I had seafood bowl for the first time in Otaru and I was very satisfied. Considering the price, it was a very satisfying lunchtime in Otaru. It was cheaper and tastier than other places, and it became a restaurant I would like to visit again when I come to Otaru.

I went for a walk and wasn't very hungry yet, but it was almost noon. The restaurants were starting to get crowded, so I decided to go into this one. The limited edition rice bowl was already sold out, so I got the crab and salmon roe rice bowl with sea urchin topping. I also had a Otaru beer. It was just perfect! The crab was sweet and moist, and the sea urchin was so flavorful since it was caught nearby. I felt so happy!

I visited during lunchtime on a regular day. The restaurant was filled with foreign languages, and it seemed like there were only tourists from overseas. I was happy to be able to use a large table even though I was dining alone. I ate quickly so as not to waste their hospitality. I ordered the reasonably priced limited quantity bowl for 1300 yen. It was served promptly without much of a wait. I was satisfied with the deliciousness that exceeded the price. The portion was smaller than it looked in the photo, so I found it a bit lacking in quantity. However, since there are many other things I want to try in Otaru, maybe this amount was just right. I added fresh sea urchin for 550 yen, but it had a slight bitterness, so I think it would have been better not to add it. If you are looking for sea urchin, there are other shops (not restaurants, but shops selling seafood) where you can get a set meal with a whole pack, so you might be more satisfied eating there.

Yesterday, on the way back from Lake Toya, I visited Otaru! When you think of Otaru, you think of seafood bowls. It's been a while since I had a seafood bowl. Otaru was crowded with tourists, and all the restaurants were busy. Especially the Sankaku Market near the station was so crowded that I couldn't get in, haha. I decided to go to a restaurant called Ezo-ya in the tourist area. I ordered the Omasake Don with extra sea urchin! The bowl was filled with plenty of rice topped with salmon roe, scallops, salmon, tuna, squid, minced tuna, and flying fish roe. The miso soup also had a rich seafood flavor and was delicious! If I had to ask for more, I would want more sea urchin and salmon roe, haha. Thank you for the meal! Seafood bowls are the best in Hokkaido!

I couldn't eat at the sushi restaurant I originally wanted because it was full. Since I was in Sakaimachi and didn't feel like going back to the station, I decided to look around in Sakaimachi and chose Ezo-ya. Since the uni bowl wasn't the main dish, I ordered a seafood bowl of my choice. It was delicious! As expected of Otaru.

Three high school friends visited and chose a slightly smaller seafood bowl than usual. Despite the size, it was still quite filling. The owner seemed to have a love for Otaru and wanted us to try various dishes in other places as well.

I visited a shop in the back of Otaru at night. It was not crowded because it was in an inconspicuous location. It was great that they were open at night when many other shops only open in the morning. The appeal of this place is that you can customize your own ingredients. I chose sweet shrimp, tuna, negitoro, crab, and salmon roe. All the seafood was fresh and delicious. I was happy with the generous amount of toppings.

It's a stroll in Otaru \( ˙꒳˙ )/ I happened to pass by a sign advertising a 700 yen seafood bowl!! I started with sweets, but I was craving something savory. Since no customers were inside, I took a chance and decided to try it for 700 yen. It was around 3 pm, so there weren't many people coming in for a meal (lol). They said it was limited to 30 servings, but they still had some left, so I ordered. It was my first time here, and the menu was extensive! You could customize your own seafood bowl with your favorite toppings, including tempura and eel. The bowl was small, but packed with toppings!! Salmon, scallops, squid, tamago, tobiko, ikura, and negitoro. The salmon was long and delicious, with a nice oiliness. The squid was lightly seared and tender (*´ `*) This is not a 700 yen quality dish!! The rice was just right, and even though it was a small bowl, I was full. It's a great deal to get this seafood bowl at this price!! The staff mentioned that they appreciate any customers who come, as the lack of tourists has affected their business. I hope the town will soon be bustling with people like it used to be. I love Otaru, and I wish for its revival. Thank you for the meal!!

It was a random restaurant I stumbled upon, but I was happy to see that they had a customizable bowl where you can choose your own toppings! I'm not a fan of salmon, so I opted for the option where you can choose 5 toppings. I selected scallops, crab, tuna, sweet shrimp, and salmon roe. It's great to be able to eat the toppings you want on a seafood bowl! In colder weather, hot pot would be nice too! I wish I could have tried octopus as well! I ended up spending less than I had planned on a delicious seafood bowl. Both the tuna and scallops were delicious, so I left very satisfied! Thank you for the meal!
It is much more affordable than the Triangle Market.

I really wanted to go to this place because I heard they serve hot pot from one person serving. The second place I chose was here! When I entered, there was no one there? A staff member came from the back and greeted me warmly, saying "It must have been cold, right?" I ordered the oyster hot pot and local beer! The oysters were plump and the broth had a strong oyster flavor! You can also add ramen or udon noodles to it! I was so full that I didn't add any noodles, haha. Since there were few people, I was able to eat in a calm atmosphere, so the atmosphere of the restaurant was very nice! I wanted to try the seafood bowl as well, but... I'll try it next time! I think it's perfect for the cold weather in Otaru.

Today, I will introduce the Otaru training topic. The training itself had some minor accidents, but it was mostly two days of enjoying Otaru. Otaru had a surprising amount of snow. For our first lunch in Otaru, we visited "Otaru Ezo-ya" as planned. This restaurant was featured in magazines like Jalan, and we were looking forward to visiting it. The interior of the restaurant was cozy. We decided to try the special dish "Shako Dewaiwai Donburi" priced at 2,160 yen, which was limited to 30 servings per day. The dish was luxurious with various seafood toppings like sea urchin, salmon, scallops, and crab. It was delicious, although I personally prefer shrimp over shako. The crab miso soup that came with the meal was also delicious. Overall, our first lunch in Otaru was very satisfying.

I became convinced that I prefer the local seafood bowl in Numazu over the Hokkaido seafood bowl and started to shift towards eating more meat. At that time, I suddenly had a strong craving for sukiyaki. However, being a tourist area, it was hard to find, and I was about to give up when I stumbled upon this restaurant! This place offers a wide variety of options. The taste is simply delicious. I wasn't expecting much from the sashimi, but it was still good. It was disappointing to be told that there was no egg with the sukiyaki, but I was just happy to be able to eat what I was craving! So, restaurants like this are definitely necessary.

I am a big fan of horsehair crab (Shako). In spring and autumn, Otaru and Ishikari are the best places to enjoy horsehair crab. I missed out on it this spring because of my busy work schedule. When I bought a travel magazine, I saw a page dedicated to horsehair crab. The luxurious horsehair crab set at Poseidon in Otaru includes a horsehair crab bowl with about 10 crabs, grilled horsehair crab, and horsehair crab miso soup for ¥2000. The Ezo Mae horsehair crab set at Ezo-ya also costs ¥2000, and with a discount from the magazine, you get an extra crab. It includes a seafood bowl with 4 crabs, 2 horsehair crabs with crab miso, and horsehair crab miso soup. I chose Ezo-ya. The seasonal horsehair crab is delicious. It brings a smile to my face. It's also quite tasty when eaten with salmon roe. However, the squid sashimi was not that great. A "horsehair crab special" dish that was not on the menu was ordered by others who came later. It's very popular. The restaurant is not very spacious, but the friendly service from the cheerful staff was nice. The big horsehair crab in Otaru was delicious. By the way, I'm getting better at peeling horsehair crab shells.

In Otaru, when trying to eat sushi or seafood rice bowls, many restaurants are already closed by the evening and the ones that are open tend to be quite expensive for the portion size. While walking along the quiet Sakaimachi Street, I came across Ezo-ya. It wasn't particularly cheap, but there was a decent amount of customers coming in and out, so I decided to have a seafood rice bowl here. First of all, the menu was extensive with various combinations of rice bowls and seafood dishes! Feeling the urge to try a variety of things, I ordered the Ezo-ya bowl with 8 kinds of seafood. Although the amount of each ingredient was small, even in the heat of over 30 degrees, there was no impression of the freshness deteriorating. It has been over 10 years, but memories of eating a seafood rice bowl at the Hakodate Morning Market on my elementary school field trip came flooding back. While the seafood itself didn't have a particularly special taste or premium quality, I was able to enjoy the vitality of the restaurant and a happy mood. The only downside was that the water was lukewarm... I was craving cold water on such a hot day...

The other day, I took advantage of my day off and went to Otaru. When I arrived in the afternoon, I wasn't very hungry so I decided to skip the extravagant seafood bowl I had planned and ordered seafood dishes like seafood grill and sashimi. I ordered dishes like squid noodles, king crab sashimi, scallop grill, and oyster grill. The shellfish were taken out of the tank in the restaurant and grilled fresh on the spot! The first dish that came to the table was the scallop grill! It was delicious! However, it would have been even better if they had served it with butter soy sauce. Next, came the oyster grill! It was also delicious! Then, the sashimi arrived. After trying it, I felt like it was kind of underwhelming compared to the grilled dishes. The squid noodles were gooey and lacked texture. Lastly, the king crab sashimi. It was small in size and had a dry texture. Disappointing. Otaru is known for its fresh seafood, so maybe my expectations were too high. There is also a souvenir corner in the restaurant, so it's recommended for those who want to buy something after their meal.
