JR Namba Station is located directly above the Osaka City Air Terminal (OCAT) building, which serves as a commercial facility as well as a terminal for various company buses arriving from all over the country. The 5th floor of this building is home to a variety of restaurants. Due to the sharp decline in inbound tourism, this restaurant area, which was not particularly bustling to begin with, has become even quieter, with shuttered vacant shops standing out. However, on the flip side, it is a hidden gem. Unlike the bustling Namba city center where waiting for lunch is the norm, here you can leisurely choose a restaurant, which I find myself using from time to time. This time, I visited a beer restaurant that displays a variety of lunch samples in front of the store in a lively manner. It had been a while since I last visited, having used it for a quick meal before boarding a bus. Upon entering, the first thing was alcohol disinfection. I was guided to a table seat along the wall. The restaurant is quite spacious with a total of 170 seats. As it was just before lunchtime, the place was empty. The lunch menu includes "Daily Lunch" (900 yen), "Weekly Pasta" (950 yen), "Chicken Thigh Karaage Set" (920 yen), "Namba Pork Cutlet Set" (1,000 yen), "Miso Soup & Grilled Fish Set" (970 yen), "Head-on Shrimp Fry Set" (1,050 yen), "Japanese-style Grated Hamburg Steak" (1,050 yen), and "Miso Soup & Katsudon Set" (990 yen) offering a variety of Japanese and Western set meals. Each comes with a soft drink, and as it is a beer restaurant, lunch beer (medium 450 yen, glass 230 yen) is also available. From these options, I ordered the "Namba Pork Cutlet Set" and also asked for a glass of lunch beer. The absence of Chinese-style dishes in the menu is likely due to the presence of a Chinese restaurant called "Choyo-Kaku" on the same floor. Soon, the lunch beer and cup soup were brought to the table. The soup was an onion consommé with plenty of bacon in it. After a short wait, the pork cutlet and rice were served. The staff quickly realized and brought a knife and fork for me. The pork cutlet plate featured thickly sliced pork with a distinctive cut resembling a glove covered in black sauce, accompanied by plenty of cabbage and lemon garnish. Slices and whole cloves of garlic were generously piled on top of the meat, emitting a fragrant aroma of garlic and a sweet and sour scent. When I cut into the meat, it surprisingly sliced easily... perhaps it's pork shoulder? It was well cooked but had a tender texture. It may have been marinated in something with a sour taste. The sauce had a strong sweet and sour flavor, possibly based on Worcestershire sauce. Adding lemon increased the acidity, transforming the meat into a refreshing flavor. The garlic was surprisingly mild, with the whole cloves being deliciously tender. Be careful when eating as the black sauce may splash. It might be a good idea to avoid wearing white clothes. Finally, I had a complimentary soft drink at the drink corner. The staff poured me a hot coffee, as a measure against COVID-19. The coffee was enjoyable, and suddenly at noon, customers started pouring in. It seems to be popular for business lunches. Overall, I was very satisfied with the quality and price. In any case, it's a satisfying meal that goes well with rice. It's great when you're hungry and want a hearty meal.
