Before going to the aquarium, I looked up a nearby place to have lunch and found Hokkyokusei located in Tempozan Market Place. It had been a while since I last visited, so I decided to go there again. The menu is quite simple, with omelette rice being the main focus. I decided to go for the one with a side of hamburger as I was feeling a bit greedy. You can choose between chicken and beef for the omelette rice filling. It was a very traditional omelette rice dish, but the sauce was delicious - not too thick, just the right flavor. The only downside was the hamburger, which didn't suit my taste. I thought I should have just ordered the omelette rice alone, but it came with a side salad, so I guess it's okay.

It's been a while since we visited the Kaiyukan aquarium. We bought tickets in advance and before entering, my son wanted to have omurice. So, we went to Hokusei.
- Order details
- Beef cutlet omurice 1,900 yen
* Large size +300 yen
- Hamburger set 1,580 yen
- Taisho-style omurice 1,580 yen
The omurice here has a moist texture, not dry, with a slightly runny egg finish. All three types we ordered this time were consistently delicious. The base portion is on the smaller side, so I recommend upgrading to the large size for men for an additional 300 yen. There are various types of omurice to choose from, and my son was delighted. It's a perfect place for kids who love omurice. Thank you for the meal!

I wanted to have a light meal, so I decided to come to Tempozan, which I haven't been to in a while. I usually go to the shop in Kitahorie, but it has been closed recently when I tried to go, so I ate here instead. Although the menu is limited, the quality is consistent and I enjoyed my meal. However, I feel that the taste, temperature, and presentation were better at the Kitahorie shop...

Hello~! I'm Yuzu from Okayama, the sunny land ( ´ ▽ ` )ノ I'm in tourist mode~♪♪ On my 2020 New Year's tour in Osaka, I took my 4-year-old little one to the Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan and had lunch at a nearby restaurant called "Hokusei Tempozan Store". The restaurant is located inside a large commercial facility next to the aquarium, in an area called "Naniwa Kuishinbo Yokocho". The lady outside the restaurant was energetically calling out to passersby. The ordering system was a bit strange, and they require each person to order at least one item. Even though my child is a light eater and usually shares with me, we had to order a separate side dish. We ended up ordering some fried chicken. The restaurant was crowded with tourists, with a mix of Japanese and foreign visitors, mostly from Asia. Our dishes arrived shortly after ordering. The Pork Cutlet Curry Omelette Rice was fluffy and well-made, although the curry was slightly spicy. The portion was small with two pieces of cutlet. The Spinach and Bacon Cheese Omelette Rice had a nice mix of ingredients, but the tomato-based sauce was a bit too sweet and overpowered the dish. We also had some fried chicken as a side, which was dry since it seemed to be pre-made. The taste was decent but not worth the high price. Overall, the food was okay, but the value for money was lacking. It would have been better if they didn't require all customers to order separately, especially for families with young children. With some dissatisfaction, we left the restaurant.

On New Year's Day 2020, I started my day at the Kaiyukan aquarium in Tempozan, where I wanted to see the whale shark. There are many types of omurice, but I chose the "Taisho Omurice" which comes with my favorite shrimp fry. The yellow and red omurice on a black plate really stands out, with green peas adding a pop of color. The ketchup has a tangy taste. The inside is like a pilaf in appearance and has a soft texture. It may be different from regular omurice, but maybe that's what makes it original? The lack of saltiness in the pilaf was saved by the sweet and sour pickles. I mixed tartar sauce and ketchup for the shrimp fry, creating an Aurora sauce. Overall, it was tastier than I expected. The way the ingredients are combined in front of you makes a difference. The female waitress who served us was very polite, especially towards children. It's a recommended place for families, as they even give toys to kids!

When I visited Tenpozan Market Place for lunch, I was about to look at the menu when a typical Osaka auntie-like waitress hurriedly said, "Come in, come in!" and half-forced me into the restaurant haha. I like omurice, so it was good, but the restaurant was full of foreign tourists. The taste was delicious. It felt nostalgic.

I stopped by after visiting the aquarium. I was with a friend's child, and a lively older lady employee convinced us to come in, so we entered (laughs). Inside, it had a cafeteria-like atmosphere. It was clean but had a simple feel to it. The omurice was from a long-established branch, so the taste was excellent! The egg was smooth and the rice melted in your mouth. I recommend the ketchup sauce. The pickles as a side dish were surprising but interesting. The older lady employee recommended the fried chicken, I forgot to take a picture but it was delicious (laughs). The child was small, so we ordered a child's lunch for them, but they gave us a toy on the way out. The lady was friendly - thank you for the meal. I will stop by again when I visit the aquarium.

After taking a stroll around the Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan, we went to Tenpozan Market Place for lunch. My friend wanted to eat at "Hokkyokusei" to have omurice. It seems like you order while looking at the samples at the counter. They asked if you want cheese in it, but it's an extra charge (they don't mention if it's free or not), so if you're concerned, it might be better not to add it. The omurice was pretty average. It was a bit lukewarm. I wish I could have had it freshly made. Maybe it's because it's a busy tourist spot.

I went to the Osaka Aquarium and had lunch at Hokkyokusei in the adjacent Market Place. I think I was in my early twenties at the time. When I go to Shinsaibashi to have fun, I remember eating at Jiyuken or Hokkyokusei. When I arrived at the restaurant around 11:30, there were only a few seats available and it quickly became full. I ordered the Taisho Omurice set and Chicken Omurice. I also ordered the recommended Karaage. The Taisho Omurice had thick ham in lightly seasoned rice, and the egg was fluffy and delicious. The rice could have had a stronger flavor though. The recommended Karaage had a crispy coating and the chicken had little seasoning, which wasn't to my liking even when I squeezed lemon over it. It has been 25 years since then, so my tastes may have changed. I also remembered how I used to enjoy eating based on references like Kansai Walker or guidebooks without the internet or smartphones.

I had some errands in the Tempozan area and wanted to grab a quick dinner, so I came here for the first time. I knew there were a lot of shops here, but I hadn't had the chance to visit until now. The egg was deliciously runny! However, I can't say the cost performance was great. I heard they opened a branch in Kyoto Porta, so I'd like to try it again.

☆ During a break from work, I decided to take a lunch trip to Tempozan! I heard that the famous omurice restaurant Hokkyokusei also has a branch in Tempozan (next to the Kaiyukan aquarium). I ordered the "Hamburg Omurice" for 1100 yen (excluding tax). The omurice comes with a choice of chicken or mushroom, and I chose chicken that day. Just like the main branch, the omelette was fluffy on top and slightly runny inside. The chicken rice had a good amount of chicken pieces, which I liked. The tomato sauce was tangy and delicious. Overall, I felt that the sauce could be more generous, and the flavor of the chicken rice could be stronger. Otherwise, it felt like something was missing. The "hamburger" was a bit small, but the minced meat was tasty and meaty. I wish they had poured more demi-glace sauce over it. The "salad" was a standard size with a typical dressing. In general, I found the prices to be a bit high, perhaps because it's a tourist area. However, similar to the main branch in America-mura, the prices seemed reasonable given the location. Despite the cost, I was able to enjoy the authentic taste of Hokkyokusei, so I'm satisfied.

I went to an event at the Kaiyukan aquarium today, so I took the Shinkansen to Osaka. From Shin-Osaka station, I transferred to the Osaka subway to get to Kaiyukan. Before the event, I had lunch at the Kuishinbo Yokocho. The area around this alley has a retro Showa-era atmosphere. There were various food and drink shops lined up, and I had a hard time deciding where to eat, but I settled on an omurice restaurant based on the ambiance.
The restaurant was called Hokusei and seemed to be famous for its omurice. They had a variety of omurice menu options. This time, I chose a classic menu item. Before the omurice arrived, they served a consomme soup. Shortly after, the omurice was served.
Chicken Omurice: It's been a while since I've had omurice. The egg was fluffy, and the inside was just right - not too dry. It was delicious and I enjoyed it.

It seems to be the origin of omurice. After enjoying the aquarium for a long time, we managed to slip in for the last order at 7:45. We ordered the recommended "spinach and bacon omurice" and it was delicious. The restaurant closes at 8:15.

The customer service was very energetic, immediately recommending dishes as soon as we sat down. It was an aggressive restaurant. The taste was average, so I would give it 50 points out of 100.
