I wandered around Hakodate Asaichi market and ended up buying 2 snow crabs, 1 fatty halibut, and saltwater sea urchin from Araki Shoten for 20,300 yen. I also bought dried scallops and squid rice from another store for 2,200 yen. I've been spending money like crazy since yesterday haha. I bought crab and sea urchin, so seafood is good, right? I also want to buy some snacks and I really want some melon. I'm going on a tour to Sapporo, Otaru, and Furano later, so I need to calm down. I was looking for something to eat to calm my feelings, and I stumbled upon Ajino Ichiban! It was supposed to be a famous restaurant. It was around 9:45 am, and there were only about 4 groups of customers. The husband and wife who run the place seated me at the counter. The husband was right in front of me, draining the boiled noodles. After waiting for over 20 minutes, the set meal arrived. It was quite a generous portion. It came with rice, a mysterious clam miso soup, sweet and spicy simmered squid, cabbage salad, pickled daikon radish, and squid sashimi. It also came with sweet soy sauce and regular soy sauce. I couldn't see it hiding, but there was also squid innards, I think. The miso soup was on the rich side, which was nice. I've had it at other places a few times, but it's usually on the lighter side to bring out the flavor. It also had a clam flavor, but I'm not sure what kind of clam it was. The sweet and spicy simmered squid was something I often eat at izakayas, and it goes well with alcohol. Luckily, I had ordered a beer in the morning. The cabbage salad was almost tasteless, with bonito flakes sprinkled on top. It seemed like a refreshing palate cleanser. The rice was a large portion. I was planning to eat more later, so it was a bit inconvenient haha. And finally, the squid sashimi. It was delicious, as expected of a specialty dish. As I mentioned in my review of Kaikofun, it had a firm texture, almost like cold agar. When you eat it in the Kanto region, it's more slimy, but here it was more refreshing. The flavor was better at Kaikofun, with a richer and creamier texture, but here you get a larger portion and the quality is not that different, so it's better value for money. It cost 1,900 yen in total. I paid with PayPay. It was satisfying in terms of value for money. You can thoroughly enjoy the squid in various ways. I regret not being able to try the ramen. It's a well-known restaurant that is often recommended by celebrities. - Draft beer 550 yen - Squid sashimi set meal 1,350 yen

I enjoyed a gentle chicken broth soy sauce ramen. I had it in the morning when the train was out of service, and it has a calming taste. The chashu pork slices are lean but juicy, not dry at all. I was surprised to see a boiled egg sliced in the ramen for the first time.

In the morning in Hakodate, I woke up early to make it to the morning market. I came from Yunokawa and went straight to the shop in front of Hakodate Station. I sat at a table and looked at the menu. I ordered the classic three-color bowl with sea urchin, salmon roe, and crab. It cost 2500 yen including tax. The miso soup with scallops was rich and really woke up my sleepy body. I enjoyed it with a sweet soy sauce and kelp broth. My companion ordered the special live squid set, which also looked delicious. The weather was nice, and it was a happy moment to spend a delightful morning.

It was a breakfast partner restaurant of the accommodation hotel. Since I had a hamburger the day before, I wanted something light, and I decided to come here to enjoy both the Hakodate gourmet salt ramen and seafood bowl at the same time. Personally, I'm not used to eating salt ramen much, so my impression was like, "Is this it?" The seafood bowl was a good size and the squid was incredibly sweet and delicious. Among the many seafood bowl shops, it's nice to be able to have ramen for breakfast.

Visit date March 11, 2022, Friday around 9:00 AM. Located across from Donburi Yokocho in the Hakodate Morning Market. It is a popular long-established seafood restaurant known for its ramen and seafood bowls. I had visited the shop recently but they were out of squid, so I decided to come back for a rematch. I had taken the shop's business card, so I called early in the morning to confirm and was relieved to hear that squid had arrived. For those who want to try squid sashimi, it's a good idea to confirm just in case. The interior of the shop has counter seats, table seats, and is surprisingly spacious, with autographs of famous entertainers lining the walls. The atmosphere is calm, and both the master and the mistress remembered my face, which made me happy. The menu is extensive and it can be overwhelming to choose from. Some of the menu items include Morning Market Ramen (with hair crab and scallops), Seafood Ramen, Ramen and Squid Rice Set, Ramen and Salmon Roe Bowl Set, Homemade Salmon Roe Bowl, Fresh Sea Urchin and Salmon Roe Bowl, Squid Sashimi Set, Cod Set Meal, and Curry Rice. I have listed only a few menu items, but there are many options to choose from, and you can even drink in the morning. Squid Sashimi Set (¥1350) The long-awaited live squid that I wanted to eat the most in Hakodate. The mistress brought me a tray and asked, "Are you okay with shrimp, big brother?" I was surprised to see the contents of the tray, which included still-moving shrimp and miso soup with baby clams. - Simmered squid legs - Boiled white cabbage - Yellow pickled radish The contents of the small dishes were fantastic. ('∇') The freshly caught squid was carefully prepared, and it is enjoyed with a sweet kombu soy sauce and ginger. The transparent squid has a firm and elastic texture with a slight sweetness. When eaten on top of hot rice, it is incredibly delicious. Although the squid ink sashimi was not included this time, I was completely satisfied with this luxurious breakfast. Summary There are many eateries in the Hakodate Morning Market where you can eat from early in the morning, making it difficult to decide where to eat. At Aji no Ichiban, you can enjoy ramen and seafood bowls together, and the quality of the set meals was superb for the price. I was drinking sake on the train, so I was looking for a place to eat. I found this place open, and the owners were very soothing. I felt a strong Showa era atmosphere while enjoying the variety of chuhai drinks available, with or without lemon. The menu had a wide variety of dishes and sets, making it hard to decide. I thought the "Salt Ramen and Squid Rice" set would be a safe choice. The ramen had a lot of oil on top, but it was smooth and had a gentle dashi flavor with a hint of saltiness. The straight noodles were soft with a good chew, and the chashu, crunchy menma, and sliced boiled egg were nice additions. The squid rice was made with pre-cooked ingredients, and it was better to eat it there than to take it back to Hakodate. The famous company's version had a chewy texture and a firm squid meat with a sweet and salty flavor that went well with the salt soup. When I asked my Jimoji friends, they teased me saying, "This place is all about ramen and squid sashimi alone!" haha.

On the last morning in Hakodate, I wanted to have breakfast at the morning market before catching the bus to the airport. I decided to try the salmon and salmon roe bowl instead of the neighboring shop I visited last time. I chose a mini salmon and salmon roe bowl, which turned out to be a great choice as the rice portion was huge. The scallop miso soup was delicious, and the dish also included homemade salmon roe and fresh salmon. I was very satisfied with the meal. The atmosphere of the restaurant was great, with locals coming in and out, giving it a local diner feel. I definitely want to come back here.

After enjoying a seafood bowl, I had a limited time to try Hakodate ramen, the first in Hokkaido. It had a gentle salt flavor with asparagus, potatoes, and corn, giving it a Hokkaido-like appearance. At first, it seemed a bit light, but as I continued eating, the salt flavor gradually seeped in. It was a satisfying meal! Thank you for the delicious meal!

Visited for the first time on August 25, 2019, at "Kikuyo Shokudo" for my 107th meal. After eating there, I was walking back to the hotel when I unexpectedly came across a ramen shop open in the morning. Being in a touristy mood and having consumed alcohol since the morning, I entered the shop as a complete novice. "Hakodate Asaichi Ajino Ichiban" is a spacious restaurant with only one other customer, giving off a quiet atmosphere. It seems like a shop that serves seafood ramen and seafood bowls typical of tourist spots. I chose the salt ramen for 700 yen. Of course, I also had a beer. The service was normal, nothing out of the ordinary. The beer arrived, served in a chilled mug. It was delicious, as expected! The ramen arrived next. It looked quite ordinary. I took a sip of the soup, which had a very plain taste. In other words, it tasted like store-bought soup. The noodles were not like Hakodate noodles for the second day in a row. The low hydration made them a good match for the salt soup. The boiled egg was not cut in half, but rather two round slices. The chashu was large but had a dry texture and a strong soy sauce flavor. I wasn't expecting much, so it was okay. Eating ramen at Hakodate Asaichi was the goal, so I achieved it. After eating this much, I think I'm good until lunchtime. It was delicious. Located on the Naka-dori street of Hakodate Asaichi, surrounded by many lively seafood shops. The interior of the restaurant is spacious, making it hard to count the number of seats. The walls are covered with signatures of famous people, which is interesting, but the recommended dish here is the Asaichi Ramen! It is a luxurious ramen with a whole hairy crab, squid, and other extravagant ingredients. You can also enjoy fresh ikura, uni, scallops, and more unique to the morning market. I visited around 1 pm. I ordered the salt ramen and scallop bowl with uni. The scallop bowl arrived quickly and was incredibly fresh, so I had to eat it first! The plump scallops were sweet and had an irresistible texture. The uni was sweet and flavorful, simply delicious! The miso soup with scallop roe added had an indescribable umami flavor. The dessert, Yubari melon ice cream, was exactly like melon in flavor and taste, not too sweet and very delicious. I was looking forward to the ramen. When it arrived, it had chashu, menma, nori, egg, and garnished with green onions. The soup was rich in seafood flavors, light and refreshing! The noodles were medium-thick straight noodles with a good chewiness that paired well with the soup. The chashu was a bit dry but still tasty. During my second visit, I had to have lunch at a different restaurant. I ordered two bottles of beer and only Yariika sashimi. I was pleased that they explained when there was no edible guts in the Yariika.

Breakfast. Squid sashimi set meal for 1250 yen. It comes with pickles, boiled Chinese cabbage, and scallop miso soup, making it very satisfying! Dip the crunchy squid in plenty of kelp-infused soy sauce with dissolved ginger. It was really delicious. There were many customers ordering ramen as well, as there is a wide variety of ramen options available. The restaurant opens at 7 am and is located within the morning market.

Uni (sea urchin) bowl for how much. This was the location used for filming in Hakodate in a drama I watched a long time ago (Second Virgin, starring Kyoka Suzuki). In the drama, it was introduced as the best in the world (or was it the best in Japan?), but the taste was not that great.

I went to the morning market in Hakodate for breakfast during summer vacation, so it wasn't crowded. Since they couldn't catch much squid, it was removed from the menu. However, they specially made a discounted bowl with one whole squid for only 1000 yen! I don't think I'll be able to ask for it again. It was delicious!

There aren't many places where you can eat squid rice alone in the market, right? I see a lot of seafood bowls, but not squid rice alone. I was looking for a place where I could eat squid rice alone and found a sign on the menu board at the storefront. It was around 11 a.m. on a weekday. There was only one group of customers at the table in the restaurant. There was a regular customer at the counter. It's empty even though it's lunchtime! I ordered only two servings of squid rice (tax included 550 yen) and they kindly accepted it. I'm grateful (^^) While waiting for the food to be served, I enjoyed looking at the autographs of many famous people displayed on the wall. Surprise! I found two autographs of NEWS' Koyama. That means he has visited twice. I wonder where he was sitting~? I couldn't help but feel a little starstruck (laughs) Now, after a while, the squid rice was served, which was the size of about two small squids. It looks similar to the size and color of the squid rice in the familiar vacuum pack. It is cut into 1 cm thickness and served on a plate. It is slightly warm. The squid is a bit firm. The texture might make your jaw tired. The rice inside is sticky glutinous rice. The seasoning is slightly sweet. Squid legs are also included. This is similar to the squid rice in a vacuum pack that I have seen before... but still, that's what I thought when I ate it. Nevertheless, my friend who had been saying he wanted to eat squid rice for a long time seemed satisfied. During the meal, more people, including regular customers and people related to work, visited one after another, creating a very homely atmosphere. It's full of the atmosphere of a local diner. I don't dislike this feeling, though.

I left Sapporo at 5:30 in the morning and arrived in Hakodate at 8:30. Feeling a bit hungry, I decided to have breakfast at the Hakodate Morning Market. There were a lot of foreign tourists, probably due to the positive impact of the Hokkaido Shinkansen. I chose the restaurant "Kikuyo Shokudo" which had great reviews. The menu had a wide variety of options. I ordered the Mini Three-color Bowl (1,100 yen) where you can choose three toppings from sea urchin, salmon roe, squid, and crab. I chose sea urchin, salmon roe, and squid. The dish was served in just a few minutes. The squid had a ginger soy sauce flavor which was typical of Hakodate. The salmon roe had the perfect amount of saltiness and a satisfying texture. Although sea urchin was not in season, it still had a sweet and unique umami flavor. The miso soup with scallop was also delicious with a flavorful broth. This restaurant may not be very famous among tourists, but seeing the locals (regular customers) enjoying their meals made me realize it was a hidden gem. The prices were reasonable and the food was truly delicious. Thank you for the meal!

Hakodate is my favorite restaurant! It's located inside the morning market and has a cafeteria-like atmosphere which I really like! You can enjoy ramen, set meals, and rice bowls at a reasonable price. I happened to go there by chance at first, but it has become one of my favorite places since then. Among the menu items, my favorite dishes to order are the soy sauce ramen and the homemade mini ikura bowl! The ramen has an amazing soup - the dashi and soy sauce blend perfectly and it's so delicious that I want to keep drinking it haha. The homemade ikura is also marinated in soy sauce in an excellent way! It was even featured on TV as a popular musician's favorite food to order! I usually don't pay attention to those things, but after trying it myself, I am sure it's worth it. The mini size is quite generous in portion! It might be enough for someone with a small appetite like me. Of course, for a big eater like me, it's not enough... haha. It costs 1300 yen. Ah, I want to eat it again.
