On the final day of the three-day trip, I visited a French restaurant called j'ai faim, recommended by an acquaintance, for lunch. They serve French cuisine that focuses on local vegetables and ingredients. It is located a 5-minute walk from Hakozaki Station, two stops away from Hakata Station on the JR Kagoshima Main Line. The restaurant has a casual bistro-like atmosphere, and the chef manages the operation single-handedly. From the reservation phone call, I was impressed by the chef's polite and warm demeanor. We opted for the Kyushu Wagyu lunch course priced at 5,500 yen, and also ordered a glass of white wine. Let's delve into the experience at j'ai faim♪ The meal started with homemade focaccia bread, which had a perfect balance of saltiness and was so delicious that we asked for seconds. The meal included: - Potato Gnocchi with Itoshima Butternut Squash Sauce - Assorted Appetizers: White Vinegar-Pickled Fish, Miso Chicken Galantine, and Kyushu Pork with New Onion Dressing - Simmered Conger Eel with Genmai Shiitake Mushroom Risotto - Meidai Fish Steamed in White Wine with Kama Deer Consommé - Miyazaki Beef Roast with Madeira Sauce, Red Sweet Potato, and David's Star - Yamagata Golden Peach with Itoshima Red Perilla Sorbet and White Wine Spice Jelly - Cheese Terrine with Coffee Each dish was meticulously prepared, and the classic dishes were well-balanced. The seasoning was relatively bold, especially in the fish dish with consommé. The main dish of Miyazaki beef was juicy and flavorful, with the Madeira sauce complementing the richness of the meat. The dessert of golden peach with sorbet and spice jelly was a refreshing end to the meal. The cheese terrine paired perfectly with coffee. Overall, my first visit to j'ai faim was a delightful experience, with each dish showing attention to detail and a solid culinary execution.

Reservations are required as walk-ins are not accepted (this has been verified multiple times). Therefore, the evaluation is stricter than usual. The course this time costs 2,500 yen and includes new onion soup, squid salad, roasted anglerfish, and a choice of either roasted kinako pork (with an option to add Australian beef fillet for an additional 800 yen), Tahitian vanilla bean pudding, and coffee or tea. Overall, the course highlights the deliciousness of the ingredients. The roasted anglerfish came with sautéed liver, which I recommend eating with the daikon and ancient rice. I chose the beef fillet, but I preferred the roasted kinako pork, especially the mustard used in it. The portion size was just right, and the taste was good, but it was not very memorable. There may have been a personal bias, but I felt satisfied after experiencing it once.

I searched for a French restaurant in Higashi-ku, Fukuoka City and visited for the first time (^з^)-☆ I made a reservation by phone on the day of my visit. It was lunchtime on a weekday. The table seats were all full. The atmosphere inside the restaurant was casual, and when I visited, the chef was managing everything alone. The service was quick, so I didn't have to wait long. The lunch course included grilled eggplant cold soup, bread, Hakata Jidori ballotine, sautéed horse mackerel, grilled pork with soybean flour, dessert, and coffee (2500 yen cash only). The grilled pork with soybean flour was delicious with a good amount of fat. In French lunches, pork is often served, but the soybean flour pork here was excellent. The vegetables and bread also had a delicious taste that showed attention to detail. The sautéed horse mackerel had corn risotto underneath, which was so good that I would want to eat it as a standalone dish! The course dessert was cheesecake, but when I asked the chef if I could have sorbet instead, he kindly made a dessert with sorbet on top of compote. The dessert had a perfect balance of sweetness and acidity, which I liked. There were many pig motifs inside the restaurant, so I felt like I had to eat pork, which turned out to be the right decision (laughs).

I visited this restaurant because I was interested in it after hearing about it from someone who had been there before. I wanted to try the daily lunch menu based on reviews, but it seemed that reservations were only available for the 2500 yen course. The menu included new onion soup, ear octopus risotto, roasted pork, dessert, bread, and coffee. Unfortunately, the air conditioning was too strong, making it quite cold inside.

At the French restaurant Jai faim in Hakozaki, I wonder how to pronounce this name and what it means... Despite its tricky name, the satisfaction level is off the charts! When you think of French cuisine, you may imagine high prices and a formal atmosphere, but this place has a casual vibe and is easy to enter. The menu offers two lunch courses: one for 1000 yen and one for 2500 yen. Isn't it amazing to be able to eat French cuisine for 1000 yen! I was curious about what kind of dishes I could try, so I decided to visit this time.
The dishes are served in a course format, allowing you to enjoy French cuisine in a traditional way. Today's lunch menu looked like this:
- Cauliflower Potage
- Salad with Spear Squid
- Fish Mousse and White Stone Lotus Root Wrap Bake
You can upgrade to grilled fish or meat for an additional charge as the main course. I also added coffee and dessert after the meal.
In one word, the food was delicious! I expected mediocre French-style dishes for 1000 yen, but the flavors were unexpectedly authentic. Especially the baked wrap was exquisite, juicier than I had imagined! The bread served with the potage was also amazing - crispy from the high-temperature oven, lightly salted around the edges. I couldn't resist having seconds of the bread because it was so delicious.
Finally, dessert and coffee were served, but I asked to change the dessert. The original dessert was chocolate mousse, which I'm not a fan of, but I wanted to try the dessert from a place that serves such delicious food. I changed it to Basque cheesecake from the 2500 yen course for an additional 400 yen. It was totally worth it! The dessert and coffee were both delicious, and I was glad I made the change.
I think it's great to be able to enjoy such high-quality food at this price. I definitely want to come back again. I realized that savoring carefully prepared dishes slowly brings more satisfaction than just eating a large quantity of food. I didn't understand the appeal of French cuisine before, but today I finally got it. It's like feeling happy while eating! I felt happy eating the food~
They also offer course meals starting from 3000 yen for dinner, so I definitely want to come back for dinner next time.

I made a reservation and had the evening course. The fresh vegetables were from Itoshima, and the fish was also very fresh and delicious. Unfortunately, I forgot to take a picture of the risotto! The risotto was cooked al dente and I couldn't help but say it was delicious. I want to eat it again. It seems like it will become an addictive gourmet. The crème brûlée with caramelized topping was exquisite. The cute fig and custard matched well. I want to go back again. It's that kind of restaurant.

I used it for lunch. The ingredients and seasoning were excellent. I had made a reservation, so even though it was lunch, I was able to have a course meal. I appreciated the flexible response. The main dish was deer steak, and the combination with the sauce was exquisite. I would like to go again!

The lunch here has amazing cost performance. The bright and clean interior, along with delicious soup and everything else, is just fantastic. If it were closer, I would want to come here for lunch as a treat whenever I can.

I went to a French restaurant called J’aiFaim near Kyushu University on Hakozaki's bus street for lunch, which I had been curious about for a while. The lunch options are a 1000 yen course and a 2500 yen course. Even the 1000 yen course comes with a proper meat main dish, so it feels like a good deal. I chose the 2500 yen course with fish and meat.
1st course: Cold corn soup - The sweetness of the corn was subtle, and the taste of the milk was well balanced.
2nd course: Amberjack carpaccio (or rather marinated) salad - The dressing was delicious, and the fish was of high quality.
3rd course: Beltfish meunière - Technically oven-baked, but the bones are removed leaving only the fillet. The texture was tender, reminiscent of the tenderness of the meunière I had at a cafe in Paris. The sauce, which included a hint of shellfish, was excellent. The side dish was Hana Hiratake mushrooms, which had a crunchy texture.
4th course: Roasted pork with soybean flour - The pork had a sweet taste and juicy texture, and the vegetables were well-prepared, making it highly satisfying. The sauce was a black olive tapenade and herb sauce.
Dessert: Mango crème brûlée - The rich sweetness and aroma of the mango were interesting.
The 1000 yen lunch also includes soup, salad, main dish, and dessert, making it quite a good deal. For dinner, there are courses priced at 3800 yen and 5000 yen.

At Jefan in Hakozaki, a restaurant that specializes in Itoshima vegetables, I plan to have a French course lunch. The course is reasonably priced at 2500 yen, but wait, there's also a lunch without meat for 1000 yen! And it comes with soup too?! The restaurant is still new and clean, with spacious tables and chairs that allow for a relaxed dining experience.
First up, the soup! The burdock potage soup was incredibly delicious. The homemade bread was also a nice touch. Next, a seemingly ordinary vegetable salad revealed marinated mackerel hidden inside, which was a pleasant surprise. The main fish dish, sautéed flounder, was coated in a creamy sauce, making the white fish tender and flavorful.
The meat dish was a roast of "kinoko pork," which had almost no fat and was juicy with a clam sauce. The dessert was a refreshing summer tangerine jelly, followed by a mini coffee. At 2500 yen, it's a great deal! However, when you consider that the meat dish alone costs 1200 yen, it's actually more expensive than the 1000 yen lunch which includes soup, salad, fish dish, and bread.
Despite the confusion in pricing, the fresh ingredients, careful preparation, and friendly atmosphere make this French restaurant highly recommended. Next time, I might opt for the 1000 yen lunch and use the remaining 1500 yen to enjoy pancakes and coffee for a more satisfying and cost-effective meal. Thank you for the delicious meal!
