Happy New Year. I visited the construction site of "Escon Field" in Kitahiroshima City, Hokkaido, which will be the home of the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters from 2023. I have fond memories of the Sapporo Dome, where I used to enjoy local barbecue at the "Western" restaurant after losing games until late at night. Although I am not a Nippon-Ham Fighters fan, I look forward to visiting the new stadium someday. The Sapporo Dome has been a place of many memories for me, including a game where Yu Darvish pitched a one-hit shutout loss, sitting in the Diamond seats and seeing the players as tiny dots, and a victory in the Climax Series with Shohei Ohtani as the starting pitcher. The Sapporo Dome will continue to thrive as the home of the J-League Consadole Sapporo and as a concert venue. The economic impact of the new stadium relocation is estimated to be around 163.6 billion yen in the first year and approximately 678.8 billion yen over the next 10 years. The Escon Field will feature hot springs, sauna facilities, accommodation, craft beer brewery, and restaurants. Surrounding the stadium, there will be condominiums, parking lots, a children's daycare center, agricultural learning facilities, a kids' area, glamping, villas, and even a new JR station. This new development is expected to bring significant economic benefits to the area. Moving away from Escon Field, I visited a conveyor belt sushi restaurant near the Kitahiroshima City Hall called SM Coop Sapporo Kitahiroshima store. Although I am unfamiliar with this particular chain, I discovered that they also have a restaurant in Nayoro City. While many conveyor belt sushi chains now offer sushi that does not rotate on lanes, this restaurant still features rotating plates, which I find enjoyable. The variety of sushi, including three types of tuna, salmon, silver salmon, Hokkaido-shime saba, large shrimp, steamed Hiroshima oysters, enagawa with Yama wasabi, horse mackerel, and snow crab with crab miso, was impressive. The quality and quantity of the sushi were on par with popular gourmet conveyor belt sushi chains in Hokkaido. The prices were a bit high, but considering the high cost of living, it seemed reasonable. The staff's energy and attentiveness were excellent, creating a pleasant dining experience. The soft-serve ice cream ranking displayed on the wall was fascinating, with a wide variety of flavors. Overall, it was a delightful dining experience.
