Matsuya is offering a revival menu called "Heisei Retro Revival Menu," and one of the items is the Chicken Set Meal, which many people may not be familiar with. It turns out that this menu dates back to when Matsuya had only about 80 stores. Not many people may know about this nostalgic menu, right? It might be a good idea to try it now, as it may not appear again for another 30 years. I visited Matsuya in Oguni Town. Matsuya is a restaurant where you can have unlimited rice, which is very convenient. However, there are some Matsuya locations where rice refills are not free, so it's important to check beforehand. In Oguni Town, rice refills are free. The Chicken Set Meal comes in options of 3 pieces or 4 pieces. Being mindful of my wallet, I naturally chose the Chicken Set Meal with 3 pieces for 680 yen. I opted for the extra-large rice portion. I waited at the counter seats until my order number was called. When my number was called, I went to pick up my meal. The set meal includes 3 pieces of chicken and a salad. First, let's finish off the salad Pochi style. Sprinkle shichimi and pickled ginger on the salad, then drizzle ponzu sauce and enjoy. Now, let's dig into the chicken. The chicken pieces are thin and round in shape, which is unusual. I've never seen chicken like this before. It's similar to the round and thin beef tongue served at yakiniku restaurants, but I wonder if they use the same technique to make it? Now, is this chicken made from thigh meat or breast meat? It's the eternal thigh vs. breast meat dilemma. I took a bite of the thin chicken as it is. Phew, it's thigh meat. It's very garlicky. The chicken is seasoned with garlic soy sauce. This is dangerous. It makes you want to eat more rice. I nibbled on the chicken, ate as much rice as I wanted, and seasoned it in my mouth as I ate. I finished the extra-large rice portion with 2 pieces of chicken. At this rate, the regular portion would be light. So, I decided to get a refill of regular rice. I ate the rice thoroughly. The Heisei Retro Revival Menu's 3rd installment, the "Chicken Set Meal," will be released on June 13, 2023. The "Chicken Set Meal," which is the last in the 3-week series of "nostalgic menu items," features chicken that is thinly sliced for easy eating and paired with a garlic soy sauce that complements the dish. The taste that becomes addictive in one bite. Matsuya will release the "Chicken Set Meal" starting from 10 a.m. on June 13, 2023. The "Chicken Set Meal," which was sold in less than 80 stores at the time and was considered a rumored product even among long-time Matsuya fans, is making a comeback after more than 40 years. You can choose between 3 pieces or 4 pieces of meat, and there are also combo set meals with authentic mapo tofu with Mt. Fuji tofu or demi-glace sauce hamburger. The taste that was loved by many is now available to even more people.
