"Tagosaku" is a specialty rice shop located in the underground food market of Fukuoka Mitsukoshi department store in Tenjin, Chuo-ku, Fukuoka. It is known for having the largest number of rice specialty stores in Japan. Established in 1966 by Takashi Baba, who used to sell miso and local dishes at department stores, the shop offers a variety of chewy and delicious rice dishes made with 100% glutinous rice. One of their popular items is the bento box called "Akauo Saikyo Yaki Bento ¥910". Customers can choose two out of five types of rice dishes such as "Akameshi", "Gomoku Okowa", "Kurimame Okowa", "Jakko Okowa", and "Gyuniku Okowa". I chose "Kurimame Okowa" and "Jakko Okowa". The "Kurimame Okowa" contains golden chestnut sweet stew, black soybeans, and sweet potatoes, offering a perfect balance of sweetness and saltiness. The "Jakko Okowa" combines Setouchi dried small sardines with popular Fukuoka dish "Ume Hijiki", creating a delicious flavor. The bento box also includes red fish saikyo-yaki, lotus root tempura, chicken meatballs, and vegetable with black vinegar sauce. It may be a bit pricey, but it is a luxurious and satisfying bento box with high-quality ingredients. I will definitely come back for more. Thank you for the wonderful meal!

In the evening, there was a slight discount. I had the Nanban sauce bento with tsukune and satsuma-age, as well as the Akatsuki bento. Since it was evening, the rice was a bit hard, but there were plenty of side dishes which made me happy! The rice is delicious when eaten occasionally (^w^) Thank you for the meal.

Every winter, I look forward to it♪ That is Shisan's okowa☆ Shisan, a soul food in Kitakyushu, is often known for its udon and botamochi, but what really stands out compared to other restaurants is their okowa. They offer three types: chicken, mountain vegetables, and chestnut, but I love the chicken okowa♪ In Fukuoka, it's common to have kashiwa-meshi with udon, but at Shisan, they serve chicken okowa with udon. It's irresistible! As autumn arrives and there's still no sign of it... winter approaches and it's still missing... I asked the staff and apparently they stopped serving okowa this year. What?! They stopped serving okowa!! I've been patiently waiting all year to enjoy it and looking forward to winter, only to be crushed by this sadness. So, to satisfy my craving for okowa, I went to Tagosaku. It's a bit pricey and not as good as Shisan. Shisan's okowa is much tastier, even though Tagosaku is also delicious♪ (●^o^●)

Mitsukoshi "Tagosaku" Osechi Bento at Mitsukoshi's basement, there is a place called "Tagosaku" where you can get delicious osechi bento. I went there after work, just before closing time, and they had various time-limited deals. The osechi bento with beef simmered in soy sauce was half price at 756 yen. The osechi may not look like it has a lot of meat, but it was soft and tasty, and the beef was delicious. It's worth checking out the deals at the Depachika before closing time.店Information

The rice cake looked very delicious, so I bought it! I also purchased the recommended chestnut rice cake from the staff. It was rich and delicious.

I fell in love at first sight with the chicken curry rice ball that a reviewer I follow posted. It's a limited-time offer, so I don't know how long it will be available, but I have to go early. It's been two months since I last visited Tenjin, and it's been 10 years since I visited the department store basement in my hometown (Shimonoseki, Kitakyushu, Fukuoka). I went to the department store basements in Nagoya and Kagoshima to enjoy tourist privileges like hitsumabushi and shirokuma, but department stores are a bit intimidating for me. I made a slight mistake by choosing a set where you can select from three types of rice balls. The chicken curry rice ball is a dry curry that is also a proper rice ball. The curry flavor and the unique rice taste go well together, and the spices like cumin or turmeric in the chicken are excellent. However, the other rice balls lacked depth and flavor, simply put, they were bland. Rice balls are best at Udon no Kiri-san after all. If I had known, I should have just gone with the chicken curry rice ball.

Visited Kobe Croquette at Mitsukoshi Fukuoka store for lunch, then headed to Fukuoka Mitsukoshi for dinner. I bought the following items: Chicken Curry Rice Ball (limited-time recommendation) for 540 yen (200g) - The three colors of bell peppers and diced chicken enhance the curry flavor. Chestnut and Bean Rice Ball for 519 yen (200g) - The slight sweetness of chestnuts and beans stimulate the appetite. Both rice balls were delicious, but personally, I preferred the Chicken Curry Rice Ball. Although the prices were a bit high for deli items, I was happy to see that they included about 20-30g more than usual. This kind of service is unique to department store basements. Thank you for the meal.

Togosaku is always a top contender for bento options. The main attraction is the deliciously sticky rice, with around 5-6 varieties cooked daily. The random appearance of the chewy rice adds a delightful element of surprise. While the bento leans towards a Japanese theme, there are around 20 different side dishes and mains to choose from. Prices range from 800 yen to 3000 yen. Although I haven't used it for company purposes, it seems like it would be well-received. The variety of dishes includes a good balance of meat, fish, and vegetables, with standout options like Nishikyo-yaki, Teriyaki, and Miso-grilled dishes. This commercial facility closes at 8 pm, so depending on the timing, you may come across some discounts.

While walking through the depachika (department store basement) of Fukuoka Mitsukoshi, I came across a small Hello Kitty-themed inari sushi. I am not a die-hard Hello Kitty fan, but I couldn't resist reaching out to try it. Please forgive me for this indulgence. In terms of taste, I would rate it 3.8 out of 5. The inari sushi was delicious, with the fried tofu not being too soggy, which I personally prefer. The service was polite and I had a pleasant shopping experience. The atmosphere in Fukuoka Mitsukoshi was nice, and the location is convenient, being a 5-minute walk from both the Nishitetsu Fukuoka Station and Tenjin subway station. Overall, considering the location and quality, the cost performance is good. The customer satisfaction score is 64.5 out of 100.

"Tagosaku" is a specialty store that focuses on bento boxes and side dishes, with rice balls as the main attraction. This time, my daughter, who was visiting Tenjin, bought a bento box for me.
◆ Special Selection: Saikyo Grilled Sawara and Side Dish Bento Box 950 yen (tax included) [Product Description] The bento box includes Saikyo grilled sawara, vegetable with black vinegar sauce, and various other side dishes. The three types of rice balls (scallop, chestnut beans, five ingredients) were a bit firm in texture. Personally, I prefer softer rice balls, but these were still delicious. However, the side dishes were overall heavily seasoned, giving off a commercialized feel, which was disappointing. The price of nearly 1000 yen seemed a bit high for what was offered."
