I visited "Katsuya," the original tonkatsu curry restaurant near JR Namba Station, for the first time in 6 years. They had recently moved to a new location nearby in July. I arrived at 10:20 AM, 10 minutes before their 10:30 AM opening time, and they welcomed me inside even though they were already open. The restaurant had tables for four and six people, with seating for about 40 guests. I ordered the tonkatsu curry with premium pork loin. The dish arrived in about 7 minutes, and it was delicious! The pork was tender and flavorful, and the curry sauce was perfectly cooked. It was a delightful meal that made me want to come back for more. I finished it all in no time and look forward to trying a different curry next time!

I entered the restaurant at 10:48 AM on a regular day. One person left the restaurant at 11:05 AM. Two people inside ordered Chicken Curry B (with chicken thigh) for 1600 yen. The delicious stir-fried chicken with a smooth and complex curry sauce was delightful. It seemed to have a hint of bitterness, followed by acidity, richness, spiciness, and a sweet finish. I think the sauce would go well with tonkatsu, but I prefer to enjoy it plain with just the sauce. I look forward to the day when I can enjoy another meal here. Thank you for the treat.

This time, I went to the original tonkatsu curry restaurant Katsuya in Namba Motomachi. The restaurant had temporarily closed due to the aging of the building, but recently reopened in a new location on the second floor of a building very close to the old one. Their main dish is curry with tonkatsu, available in three types: A with pork loin, B with premium pork loin, and C with tenderloin, each with a different meat quality that affects the flavor of the curry sauce. The restaurant has a strong commitment to quality. The premium pork loin tonkatsu is tender and crispy, and the curry sauce is delicious. The unique flavor makes it hard to stop eating. I enjoyed every bite and was completely satisfied with this revived gem. Thank you for the meal.

It had been 30 years since my last visit to this restaurant, where I used to frequent and had been there around 50 times. The restaurant had relocated, and this was my first time visiting the new location. The old location had a Foodlog rating of 3.60, while the new location had a rating of 3.04, showing a significant decline. I decided to try their Katsu Curry A (large portion) with an additional Menchi Katsu topping. The appearance and smell were the same as before. After taking a bite, I found that the taste remained the same as it used to be - fruity with a roasted depth. The curry sauce here is specially made to complement the Katsu Curry. One thing that delighted me was the presence of chili powder on the table, which allowed customers to adjust the spiciness. This is not common in other places where the curry might be delicious but lacks spiciness. Being able to adjust the spice level is a great feature of this restaurant, which is very Osaka-like. I recommend adding both the sauce and chili powder for an even tastier experience. In Tokyo, the original Katsu Curry at Ginza Swiss is known to be quite salty, with a strong saltiness. However, the Katsu Curry at Katsuya is the best in Osaka, in my opinion. The owner of the restaurant, who was sitting at a table, is known for creating delicious dishes. In Namba, I usually choose between the hamburger at Juutei or the Katsu Curry here. When I told the owner that I hope they stay healthy and keep up the good work, they responded with a thank you, saying that my words gave them energy. I, too, receive energy from the Katsu Curry at Katsuya. I can confidently say that this is the best Katsu Curry in Osaka. Thank you very much.

Before I knew it, I had finished eating in no time. It was delicious! It had a soda-like deliciousness. It looked like a Western-style curry made with a demiglace sauce from an old hotel, but it was a bit different. I feel like the amount of beef and pork fat and flour used was small. I'm not sure though. And the thickness of the curry was like a mix of fruits. It had a sweetness with a strong spiciness, and the slight heat left in my mouth after finishing eating was pleasant. If it were closer to my home, I would rate it 4.5.

The restaurant has moved and become cleaner. The toilet is also clean now. I ordered Beef Curry A with Tonkatsu A and Ebi Fry toppings, and asked for extra curry sauce. Unfortunately, I forgot to take a picture of the potato salad. The Katsudon is no longer available. The fried chicken unexpectedly had sauce on it, so the kids didn't eat it.

I always thought that the origin of katsu curry was at Grill Swiss in Ginza, but I recently found out that there is a restaurant in Kansai claiming to be the birthplace of katsu curry. I had been wanting to visit, and now that they have relocated and reopened, I finally had the chance to go. The inside of the restaurant is clean and spacious. I ordered the recommended tonkatsu curry B. I could hear the sound of meat being pounded and fried in the kitchen. The tonkatsu was quite large, taking up about 70% of the plate. The meat was thin but tender and flavorful. The curry roux apparently uses vegetable extracts that have been aged, giving it a unique taste with a hint of sourness and sweetness. It was very delicious. However, at 1,500 yen, it was not the best value for a salaryman's lunch.

I have been trying various pork cutlet curry dishes, so I wanted to visit the original shop with that name. Despite the heat, I walked from Namba Station to find the relocated shop, which had a noticeable red sign on a side street. The shop was on the second floor up a slightly steep staircase. The building had a layout that didn't seem like a typical restaurant, with the second and third floors appearing to be residential. As I climbed the stairs, I saw tables arranged with a kitchen in the back. The shop has a long history and seems to have many regular customers. The main dish is pork cutlet curry, with options like A (regular loin), B (premium loin), and C (tenderloin), as well as special selections like BW (premium loin with beef curry) and CW (tenderloin with beef curry). There are also options like shrimp fry and chicken cutlet, making it enjoyable for families with different preferences. The 1,200 yen pork cutlet curry A had thinly sliced pork cutlet with a light curry sauce. Despite the thin slices, the pork cutlet had a flavorful breadcrumb coating that paired well with the curry, making it delicious. I can imagine that the thicker B option would be even more delicious. The menu includes a curry made with a 3-year-aged vegetable sauce, which adds a subtle sweetness to the curry that complements the pork cutlet well. It's a simple yet satisfying curry dish that lives up to the expectations set by the shop's signboard menu. I look forward to trying the chicken and shrimp dishes next time. Thank you for the wonderful meal.

I visited a restaurant that I feel like going to once every 3 months. I heard that it had moved from its previous location and reopened, so I decided to visit. The new location is about a 50-meter walk from the old one, on the second floor of a building. The stairs are quite steep. The tables seem to have been brought over from the old place, giving a sense of history. The staff are veterans and have a unique atmosphere that only Katsuya-san can create. As far as I know, the curry here is the best in Osaka. Sometimes it can be a bit bitter. In the Namba area, there are quite a few old and skilled establishments where you can enjoy the efforts of experienced professionals. This restaurant is one of those great places. Thank you for the meal.

The original katsu curry restaurant Katsuya has moved to the same street as our company. Feeling like having curry, let's spice it up! Located on the 3rd floor of their own building with an elevator, it's Katsuya Building! The interior is simple yet classic, typical of a long-standing establishment. The Beef Katsu Curry A for 1,800 yen is unique with its rich and concentrated sauce that varies depending on the meat grade. The special sauce is a mix between curry and demiglace, making it their specialty. The beef katsu with its easy-to-eat thickness is quite a treat. They carefully adjust the type, grade, and price of the katsu curry, which is quite impressive. The service is top-notch, and the cheerful and energetic female owner is still going strong. Once I achieve my next work goal, I must treat myself to the Beef Katsu BW for 4,400 yen. Cheers to Lilou and Happy! Bon appétit!

I've been wanting to go to this restaurant for a while, and finally had the chance to visit after it moved to the second floor of a different building. They now only serve pork cutlet curry. I ordered the Pork Cutlet Curry B with top loin (1500 yen). The curry had a nice color and was not too sweet or too spicy, just the right amount to stimulate the appetite. It paired well with the pork cutlet. The homemade curry made by professionals had a great taste. The conversation with the staff was also enjoyable!

I recently moved and the restaurant is currently only offering "tonkatsu curry". I chose the pork loin, the curry is slightly sweet, and the tonkatsu breading is incredibly crispy! It makes you want to eat it on its own. There is a sign outside, but the restaurant is on the second floor, which can be a bit confusing. They also have katsudon on their regular menu, so I'll try that next time.

I visited for the first time after they moved. The taste of the curry hasn't changed, it's a unique curry with Worcestershire sauce that can only be eaten here. It's located on the second floor of a small building that doesn't look like a curry restaurant. It's a taste that makes you want to go back again.

Delicious in any case. I tried everything from the cheapest pork to the most expensive, but even the cheaper options should be enjoyable.
