[The shop introduced this time] ⚫️Katsudon Chiyomatsu Abeno Hoop Store ✔️Japan's number one katsudon with a lid that won't close, devised by a former sumo wrestler! ✔️Following Namba, the second store is now open at Abeno HOOP! ✔️You can eat that katsudon without waiting in line now! [Address] B1F, 1-2-30 Abenosuji, Abeno-ku, Osaka City, Osaka [Contact] 06-6626-2752 [Business Hours] 11:00-23:00 [Closed] As per Abeno Hoop schedule [Budget] ¥2000-¥3000 [Access] 2 minutes walk from Tennoji Station: Midosuji Line, Tanimachi Line [Menu we tried this time] ・Special 5cm Katsudon Set I hesitated if I could finish it, but I decided to try the Special 5cm Katsudon. Ordered and it arrived in about 5 minutes. Finally, I met the Special Katsudon, and the visual is amazing. The thickness of this katsu is perfect for photos. When you hold it with chopsticks, you can feel its weight. This thick meat is 5cm thick, as they say. It's my first experience with such a thick tonkatsu! The salad is perfect for tonkatsu, and the fat x lard is cooked slowly at low temperature until 24:00, which concentrates the umami flavor. It's juicy and the umami spreads wonderfully. Not only that, the meat is tender, and the batter, although slightly thin, has a crispy texture, making it easy to eat without feeling heavy. The rice is a blend of white rice and mochi barley. The richly seasoned broth with a smooth egg matches perfectly with the rice. At the counter of the shop, you can choose from four flavor-changing items: salt, curry salt, ichimi togarashi, and powdered sansho pepper on a small plate. Personally, I recommend the curry salt and powdered sansho pepper! Both have a strong flavor, so when you dip the katsu in them, it's a great match! It's nice that you can enjoy it until the end without getting tired of it. I thought I couldn't finish it, but before I knew it, I was completely absorbed in eating the katsudon. I ended up finishing it without realizing it. What surprised me the most was that it was easy to eat without feeling heavy. The main store in Namba is famous for having long lines even before opening, but you can eat that Special Katsudon without waiting in line at Tennoji. For those who might think it's like a food court, it was incredibly delicious! The Abeno HOOP store is limited until May, so if you're interested, please give it a try. It was delicious. Thank you for the meal. ☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆ This account records the lunch outings of an amateur salaryman, focusing on restaurants that catch my interest. I will continue to share information about new discoveries and new stores with everyone. I also post on Tabelog, Google, Twitter, etc. Feel free to follow me. Thank you! 🚶‍♂️ ☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆

I went to a famous pork cutlet bowl chain restaurant nearby. It was my first time visiting, but I had heard a lot about it on social media, so I was curious to see what it was like. I had bookmarked the braised pork belly bowl, but decided to try the pork cutlet bowl, which is their specialty. The famous 5cm size was reduced to 2.5cm for lunch. When the dish arrived, the lid was partially open, and a flag was standing upright - a cute presentation. The 2.5cm portion was just right! As for the taste... it was delicious! Pork cutlet bowls I've had before tend to have a brownish color inside due to the frying process, and even at good restaurants, the meat can be a bit tough and have a strong meaty flavor. However, the pork cutlet here had a softer, more tender meat inside, with a flavor reminiscent of the pork used in char siu or braised pork belly. It was different from other places and quite satisfying! I would like to try the braised pork belly bowl and pork cutlet curry next time. I will definitely be back! Thank you for the meal.

I felt like eating something hearty and flavorful, so I went to Chiyomatsu in the food court. It was my first time visiting, and I tried their pork cutlet with garlic-infused eggs and breadcrumbs. It had a similar taste to Jiro-style ramen, and I found it quite satisfying. This place is more about serving hearty meals rather than gourmet dishes. It's best to visit when you're feeling well. The rice had barley in it, and they used multiple spices, which I appreciated. Thank you for the meal!

I went to Chiyomatsu at Abeno Hoop store over the weekend! The underground floor of Abeno Hoop is a food court with many famous shops. I went to lunch with my friends at the popular Chiyomatsu. It took about 20 minutes for the food to be ready. The pork was made from a cut called rib roast, seasoned like braised pork and made into tonkatsu. There were various seasonings like curry flavor, but it was too heavy for me after the third piece. I couldn't finish it. I bought a take-out container for 100 yen. The egg bowl under the tonkatsu had a sweet seasoning and was delicious. Personally, I would prefer if the pork was not pre-seasoned and made with leaner loin meat. Thank you for the meal!

I found a popular katsu-don on Instagram and decided to stop by the Abeno Hoop store in Osaka while in the city. The parking fees are a bit high in the Abeno area, so I quickly ate and left. The food court in the basement of Abeno Hoop, south of Abeno Harukas, has the restaurant I was looking for, Minna no Chiyomatsu. I ordered the Melt-in-your-mouth Smiling Pork Belly Donburi (450g for 1750 yen) and the Premium Katsu-don (2400 yen) with my partner. We tried the Premium Katsu-don, which was impressively thick at 5cm. The lid on top seemed unnecessary, but it was actually to temporarily place the katsu while eating. The rice topped with a fried egg was delicious. The Smiling Pork Belly Donburi was simmered in black vinegar, but the acidity was not overpowering. It was not too rich and easy to finish. Overall, it was a satisfying meal.

Monday lunch. I went to Abeno Hoop to get a Chiyo Matsu Katsu Sandwich as a treat for the members who are watching the house while I'm off. "Minna no Chiyo Matsu" restaurant. Before that, I decided to try their lunch menu. I ordered the "melting smile pork belly bowl". Is it the smile that melts, or the pork belly? The presentation is outstanding! The location for taking photos is in front of a neon board, and the pink neon reflection makes it look a bit less appetizing, but please bear with me. At Coco Ichibanya, I only eat 300g of food, but this dish has 400g of just meat. For an additional 100 yen, it comes with pickles and minestrone, so I decided to add them. Well, it's heavy. I tried to shift the meat with my chopsticks and ended up cutting it in half because it looked like it might spill over the edge of the bowl. I tried a bite. It does have a melt-in-your-mouth tenderness, but that's only in the fatty parts. The lean meat is dry and lacks flavor. There's no punch of black vinegar, and finishing the dish feels like a challenge. There were apparently seasoning sauces available, but since there was no explanation, I didn't notice them until I finished eating. The smile didn't melt either. The highlight here was the side of pickles and minestrone. Honestly, if it was just the pork belly bowl, I might have left half of it uneaten, but this side dish set saved the day. I definitely recommend getting the set. I wish the rice had more of the pork belly broth poured over it. The simmered egg was delicious. Well, this is what you call an Instagrammable dish. Taste seems to be secondary. If the flavor was a bit more satisfying, I might have considered adding two more sandwiches. But I think I won't be trying that again. It's worth experiencing once, I suppose. It's definitely a visually appealing dish. If it was a cutlet, I might have been more satisfied. But I probably won't be attempting that. Thank you for the meal. #Tennoji #AbenoHoop #B1 #FoodCourt #MinnaNoChiyoMatsu #5cmPorkBellyBowl #5cmKatsuSandwich #OneTimeSatisfactory #HardToEatMeal #InstagrammableMeal

Recently, I have been going to Abeno Hoop quite often (laughs). Today, I went to Chomatsu with my junior to try the 5cm thick tonkatsu that we have been talking about for a while. I have been curious about it for a while because of its thickness and also because I saw a woman enjoying a katsudon while I was struggling to finish my spicy dish last time. So today, of course, I ordered the katsudon set. The price was 2,500 yen (laughs), which is quite expensive for a food court, especially for a katsudon! Let's dig in! Look at this thickness! The first bite is irresistible! It's even softer than it looks! Delicious! But it's hard to reach the egg! Finally, after eating two pieces of katsu, I reached the egg! The taste is not too heavy, with just the right amount of sweetness. It's delicious! This katsudon is really good! And then there's minestrone! Huh?? You might think it's strange to have minestrone with katsudon, right? I thought so too. But the acidity of the minestrone helps to refresh your palate after the rich katsu and egg. It's surprisingly good! However, here comes a little tragedy for me... the portion is too big... it's hard to eat the katsu... in reality, the katsu doesn't have much flavor other than the seasoning. It's different from the typical katsudon where the katsu is more manageable with the egg. The last 2-3 pieces are tough to finish. I managed to finish it, but... I want to ask the staff to make a half portion! I don't mind having 2-3 fewer pieces of katsu, but please make sure it's properly covered with egg! Please! If they do that, I will definitely come back to eat (laughs). So, even though the portion is large, I will come back for more (laughs). *My junior said there should be a restaurant in Minami, but it seems to be always crowded. However, since this one is located in a food court, you can eat without waiting. But it's probably only on weekdays. I assume it will be crowded on weekends. If you're interested, please give it a try! The portion is large, but it's delicious!

I went to Chiyo Matsu's Abeno Hoop food court (^_-) I really wanted to eat the chicken katsu oyakodon! Waiting in the food court, this is also nice (^ . ^) When the buzzer rang, I went to pick it up and... it was a huge portion!!! The chicken katsu is just so big (^。^) Can I finish this, but it's so delicious (^^) The katsu is crispy, juicy, and the chicken is just huge (^_-) The curry salt for flavoring is also amazing ^ - ^ If you're really hungry, you should definitely go there ^ ^

JR Tennoji Station is a 3-minute walk away. Located in the basement of Abeno Hoop, the food court area is the famous "Chiyomatsu," known for its super thick cutlet bowl. While the main store in Nihonbashi always has long lines, this location in the food court allows for a more relaxed experience. Named "Minna no Chiyomatsu" to accommodate the many customers, this location offers a special dish called the "melting smile braised pork bowl," featuring a massive 400g pork belly braised on top of the bowl. The lid of the bowl can't even close properly, and you'll have to dig in with gusto as you can't even pick it up with chopsticks (laughs). The taste is surprisingly light thanks to the power of black vinegar. The fat isn't overpowering, and you might just finish it all in one go. They provide salt, curry salt, sansho pepper, and shichimi togarashi for flavor variations, with curry salt being my recommendation. While the taste is not likely to get boring, the quantity is incredible! It might be a bit tough for anyone other than big eaters. The amount of both the braised pork and rice is no joke. You can add minestrone and pickles for an additional ¥100, which is a good choice. The crunchy pickles are a nice break between bites, and the tomato-rich minestrone is flavorful and delicious! This is a must-add. The "melting smile braised pork bowl" is limited to 20 servings, so if you want to try it, it's best to aim for the opening hours!

Kansai local TV program "Magic Restaurant, Is That True!?" featured this restaurant in the Kansai Gourmet Rumors episode aired in February 2023. The main branch of this restaurant, run by a former sumo wrestler, serves the thickest katsudon in Japan, weighing about 1kg in total with around 400g of meat. They use rib loin from Kyushu pork and marinate it in homemade broth for about 24 hours before cooking it at low temperature. The restaurant has become extremely popular on social media, with the main branch always having a long line of about 100 people waiting (many of them foreigners). However, the only branch of this restaurant is located in a food court, so there is usually no line. I visited the branch for a pre-drinking gathering with Kitasan, right after it opened. We ordered the Chiyomatsu specialty top-grade 5cm katsudon for 2,400 yen (tax included). It was lunchtime, so there were quite a few customers, but we were the only ones ordering the most expensive dish. When we tried the katsudon, it was more like braised pork than traditional tonkatsu, as it was deep-fried after being braised. The meat was tender all the way through, and the flavor was well-distributed with a hint of the oil from the batter. We didn't need any sauce, but there was salt provided for those who wanted to adjust the flavor. We shared one bowl of katsudon between Kitasan and me, and we were extremely full afterwards due to the high-fat content of the meat. It was a well-made tonkatsu, but it had elements of a Jiro-style dish, so it may not be suitable for everyone. Despite knowing that, it was delicious. Thank you for the meal.

Last year in April, "Katsudon Chiyomatsu Sen Nichi Mae Store" opened in Nipponbashi, Osaka. They serve a 5cm thick, 350g Katsudon. Later, they opened a takeout Katsu Sandwich store called "Katsu Sand Chiyomatsu" in Umeda, Osaka. They also introduced what might be Japan's largest Tonkatsu Onigiri at "Tonkatsu Onigiri Chiyomatsu" in Shinsaibashi, Osaka. Additionally, the temporary "Katsudon Chiyomatsu Abeno Hoop Store" in Tennoji, Osaka has now become a permanent store under the name "Minna no Chiyomatsu Abeno Hoop Store". They offer a Chicken Katsu Oyakodon for 900 yen.

Chiyomatsu, known for their incredibly thick katsudon, is still buzzing with long lines at their Abeno Hoop store. I went there after hearing that they offer a melt-in-your-mouth braised pork belly bowl made with 400g of pork belly simmered until tender. The Braised Pork Belly Bowl with a melting smile costs 1750 yen. It is simmered in black vinegar, giving it a deep flavor, and surprisingly refreshing, making it easy to eat a lot. This Abeno Hoop store is located in a food court with plenty of seating, so there is hardly any waiting time. It's recommended for those who want to eat delicious food without waiting too long. - Restaurant Information - Name: Minna no Chiyomatsu Abeno Hoop Store Address: HOOP B1F, 1-2-30 Abenosuji, Abeno-ku, Osaka Nearest Station: Tennoji Business Hours: 11:00 - 21:30 Regular Holiday: Open every day (follows Abeno Hoop schedule) Phone: 06-6626-2752 *All information is taken from gourmet websites, and details may have changed, so please call the restaurant before visiting.

This shop is located about a 5-minute walk from Tennoji Station! It is located in the food court in Abeno HOOP underground! This time, I tried the limited edition "Melting Smile Pork Belly Bowl" which is limited to 10 servings per day, and it seriously melts in your mouth! I thought it was just a big portion, but it was seriously delicious and I was impressed! Next time, I want to try the famous pork cutlet bowl!

The restaurant seems to be frequented by Mairevi-san, but if you can enjoy the same quality without waiting in line, this would be the preferred choice. The Hoop food court doesn't open until 11 am, so there were about 15 people lined up before opening, with 80% of them aiming for "Ramen Mitsuba." However, there was also a group ahead of me at Chiyomatsu. I ordered the braised pork bowl for 1750 yen with extra rice for 100 yen, and the Chiyomatsu pork cutlet sandwich for 1200 yen this time, instead of the tonkatsu. Since it's a food court, I waited at the table with the calling bell after placing my order. The two people who ordered before me had a thick pork cutlet bowl and braised pork bowl. They might be sharing it. Then my buzzer went off. Instead of putting everything on one tray, they divided it into two trays, so they brought it over in two trips. The braised pork bowl seemed bigger than the one the person next to me had ordered, but it's hard to say for sure without a scale (they didn't bring one). Anyway, no complaints. I started with the braised pork bowl, and since I had upgraded to extra rice for 100 yen, the rice was piled up to the edge of the bowl. The braised pork was tender and had a tasty seasoning. The rice with the sauce was also delicious. After finishing the bowl, I moved on to the pork cutlet sandwich, which used a thick 5cm pork cutlet. However, because it wasn't thinly sliced like in a pork cutlet bowl, it was a bit difficult to eat due to its thickness. It was soft and delicious, especially with the mustard sauce on the bread. The sandwich alone was quite filling, so ordering both the braised pork bowl and the sandwich made me full. Since it was still early in the food court, it wasn't too crowded, but people eating dishes from other restaurants kept staring at the braised pork and thick cutlet as they walked by. Both the braised pork bowl and the sandwich were delicious. Thank you for the meal.

Last time, I was told it was sold out because it was Sunday afternoon, but this time I visited on Friday night and ordered the overflowing chicken cutlet and egg bowl. The cutlet was even bigger than in the picture, and the lid no longer closes. Each piece is juicy and crispy, and I got the large rice portion, but I think I could have done without it. For 900 yen, this is a great deal!

Katsudon Chiyo Matsusan has opened a temporary store at Abeno Hoop, which has now become a full store under the name "Minna no Chiyo Matsusan". I visited the Minna no Chiyo Matsusan store at Abeno Hoop with my fishing buddies. The address is 1-2-30 Abenosuji, Abeno Ward, Osaka City, a 2-minute walk from JR Loop Line "Tennoji" Station. We arrived at Hoop before 11 am. The Hoop Dining area has been renovated, with the outdoor and food court signs updated. Minna no Chiyo Matsusan is located at number 6. We met up with my fishing buddies and secured seats in the food court before heading to number 6. Closed on: same as Abeno Hoop, Opening hours: 11:00-23:00. The dining area at the back has been removed and various decorations, including pig figurines, have been added. We received permission to take photos and saw that the katsudon bowls come in two sizes: the special size is 5 cm and the regular size is 2 cm, both served as a set with pickles and minestrone soup. Optional extras include adding eggs (1 or 2) and extra rice. A special dish exclusive to Abeno Hoop is the overflowing chicken katsu oyakodon set, limited to 10 servings per day. We ordered two of the limited "melting smile" pork belly rice bowls for 1,750 yen each. After paying, we received a buzzer and waited for our order. The pork belly overflowing from the bowl was a sight to behold! 400g of pork belly!!! The half-cooked egg combined with the pork belly was a delightful experience. We then moved to the food court to enjoy the thick-cut pork belly. The Minna no Chiyo Matsusan flag caught our attention! The meal was delicious and we also had the option to take home any leftovers for 100 yen. We thanked the staff and left the Minna no Chiyo Matsusan Abeno Hoop store, satisfied and full.

I came to Abeno HOOP to avoid the long line at Chiyomatsu, a popular restaurant in Minami Dotonbori known for its thick-cut pork cutlet bowls. I ordered the premium 5cm cutlet bowl. The volume and thickness of the cutlet were impressive, just like at the main store. However, after taking a bite, I noticed something off about the meat quality. It felt a bit fibrous, almost like corned beef in texture. I want to believe it was just a one-time thing. I might have to line up at the main store again to confirm.

I had the opportunity to try the 5cm thick special pork cutlet bowl at Minna no Chiyomatsu Abeno Hoop store. The visual presentation was impressive, and the thick cutlet had a refined taste similar to ham. However, I went near closing time and the oil had soaked into the batter, causing heartburn. It was disappointing.

When it comes to food that makes me smile, it's meat! Last time in April, I introduced a limited-time store, but now Chiyomatsu from Abeno Hoop has powered up and become a permanent store! The main store in Dotonbori always has a long line for their 5cm pork cutlet bowl, while the Umeda pork cutlet sandwich at Chiyomatsu is sold out every day. In addition to these, they also have a limited-time melt-in-your-mouth pork belly bowl and a kids' lunch that adults can enjoy. And since it's a food court, there's no waiting time once you secure a seat - just wait for your food to be prepared! This time, I tried the melt-in-your-mouth pork belly bowl. It's a generous portion of 400g of pork belly that looks like it's smiling when viewed from the top. The thick, flavorful pork belly is cooked to perfection, with excess fat removed during the cooking process, resulting in tender and delicious meat that's seasoned all the way through. If you haven't tried it yet, you definitely should! If you enjoyed this post, please like and follow. And if you find any posts interesting, please save them.
