The mama of a certain shop had never eaten tebasaki (chicken wings), so she decided to visit Furai-bo in Daikokucho. However, when she arrived, she found out that the last order had already been taken. Furai-bo is a shop that operates from 17:00 to 24:00, so it remains unvisited for now. Across the road, there is the somewhat suspicious Futaba Building, housing "Reimenkan" and "Jidori-tei" on the first floor. In the past, this building was quite something - with a rental room reception at the back of the first floor and a free adult entertainment information center on the second floor. It's not hard to guess what kind of place this was, right? Even after the clean-up campaign in Daikokucho, this building persistently housed illegal establishments. The two shops on the first floor remained closed for years until "Reimenkan" and "Jidori-tei" moved in, making the building seem more wholesome now.
Now, back to the otaku-like topic, the franchise headquarters of Jidori-tei is Resonance Dining Co., Ltd. The predecessor of Resonance Dining was Style Co., Ltd. in Minami Horie. If you look up Style Co., Ltd., you'll find various interesting names like "Yoru no Teio" (Night Emperor), "Hills-zoku" (Hills Tribe), and "Geinokai" (Entertainment World) - but let's keep the details under wraps and return to the Jidori-tei review. This yakitori shop serves its dishes on a hot plate rather than skewers. I started with a bottle of beer and ordered the "Special Seseri Yaki" for 780 yen, "Kawa Yaki" for 480 yen, and a few other items. There was also the option of ordering a half portion of Seseri for 480 yen and Kawa for 280 yen, but I went for the regular sizes for a better deal. The Seseri was delicious, but I've had better elsewhere, so it didn't impress me much. The chicken skin had a great texture and slowly released its umami flavors in the mouth. It had a chewy texture with a moderate amount of fat, unlike the usual fatty dishes. Ah! After trying the chicken skin here, I don't think I can eat the skin from other yakitori shops in Daikokucho. The chicken karaage had a chewy texture but lacked juiciness - it was just average. The other dishes were also average, but the "Special Cucumber Pickles" for 580 yen were delicious. Note that the regular size was almost sold out, so I opted for the half size for 380 yen. An interesting point was that when I ordered a chu-hi, they allowed me to add syrup as much as I wanted (laughs). I ended up emptying the bottle by adding syrup to the shochu water on my own. The staff were friendly, and I loved the chicken skin, so I plan to revisit this place soon. I'll definitely be back at this shop in Daikokucho. Thank you for the meal.
