I visited the restaurant on a holiday afternoon. I ordered a set of cold soba and gyudon. Since up to 3 servings of soba are the same price, I decided to start with 2 servings. The amount was just right when combined with the gyudon. I think most adult men could easily finish 2 servings of noodles, and even 3 servings. The flavor of the gyudon broth soaked into the rice was delicious.

I visited Mr. West in Suwanocho, Kurume City. It was incredibly hot today, so I ordered zaru udon. Although I have been to West many times, I don't remember ever having zaru udon before, so I decided to try it. It was not as good as the hot udon. The noodles in the zaru udon lacked a bit of firmness and were a bit stretchy. At West, soba is definitely the better choice for zaru. You can even get free refills up to three times. Thank you for the meal.

I entered the restaurant around 1 pm on a holiday. It was already full, with 2 groups waiting, and I was seated at the counter in the back of the restaurant after about a 10-minute wait. I wanted to order the double portion of meat soba for 760 yen, but the counter seats were separated by vinyl dividers, there was no call button, and the counter and kitchen were separated by glass, so I didn't know how to call the staff to place an order. The staff also didn't come to the back counter area very often. I had no choice but to go back near the entrance and call out to a staff member. If they are taking various precautions for infection control, I would like them to consider making it easier to place orders. After placing my order, the meat soba arrived in about 8 minutes. I forgot to take a photo, but it was topped with chopped green onions and the meat was sparsely placed. I added some tempura flakes and chili pepper as toppings at the counter. The meat in the meat soba had a thin flavor and lacked presence. The broth was delicious, but the taste of the meat didn't come through at all. Since the meat is also expensive as a topping, it would be better if it had more impact. My impression of the restaurant has changed a bit.

I went to a soba brand restaurant in Ueno. The menu is almost the same as the one in Udon West. I ordered the tempura soba, but they insisted on only serving up to 3 portions for the same price. I ended up ordering just one portion. The menu mentions the health benefits of soba and recommends eating it once a day for good health. I wish they offered a discount for eating it daily. The tempura came with two shrimp, just as expected. They also extended the promotion. I chose water as my drink instead of beer.

I had dinner at Waist. I was drawn to the spring limited menu and ordered it. It felt mismatched, the chicken in the tempura didn't have any presence and I didn't even notice it when eating. The curry seemed to get thinner as I ate, and it didn't seem to function as a sauce anymore.

Visited with two family members before noon on a holiday. The restaurant was about 60% full. We were seated at a table for four and ordered the mixed soba with three servings for 570 yen. My companion ordered the autumn special, kakiage with chicken and burdock and enoki mushroom with grated radish udon for 720 yen. The dishes arrived promptly, with the soba coming first and the udon following about 6 minutes later. The kakiage was similar in size to the photo on the menu, and although the aroma was lacking, the smooth texture as it went down was quite pleasant. After finishing our meal, we were offered soba broth as well. Considering the cost-performance ratio, this restaurant is not a bad choice.

This is a restaurant located along Route 3 in Kurume City, Fukuoka, which is known for its udon chain, West, but this particular branch focuses on soba noodles. I visited on a weekday night and the restaurant was bustling with families. I sat at the counter and checked the menu. Ah, I see why there are so many families here! Both single and set orders for soba noodles are priced the same for up to 3 servings. I was tempted by the deal and ordered a soba set as well. I ordered the Kakiage-don set with 2 servings of soba for 820 yen. The Kakiage-don came with the sauce on the side, which I personally prefer. The kakiage was crispy with a not-too-thick batter. It was delicious, especially with the sweet and juicy onions. The soba noodles were served in a large bowl, making the 2 servings look small, but it was actually quite filling. The broth had a nice aroma and a balanced saltiness. The noodles were cooked slightly softer. Even with just 2 servings, it was quite a generous portion. I think I wouldn't have been able to finish 3 servings. While it may not compare to a traditional soba restaurant, the amount of food you get for under 1000 yen is impressive. Thank you for the meal! I often see a udon restaurant called "West" in Fukuoka City. I also noticed it in the suburbs of the prefecture. I didn't know that West had such a wide presence, not just in the city. And on this day, I learned that in Fukuoka, tempura udon is usually served with the tempura on a separate plate. It does make sense because if the tempura is served in the same bowl, the batter would become soggy by the time you start eating. I used to think that was normal. Serving it on a separate plate is a simple solution, but it must be tough to deal with the extra dishes to wash.

I went to Soba Udon in Ueno. They offer up to 3 servings of soba for the same price. Today, I had the meat topping soba and it was delicious. I had 3 servings so I was very full. They also serve motsunabe after 5pm.

I ordered duck soba. Today, for some reason, the soba was overcooked and too soft, it broke easily (T . T) I feel disappointed, but the duck meat is thick, so it makes up for it (lol)

On this day, I had brunch around 10:30 due to golf-related activities. By late afternoon, around 4:00 pm, I was already feeling hungry. So, I decided to visit the Uesuto Suwanomachi store, where I had previously left a review on MyRebi. Even though the restaurant was not crowded, they only seat single diners at the counter, which I found interesting. The restaurant is located along Route 3 with a spacious parking lot. As I entered, I noticed a sign at the entrance stating that there may be delays due to understaffing and a collaboration event with a local FM station. Despite the upfront notice, I appreciated the honesty. The interior had a clean and modern Japanese design, with jazz music playing in the background. I ordered the Spicy Negi Tsukesoba (720 yen, tax included) with three servings. The staff was accommodating, and I was seated at a 4-person table without any issues. The dish arrived promptly, and I tried the soba noodles first without any toppings. Unfortunately, the noodles lacked flavor and aroma. The dipping sauce was different from the menu photo, with all the toppings sunk to the bottom. The sauce was overly spicy, overpowering any other flavors. I had to add yuzu pepper, tempura flakes, and a soft-boiled egg to balance the taste. Overall, the soba didn't meet my expectations, unlike the udon I had at their sister store. Despite the disappointing food, I enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere.

Went to Uest for dinner. This place has recently transitioned from being an udon restaurant to an izakaya.

Recommended for those who want to eat a lot of soba noodles. The Aso-san Mori set is equivalent to 3 servings for 560 yen. You can also have unlimited refills of broth and green onions. After eating, you can also enjoy soba-yu (hot water used to boil soba noodles). The set meals with donburi (rice bowls) are also satisfying and reasonably priced.
