2018.12.24 Visiting Christmas Eve Operation Part 1: Going to the Hakata Market! So I went to the Yanagibashi Union Market in Hakata. However, on a holiday, after 10 AM, there were only a few shops open... That's understandable. Despite that, I looked around and managed to get some mochi for New Year's at my parents' house. Christmas Eve Operation Part 2: Going to the Hakata Shopping District! The next step was to visit two shopping districts in Hakata. One of them was the amazing Fujisaki Shopping District! So I took the subway and headed there. This Fujisaki Shopping District consists of four connected shopping districts from Fujisaki Station to Nishijin Station, and it was said to be bustling with a fun atmosphere. However, the subway I took unfortunately stopped at Nishijin. In that case, let's walk from Nishijin! As soon as I left Nishijin Station, I found a shop called "Mucchan Manju Nishijin Store." It seemed like a popular one-handed gourmet spot in Hakata, with many celebrities visiting! I couldn't resist trying it, so I chose the 3rd most popular menu item, "Tonton." Tonton is braised pork, cabbage, and mayonnaise - a dish that anyone who loves hearty food would enjoy (although I'm not a fan of mayonnaise myself, even though I love hearty food!). Mucchan Manju seems to use a "Mutsugoro" mold instead of a taiyaki mold. Taking advantage of this, they could create products like "sanma-yaki" with a sanma mold or "buri-yaki" with a buri mold... or not (*_*). I had it right there in front of the store! It might look like I couldn't wait and immediately started eating, but seeing a chubby person enjoying food in front of the store would surely make others want to eat too... or not (*_*). Well, this was delicious! The sweet sauce of the braised pork, cabbage, and mayonnaise combined well, making it a popular dish for sure. I hadn't really thought about various fillings for taiyaki batter before! For sweets, popular custard or classic red bean paste would surely be delicious, and a menu like "gorogoro" with octopus, mayonnaise, cabbage, and sauce - a mix of takoyaki and okonomiyaki - was also available. If this is the case, this one-handed gourmet concept could work anywhere, right? For example, in Nagoya... Nobunaga-yaki? Maybe it wouldn't sell... (*_*). Thank you for the meal! P.S. After that, I walked from Nishijin Shopping District, and the first Nishijin Shopping District was really lively! It was the type of shopping district I was looking for, and I was excited. But as I headed towards Fujisaki Station, it became quieter... and my only harvest was Mucchan Manju (;´д`).
