I visited "Kaisenya Katsugan Maru" in Suminoe Ward, Osaka City for lunch for the first time. The restaurant is located on the 3rd floor of the north building of the Oz building in the ATC, directly connected to the Osaka Neutral "Trade Center Mae" station. I visited with my wife, and my middle school son around 12:50 on a Saturday during the Obon holiday. There were about 10 customers waiting ahead of us and a few more behind us. Despite the crowded restaurants in ATC on holidays, this seemed like a good choice with relatively few people waiting. After waiting for about 20 minutes, we were escorted to our seats. We were seated at a spacious table for four, so it was a good outcome.
Our total order for today was 2,880 yen, which is reasonable considering the location.
- Kaisen Don (with udon): 900 yen
- Maguro Don (with udon): 1,180 yen
- Sakana Teishoku (fish set meal): 800 yen (today's fish was grilled sea bream)
The dishes were served gradually, with a wait of about 7 minutes. Even the Sakana Teishoku, which was served last, took about 10 minutes, so the service was reasonably speedy.
- Kaisen Don (with udon): The menu listed it as "Kaisen Zukedon" but it was actually a regular Kaisen Don with tuna, yellowtail, salmon, and squid. The sashimi was not exceptional, but it was decently tasty. The wasabi provided was quite mild, which may not be satisfying for those who enjoy a strong wasabi flavor.
- Maguro Don (with udon): This dish included two types of tuna and negitoro. My son preferred only the tuna, but in terms of value, the Kaisen Don was better.
- Sakana Teishoku: Today's fish was grilled sea bream, which was quite large. It was delicious and had a good portion size. The udon served with the set meal was average, serving as a side rather than the main dish.
ATC's restaurants are usually crowded on holidays, but this restaurant is located slightly away from the main dining area on the 3rd floor. This, combined with the reasonable prices, makes it a good choice with less waiting time and good value for money.
