On Saturday at 13:30, I went to "Kitoro" in Tenjinbashi Rokuchome. This restaurant is famous for its Sauce Katsu Don. So, of course, I ordered the "Katsu Don (1,210 yen)" as a single item. It arrived in 8 minutes. There are three large pork cutlets on top. This is quite impressive. I took a bite. Delicious. The pork thigh meat has just the right amount of fat, the coating is crispy, the meat is tender, and the sauce has soaked in well. The rice is also nicely coated with sauce, but it's not spicy at all. This simple Sauce Katsu Don with just pork cutlets has a taste that is quite addictive. They use only domestically produced branded pork, and the rice is 100% pesticide-free Koshihikari rice directly delivered from a contracted farmer in Fukui Prefecture. The Sauce Katsu Don originated in Fukui Prefecture, but the owner's mother is from Fukui Prefecture and wanted people in Osaka to enjoy delicious Sauce Katsu Don, so she started serving it here. The homemade Worcestershire sauce is made with several types of aromatic vegetables and broth, giving it a light finish. The pork is made from Ebi Sumo pork from Awaji Island. It is fried in a special lard and corn salad oil, then dipped in homemade Worcestershire sauce to finish. I will definitely want to come back to have this Sauce Katsu Don again. However, the other tonkatsu menu items are also tempting. It was delicious. Thank you for the meal.

In Fukui Prefecture, there is a local specialty called Sauce Katsu Don which seems to be a famous dish, as there were many colored papers about it. They use fresh meat instead of frozen, and the homemade sauce is delicious. I tried the No.1 Mori Mori set meal, even though I wasn't familiar with Sauce Katsu. The tender fillet katsu was fluffy and the red sauce was sweet and tasty. The shrimp fry, which looked like Inaba Udon, had a firm texture and the tartar sauce was excellent. The famous Sauce Katsu and Sauce Minced Katsu went well with rice and cabbage. This was so delicious! It's always exciting to discover and enjoy a new local specialty. The family-run restaurant was very welcoming, and the kind mother there made me feel at ease. I definitely want to come back and eat here again!

I was debating between trying a new chicken cutlet restaurant or getting my favorite sauce cutlet bowl, and ended up choosing the sauce cutlet bowl after a long time. I was worried it might be crowded during weekday lunchtime, but it was empty. The owner, despite the heat, thanked me for coming from far away. I ordered the Mix A Bowl (shrimp and 2 cutlets) set and it was delicious! It was worth coming all the way here, even though it's a bit pricey. I'm very satisfied. Thank you for the meal.

I used to live near this restaurant when I was young, and I frequented it day and night. Every time I heard good reviews about it, it reminded me of my youth, so I decided to visit again. The son of the owner, who used to run the place when I was in junior high school, now manages it, and I was surprised by how much time had passed. This restaurant is known for its pork cutlet bowls, not for premium brand cuts like rib loin or fillet, but for the sauce cutlet bowl. The cutlet bowl here uses moderately fatty thigh meat without any cabbage or other toppings, just rice and sauce cutlet, and I suddenly felt the urge to eat it again. The cutlet bowl set costs 1,485 yen and comes with salad and miso soup (you can also get just the cutlet bowl for 1,320 yen). In my hometown, pork cutlets were always made with thigh meat, so it was familiar and easy to enjoy. While I have tried many restaurants that focus on different brands and cuts, I still have a soft spot for thigh meat pork cutlets. The cutlet is fried flat with a crispy coating, and the sauce is just enough to maintain the crispy texture. The right balance of tenderness and crispiness in the cutlet and the elegant sauce that doesn't overpower the pork cutlet and rice make it a great dish. Getting three large thigh meat cutlets for 1,320 yen is a great deal! While premium fillet cutlets are nice, the cost-effective thigh meat cutlets make me want to keep coming back. Thank you for reading until the end. Your likes, saves, and follows are very encouraging. If you like, please give me a click. I also have Instagram @ginjirou.star, so feel free to check it out.

The tonkatsu restaurant is always crowded during lunchtime. It's a popular place. I have visited several times before and always ordered the hirekatsu set! But this time, I tried the menchikatsu and tonkatsu double donburi for the first time. It's a sauce katsu donburi! The sauce is the original sauce from Kitoro. The sauce is spread on the rice at the bottom. Of course, the menchikatsu and tonkatsu are also seasoned with the sauce. The sauce is light, slightly sweet, and has a soy sauce-like aroma. It's delicious! If you're looking for a hearty meal, the tonkatsu set with miso soup and salad might be a good choice. Thank you for the meal. I asked for a smaller portion of rice and was able to finish it.

A famous tonkatsu restaurant located between Nakatsu and Nakazaki-cho! They serve generous portions and you can choose how well-cooked you want your tonkatsu to be. It's satisfying and perfect for treating yourself to a little luxury at lunchtime. It's a bit far from the station so be prepared to walk. I will definitely go back. Thank you for the delicious meal.

I tried the special loin cutlet set with an additional sauce cutlet to take home in a bento box. The loin cutlet alone was quite a generous portion. The coating was light, not too thick or thin. It is made with "Ebisu Mochi Pork" from Awaji, which has a refined fat content that melts into your tired body (laughs). I didn't feel too greasy, so I thought it was good quality meat. It comes with salt, so you can enjoy two different flavors. The sauce has a unique tomato acidity, similar to demi-glace sauce. I think it's good in its own way, but personally, I prefer the regular tonkatsu sauce. Maybe because I had the loin cutlet first, the sauce cutlet felt a bit more like fast food.

Sauce Katsu Don is a dish with many variations across Japan, but the original can be traced back to a restaurant called "Yoroppaken" in Fukui, run by a Japanese person who returned from Germany. This restaurant in Osaka, run by someone from Fukui, offers a unique take on the classic Sauce Katsu Don. I visited for the first time on a weekday evening in May 2023. The Special Don Set priced at ¥2090 includes miso soup and salad. The set features three types of katsu: tonkatsu, minced katsu, and shrimp katsu, all served on a wide bowl without a bed of cabbage. The sauce is not overly soaked, and the bowl has a wide shape. The salad dressing uses corn oil, giving it a light and refreshing taste. The tonkatsu made from pork loin was delicious, as were the shrimp katsu and minced katsu.

I finally got to try the only place where you can eat Fukui's Sauce Katsu Don after wanting to go for a long time. I had the Upper Katsu Don Set for 1705 yen. The price was a bit high, but it was delicious. Thank you for the meal. Kitaro 06-6375-8596 Osaka, Osaka, Kita-ku, Honsen Higashi 2-15-4.

Kitaro (Kitaro) Osaka Metro Tenjinbashi Rokuchome Station Katsudon Set (1,375 yen) * Menu price at the time of visit
A restaurant where you can eat Fukui-style sauce katsudon that I've bookmarked for a long time. I finally got to visit after several years! The wife is from Fukui, and they are particular about using rice from Fukui Prefecture. The katsudon is served with a lid, so you eat it the Fukui way by putting the katsu on top of the lid. Compared to the popular Fukui restaurant, Yoroppaken... - The breadcrumbs are slightly larger. - The sauce is slightly spicier. - The quality of the meat is too good (laughs) In simple terms, it's delicious! I want to eat it again! Tamalan (2023.3.27) - 2-15-4 Honjo Higashi, Kita-ku, Osaka

On Saturday for lunch, I visited Kitaro after watching a drama where Kanno Keiko was enjoying tonkatsu. The restaurant is located near the Tenjinbashi-suji 8-chome intersection, heading towards Nakatsu from the intersection and turning left at Honjo signal. Inside, there is an L-shaped counter and table seats, with the possibility of seating on the second floor as well. The atmosphere is relaxed and the staff, including the owner and three women, are friendly. The menu offers donburi and set meals, with the special selected loin tonkatsu set being a popular choice. I ordered the special selected loin tonkatsu set for 1980 yen, made with Awaji Island Ebiusumochi pork. The pork was thick and flavorful, with just the right amount of fat. It may have been fried a little too much for some tastes. They don't have mustard available, so you may need to ask for it. My wife ordered the tenderloin tonkatsu set for 2200 yen, which was juicy and delicious. The portions were generous, and we left satisfied. Next time, I will try the famous sauce-finished katsudon. Thank you for the meal!

I'm in Osaka. The restaurant is located in Honjo Higashi, Kita Ward in Osaka city. It's a bit south from the intersection of Castle Kita Park Street and Honjo. I visited this place after a long time as I had work nearby. When I entered the restaurant, most of the seats were taken, indicating its popularity. I wasn't too excited at first because the prices were mostly over 1000 yen, but I decided to try their recommended dish, the Sauce Katsu Don. The dish took quite a while to arrive, around 20 minutes, but when it did, it was worth the wait. The three large pieces of crispy fried cutlets looked delicious. The cutlets were freshly fried, the salad was tasty, and the miso soup was hot. The rice was also delicious. However, I felt rushed as I had almost no lunch break left. If you have more time for lunch, it might be a good choice due to the quality of the meat justifying the price.

Hello there. It's been a while since I last visited here. No waiting in line, but it ended up being full. Safe. The menu looks like this. I had the katsu-don as a single item. The sauce had a nice acidity to it. The thickness was great. Of course, I ate it vertically. Thank you for the meal. Well then.

I ordered the Mix A Donburi (2 pork cutlets, 1 shrimp) here. The pork cutlet bowl here is a sauce cutlet bowl, with a slightly sweet and smooth sauce that permeates both the cutlets and the rice. The balance of the breadcrumbs, the taste of the lard, and especially the shrimp fry were outstanding with a fluffy texture and a hint of pepper. Next time, I would like to try the shrimp bowl. The staff were also very friendly and the atmosphere was very cozy.

I have been coming here regularly for about 30 years. I always order the usual A-don (shrimp and 2 pork cutlets) set. The portion of rice is small and it's a bit pricey, but this is the only place where you can eat Fukui's sauce katsu-don. It's much closer and cheaper than going to Europe-ken. Thank you for the meal.

I visited after 12 o'clock! When I looked at the menu, I was surprised! The cheapest item was the Katsudon (single item) for 1210 yen, haha, it's expensive. But I heard it was delicious, so I ordered it looking forward to it. A Katsudon with three big pork cutlets arrived! The meat was tender and very delicious! I was quite full afterwards. It's a bit expensive for lunch, but it might be worth treating yourself to it as a reward.

Pork cutlet bowl set for 1,375 yen. In the Gunma prefecture where I was born and raised, there are several restaurants known for their sauce katsudon culture. The ones in Gunma are more affordable, giving a nostalgic feeling and a sense of wanting to try. The meat has a strong flavor and fat, which pairs well with the moist coating and sauce. Some reviews mention that there is not enough rice, which is true, but the size of the cutlet makes up for it, so I am satisfied. The miso soup with trefoil and enoki mushrooms has a gentle taste, and the salad is average. I would like to try other dishes, but they come at a decent price...

I didn't feel like walking much, so I took a bus from Nakatsu Station and went three stops. I ordered my usual A-don set (with shrimp and 2 pieces of pork cutlet). The sauce cutlet bowl was delicious too. The cutlet and shrimp were both tasty. The salad from Southen had finely chopped cabbage, and the miso soup was rich with enoki mushrooms and trefoil. I think everything was delicious. If they could give me a little more rice, it would be perfect. If I could add shrimp or minced cutlet as toppings, I would make it a mountain of food and eat it all. I always think I want to eat more. I could still eat more. Thank you for the meal.

"Hirekatsu-don for 2035 yen. Located a few minutes' walk from Temmabashi Rokuchome Station. The restaurant was empty as it was close to closing time. I ordered the Hirekatsu-don and could hear the sound of banging from the kitchen. The thinly sliced meat was coated in a crispy batter. It was generously topped with a tangy sauce, giving it a unique flavor. It was light and easy to eat. Thank you for the meal."

This is a popular restaurant in Fukui, where the first owner, who was also from Fukui, started the business over 30 years ago. The restaurant is now run by the second generation. They are known for their sauce katsu don, which attracts customers from the local area. The menu includes dishes like tenderloin katsu don and mixed fried rice bowls, as well as set meals. I ordered the tenderloin katsu don set, which comes with salad and miso soup. The dish features three generous pieces of tenderloin katsu with Worcestershire sauce, which gives the meat a rich flavor. The katsu is thinly sliced but still juicy and tender, providing a satisfying meal. The rice is generously topped with Worcestershire sauce, creating a simple yet deep flavor. This sauce katsu don is so delicious that you won't be able to stop eating it with chopsticks – it's different from the typical egg-topped katsu don and offers a unique and enjoyable dining experience.

I visited around 12:10 on a regular day, and it was a bit crowded. I had to wait for about 1 minute to enter, and then I sat at the counter and immediately placed my order. However, the specialist in frying tonkatsu seemed to be taking their time and not actually frying the tonkatsu. I could see them making miso soup - cutting tofu into small pieces and pouring enoki mushrooms and soup into a bowl. I was getting a bit impatient as I had other things to do and my time was limited. Finally, after about 30 minutes, my tonkatsu set meal was served. The tonkatsu was crispy and delicious, with a juicy meat inside. They had placed paper underneath to absorb excess oil, which was a nice touch. The cabbage was cut very short, making it difficult to eat, and I would have preferred it to be sliced normally. The miso soup was hearty and flavorful with plenty of soybean pieces. The rice was also good. Unfortunately, the slow service made me leave some food behind as I was running late for my next appointment. Overall, it was a decent meal, but the lack of hooks for bags and the high price for extra rice were a bit disappointing. I might visit again if I have the time and feel like it.
