I wanted to eat Suffolk lamb that I missed out on the previous day, so I visited this place that serves Suffolk lamb from Shibetsu. My partner really wanted to eat it, so we decided to try both the Shibetsu and Australian versions. As expected, the Shibetsu lamb was incredibly tender. I couldn't really detect any strong smell, but the Australian lamb was tougher. The price is a bit high at 2,750 yen, but it's worth it. Plus, we saw the Suffolk lamb at the ranch beforehand, so that was a nice experience. Overall, it was a delicious meal!

The menu is divided between locally produced Suffolk lamb and imported meat. I assumed it would be Suffolk lamb since I came all the way here. However, when it was served, it was unexpectedly frozen. They didn't mention it was raw lamb, but I thought it would be raw lamb considering the location. I wish they had informed us. If this is the case, I might as well go to a restaurant in Sapporo that specializes in raw lamb.

The Genghis Khan lamb dish in Suffolk is tender. The potato mochi is interesting too, with a potato flavor. Well, that's obvious.

During a tour in Hokkaido, I discovered a restaurant that caught my eye in the Nayoro and Shibetsu area while passing through at lunchtime. I made a reservation in advance and visited the restaurant. The restaurant is located within the facility called "Sheep and Cloud Hill," with two adjacent restaurants, "Shepherd's House" and "Barbecue House." This time, I opted for the Barbecue House. As the name suggests, there is a vast sheep pasture in front of the restaurant, offering a beautiful view that truly captures the essence of being in Hokkaido. The interior of the Barbecue House is simple, with tables lined up in two rows with a teppanyaki grill in the middle. The menu at the Barbecue House offers only one main dish: Genghis Khan (grilled lamb) 150g for 900 yen, along with some vegetables. When I called to make a reservation, I was informed that they use New Zealand Suffolk lamb for the regular Genghis Khan. However, I really wanted to try the Shibetsu-produced Suffolk lamb Genghis Khan mentioned in the Michelin guide. When I expressed this wish during the reservation, they agreed to serve me the Shibetsu-produced Genghis Khan at the Barbecue House. The Shibetsu-produced Suffolk lamb Genghis Khan costs 1,500 yen per serving. Although I didn't directly compare it to the New Zealand lamb, the Shibetsu-produced lamb was incredibly tender. Despite having a subtle lamb flavor, it was mild enough for those who are not fond of lamb or are not accustomed to it. The lamb remained tender even when cooked to the brink of being burnt, making it quite delicious. The sweet marinade added a nice touch to the meat. While it may be slightly more expensive than the regular menu option, I believe it's worth trying the Shibetsu-produced lamb if you've come this far. In conclusion, although I don't have an aversion to lamb, I thoroughly enjoyed the Shibetsu-produced Genghis Khan.

After soaking in the hot springs in Tomamae-cho along the coast, we drove for over an hour to Shihoro City to eat Genghis Khan. When it comes to eating meat in Hokkaido, Shihoro Genghis Khan is the best choice! Hokkaido's Genghis Khan is divided into seasoned varieties in Sapporo and northward, and raw lamb is the main dish from Sapporo to the south. Matsuo, Naganuma, and Sato's Genghis Khan are particularly famous. Recently, you can eat raw lamb Genghis Khan almost anywhere, but here in northern Hokkaido, it's mostly seasoned. While it's nice to enjoy Genghis Khan in an elegant restaurant, personally, I think the real charm of Genghis Khan is being able to barbecue and cook it yourself outside with friends. This barbecue house allows you to do just that, and since most customers head to the neighboring "Shepherd's House," it's relatively empty. Even in winter, it's not too cold inside, allowing you to enjoy Genghis Khan. This has become my favorite spot now. Every year, I come to Shihoro City to eat Genghis Khan here. The meat is Suffolk, marinated in a unique sweet sauce that tastes like various fruits and vegetables. This sauce is a bit different from other seasoned Genghis Khan sauces. It's like Shihoro's original. If you're bothered by the visible tendons in the meat, go to the neighboring "Shepherd's House." The meat portion is quite generous even for one person. The vegetable platter is essential for iron plate Genghis Khan, with bean sprouts, onions, and bell peppers cut into strips of the same thickness as the bean sprouts, making it easy for the sauce to soak in. Once the iron plate is heated, start by arranging the vegetables in a donut shape... then place the meat in the center and pour all the sauce over the vegetables. Hokkaido's Genghis Khan is best enjoyed this way! The vegetables soaked in the sauce, along with the meat, are a delight to savor! The meat is tender thanks to the sauce, and the flavor of this sauce is incredibly delicious! I prefer it over Matsujin and Naganuma! Rice is a must for seasoned Genghis Khan. A serving of rice comes in a bowl piled high! And all for just 200 yen, what a great deal! It was so delicious, and we had our fill of meat and vegetables, adding more as we went along. We left feeling full and completely satisfied! Can't wait to come back! Thank you for the delicious meal!
