Thanks to a thoughtful gesture from the staff at Shinsaibashi Alti-In, I unexpectedly received an Osaka Welcome Coupon, which I decided to use entirely on my favorite food, crab! I had impulsively made a reservation at a restaurant, reminiscing about the days when I used to stay in Juso, a city I'm familiar with from my visits to the Sonoda Racecourse. Arriving at the restaurant at 5:30 pm on a weekday, I had planned on sitting at a regular table, but was offered a private tatami room for myself instead. I ordered a non-alcoholic Chardonnay and eagerly waited for the appetizers. The first dish, crab vinegar, was a delightful surprise! Despite being off-season, the crab meat was tender and flavorful, making me wonder if it was a different type of crab than what I usually eat. I devoured it all without even using the vinegar provided. The sashimi was sweet and smooth, and the crab sesame tofu was perfectly balanced. The silky smooth crab chawanmushi and the tempura with crab, seasonal bamboo shoots, and shishito peppers were equally delicious. The piping hot crab gratin with macaroni in a carefully prepared bechamel sauce with a tomato accent was a standout dish. Just when I started to feel full, the eagerly awaited crab kamameshi was ready. Topped with shredded crab meat, the flavors were delicate and exquisite, leaving me speechless. Despite being told it was for the ochazuke, I couldn't resist finishing most of it before realizing. The green tea poured over the vanilla ice cream was a delightful combination, and I imagined it would be a hit with foreign visitors. Although I don't usually indulge, I can't wait to treat myself to a luxurious lunch soon. Thank you for a truly enriching dining experience.

The other day, four of us went to Kani Doraku to celebrate a friend's birthday. We had a crab suki hotpot course for 7,150 yen, and added a grilled half crab for 4,070 yen. The course included crab vinegar, furofuki daikon, crab suki hotpot, crab tempura, zosui (rice porridge), pickles, and dessert. We were lucky to enjoy the crab suki hotpot this season, but it seems the prices have gone up again. It might be difficult to afford it next year. Thank you for the delicious meal!

When it comes to year-end parties, it's all about crab. Even though I love meat, I still want to eat crab. The classic choice for year-end parties is Kani Douraku. We were so engrossed in eating crab that our conversations stopped. Thank you for the feast! Kani Douraku Juusan-ten is located at 1-11-14 Juusan Honmachi, Yodogawa-ku, Osaka City, an 8-minute walk from Juusan Station. They are open from 11:30 to 22:00, closed on New Year's Day. For reservations, call 06-6302-3281. Prices range from 8000 to 12000 yen per person. Exiting the west exit of Hankyu Juso Station and walking straight through the shopping street for 3 minutes, you will see a famous sign on your right after crossing a large intersection. Upon entering the entrance, you will be greeted by a large tank filled with snow crabs. This renowned restaurant is known for its giant moving crab sign, and is considered the go-to place for crab in Osaka. The restaurant has a long history, dating back to 62 years ago when the seafood restaurant "Sengokusen" from San'in opened. It has been operating under the name "Kani Doraku" for 60 years now. In the early days of its opening until the mid-1960s, snow crabs were not considered a luxury ingredient like they are today. Due to the lack of adequate refrigeration and freezing logistics, unlike fish that could be dried or salted for preservation, snow crabs were not easily transported to Osaka except in canned form. In the fishing villages near the landing sites in San'in, large crabs were purchased by inns and wealthy farmers, while female snow crabs and smaller crabs were sold cheaply, used as snacks for children or even as fertilizer for fields. A turning point came in 1962 when Kani Doraku opened in Dotonbori, and the founder, Yoshio Imazu, devised a method to freeze crabs soaked in water. Riding the wave of the high economic growth period, crab dishes became popular in Osaka, and the tourism industry on the Japan Sea side began using crabs as a main attraction. It could be said that they were pioneers in green tourism. We enjoyed a course meal featuring their famous crab hot pot and various other dishes highlighting the deliciousness of snow crabs. The private room we were seated in had a calm, traditional Japanese atmosphere, and what stood out were the origami crabs of various sizes, from large ones to tiny ones the size of a crab claw tip, meticulously placed on the garden lanterns and stones in the room. We captured our dining experience in a video, which you can watch at around 23:11 in the following link: https://youtu.be/BLVK4u0KAOU

Today, my husband and I had a rare opportunity to have lunch together, so we decided to go to Kani Doraku for lunch. I made a reservation just in case, and I'm glad I did because it was already full when we arrived. I highly recommend making a reservation! We ordered the Kani Gozen set meal called "Ketsuka" today. I love the crab vinegar sauce - it's delicious! The chawanmushi (steamed egg custard) was also excellent. They started cooking the kamameshi (rice cooked in a small pot) for us ahead of time because it takes about 30 minutes. The gratin was just the right amount. I wish there was one more piece of crab in the tempura! We also ordered an additional dish of deep-fried crab, which was also very tasty! It cost 2200 yen as an a la carte order. The kamameshi here is so good that I would come here just for that alone. I love it so much! My husband ordered the Kani Kaiseki set meal called "Yosaki" because he loves crab sashimi. It came with a crab sashimi dish! Lastly, we had green tea ice cream for dessert, which was okay. I will definitely come back to Kani Doraku again!

After a few years, I visited Kani Doraku again. It was my first time at this location. I left it up to the chef to decide the course, so I wasn't sure what it would be, but the crab was still amazing after all this time! I couldn't resist ordering the crab cream croquette as an extra. It was definitely delicious. *Visited on a weekday at 7:00 PM with a reservation. Payment method: cash. Thank you for the meal!

"I've heard the Crab Douraku commercial song but never been there," my friend said, so we decided to go. I have been there a few times and I love their Crab Sukiyaki. We made a reservation and were seated at a table on the 1st floor. There are private tatami rooms as well, but I prefer table seating. First, we ordered my recommended Crab Sukiyaki and other a la carte dishes. [Bottle of Beer (medium) ¥630 Asahi] Cheers with a beer. [Crab Sukiyaki 2 servings ¥4,300 per person (excluding tax)] It's a hot pot made with white soy sauce broth, so you can taste the natural sweetness of the crab, which I love. The light soy sauce flavor allows the crab to taste even more delicious. The final ochazuke (extra charge) made with the overflowing umami from the broth, crab, and vegetables is absolutely fantastic. It seems like the staff usually make it, but you can make it yourself if you ask, which we did. So, we were proud of our own creation. [Crab Sashimi ¥1,800] It's so creamy and sweet. You scoop up the peeled crab meat and eat it without dipping it in anything, which doesn't boost your excitement, but peeling and eating the crab meat yourself is also enjoyable. [Kaminoyama Chardonnay (white wine) ¥3,000] We got a bottle of this Chardonnay from Kaminoyama, Yamagata. It's fruity and pairs well with crab. [Taraba Crab Karaage ¥3,300] It's coated with a "karaage flour" that overpowers the taste, which was disappointing. I would have preferred a simpler coating that allows the crab flavor to shine through. Also, the oil wasn't drained well, making it a bit soggy, which was also disappointing. [Grilled Taraba Crab ¥3,300] Taraba crab is always satisfying and has a great volume. It's sweet! You have to eat it quickly or it will become tough, so be careful. By the time we finished the final ochazuke, we were full! It's great to be able to casually enjoy delicious crab nearby. The atmosphere of the restaurant is really nice, with a clean and newly renovated space, and the restroom area was also comfortable. Thank you for the meal."

Today, I was taken to Kani Doraku by my colleagues. I'm not a big fan of crab, so I went out of curiosity for conversation. The restaurant was the Tenmangu location. I had expected a lively, casual atmosphere, but it was actually a calm and traditional setting. Even though it's summer, we had a crab hot pot course, but as my colleagues said, crab sashimi is the best! The sashimi was delicious. The broth for the hot pot was tasty, and I even received some broth to take home from my colleagues. The rice porridge at the end was also very delicious.

It was a long time since I last visited Kani Doraku. It was my first time at the Juusan branch. I went by car and was relieved to find a parking lot affiliated with the restaurant. I went with my children, and since we had a private room, we could relax comfortably, and the kids seemed to be enjoying themselves. The staff at the restaurant were kind and made the atmosphere pleasant. They also had a children's set menu, which we ordered as well. I would love to visit again if I have the chance.

Located a 5-7 minute walk from Juso Station, Kani Douraku Juso is a seafood restaurant famous for its moving crab sculpture, a symbol of Osaka. The exterior of the restaurant is impressive, but the real star is the fresh crab dishes. We ordered popular items like crab sashimi, crab tempura, and crab croquettes. The rich flavors of the fresh crab were perfectly brought out through various cooking methods, making it easy to see why this place has been popular for years. If you're visiting Osaka, be sure to stop by. Thank you for the delicious meal!

The non-alcoholic Chardonnay for 4,400 yen was also delicious. The timing of the dishes coming out was perfect, just as the previous plate was empty. The crab was so good that I forgot to take photos of many dishes.

My wife kept saying she wanted to eat at a fancy restaurant that we rarely go to, so despite it being a bit cliché, we ended up going to Kappo Hanamasa. We chose a lunch course for around 4300 yen, with small portions but satisfying, including dessert. Overall, we were very satisfied with the experience.

It is within walking distance from Hankyu Juusann station. Since winter is all about crab, I visited a casual crab specialty restaurant. They offer a variety of course menus but I wanted to eat my favorite dishes, so I chose from the a la carte menu. I had sashimi, grilled crab, crab meat and miso grilled in the shell, crab hot pot, crab tempura, and crab porridge. Although winter is a time for hot pots, I started with beer and then continued with cold sake only. I went to warm up but ended up with a different purpose haha. The service was polite and they have private rooms available.

We went to Kani Doraku for a New Year's party with my work colleagues, where the familiar large moving crab sign along the Jusanko muscle is displayed. We usually go to the Shinchi or Umeda stores, but this time we ended up here because we couldn't get a reservation. It was a quick taxi ride from Umeda, and the restaurant had a well-maintained, old-fashioned atmosphere, which left a good first impression. The young man who guided us to our reserved private room was a bit short on words, but he used polite language, which was nice. The private room was named after crab-producing areas like Takeno and Shibayama, and although the facilities were a bit old, the spacious table and relaxed atmosphere were quite nice. However, the room was surrounded by a very loud and boisterous group, making it difficult to hear our own conversations. The structure of the room may have contributed to the noise leakage, but I wished the staff had taken some measures to address the issue, like separating lively groups into different rooms. Additionally, the food was served incredibly slowly, with delays even for dishes like crab vinegar, crab sashimi, crab hot pot, and crab sushi. The wait for the rice and egg for the porridge set after the hot pot was nearly 10 minutes, which was quite frustrating. Moreover, the way the staff poured the dashi for the porridge was unprofessional, as they held the pot by the pour spout, which seemed careless. The lack of slippers in the room was also inconvenient, especially in this season when taking off and putting on boots to go to the restroom was a hassle. The crab shell sake had no aroma at all, which was a huge disappointment compared to the rich and delicious crab shell sake I had at the Higashi and Naka stores in Dotonbori. Overall, I don't think I will visit this restaurant again. Next time, I will go to Umeda or Dotonbori.
