たるつぼ
National Route 3, heading towards Fukuoka from the Kimihata intersection (in front of Nihon Keizai University), is located next to Chikuyo Gakuen High School. Originally, I think it was a yakiniku restaurant called Ushiwakamaru. I visited the restaurant a little after 1 pm, and the seating was slightly more than half full, which is quite promising considering the current situation with the coronavirus pandemic. Upon entering, the interior of the restaurant was fairly clean. It has only been open for about a month, so it is expected, but it left a good impression. I was greeted with a simple "Irasshaimase" and was shown to my seat. There are counter seats and table seats available. The path to the seats was a bit like a maze. It seems like the water is self-serve. On the table, there were chopstick holders, chili oil, and pepper. The menu seemed quite extensive, typical of a Chinese restaurant. The weekly changing menu offers a variety that makes it not boring to visit every day. Although you usually order individual items, the weekly menu offers rice refill for free with a drink for only 750 yen! This cost-effective menu is a must-try (laughs). So, this time I chose the weekly mapo tofu B set (Taiwanese ramen). It was served like a set meal. It was unexpectedly substantial, and I couldn't help but exclaim "Wow." First, I decided to try the Taiwanese ramen. It was slightly different from what I had imagined Taiwanese ramen to be. It was soy sauce ramen topped with leeks, bean sprouts, and minced meat. Slices of red pepper were floating in the soup. "Is this how Taiwanese ramen is supposed to be?" I thought as I ate it. The taste was quite light. Since I'm not used to soy sauce-based ramen, my impression was like, "Is this how it's supposed to taste?" The set came with "fried food," which was vaguely described, but today it was spring rolls. The color was beautiful, and the taste was delicious. And then, the mapo tofu... The color was quite intense, and I thought, "It looks spicy." When I tried it, it was clearly a different kind of spiciness from red chili peppers! It was the spiciness of Sichuan peppercorns. This spiciness would be too much for children. However, it was not just spicy; the taste was quite good. Since rice refill was free, I had plenty of rice and finished eating. I then realized I hadn't received a drink and called a staff member to inquire. They said I could make my own drink from the drink bar. I thought, "They should have written this on a sign or explained it..." When I went to the drink bar, it was a bit lacking (laughs). Well, compared to a certain chain store, it's quite pitiful. There were some aspects of the service that I found lacking, such as insufficient explanations on signs or by staff members. I will continue to verify whether this is because the restaurant has just opened.
