I visited the Sauce Katsu Donburi Cafe Etizen, which opened in Osaka Tamatsukuri on May 2, 2023. When I arrived around 8 pm, I was the only customer in the restaurant. The owner was handling everything by himself. During lunchtime, many office workers come, showing the great response the restaurant has received in just one month since opening. I had been curious about Etizen since discovering it on Instagram. So, this time, I ordered the Fukui Sauce Katsu Donburi in a special size. The dish arrived within 4-5 minutes of ordering, and it was incredibly voluminous. The bowl was packed with Koshihikari rice topped with thin slices of katsu covered in a special sauce, stacked six layers high. It was a bomb of a dish, with an impressive presentation that was enjoyable to look at before even tasting it. The secret sauce was incredibly delicious, made with sweet Echizen Ono's famous spring water. It had the perfect balance of sweetness without being overwhelming. The katsu, freshly fried and soaked in homemade sauce, was tender and flavorful. The white rice, made with Fukui-grown Koshihikari, had a light and refreshing texture that paired perfectly with the sweet sauce. The katsu being thin was due to the owner intentionally flattening the meat before frying it. By crushing the fibers, the meat became even softer, retaining its umami flavor, and allowing the sauce to coat the breading thoroughly. It was a valuable lesson. The prices ranged from small 800 yen to special size 1,600 yen, with options for pork or chicken katsu. During lunchtime (11:00-14:00), miso soup and pickles were included. For an additional 300 yen, you could add a drink set. Note that miso soup often sells out outside of lunch hours. In response to customer requests, the owner plans to consider preparing miso soup in advance to provide it promptly to customers at any time. This thoughtful consideration is commendable. While the owner is not from Fukui, his wife is, which may explain their dedication to the Fukui Sauce Katsu Donburi. The dish, filled with the owner's passion and attention to detail, is highly recommended. If you order the special size, make sure to visit on an empty stomach for the best experience. I am looking forward to trying the limited 10 servings of Shoyu Katsu Donburi with beer next time. Even though Etizen does not have an Instagram account, the owner and the restaurant are both lovely, so I highly recommend visiting this Sauce Katsu Donburi Cafe Etizen. Thank you! [Menu Ordered] - Fukui Sauce Katsu Donburi (Special Size) 1,600 yen

I visited the restaurant for lunch, but they ran out of the dish I wanted to order. So, I ended up trying the Fukui Ono Soy Sauce Cutlet Bowl. They only had the regular size available. It came with grated daikon radish and green onions on top. I was originally thinking of trying the soy sauce chicken next time, but I plan to go to a chicken restaurant afterwards. I also ordered the crunchy cheese using an AU coupon.

One day for lunch. I heard a rumor about a shop specializing in a Hokuriku specialty called Sauce Katsudon, so I decided to go check it out. The shop is called "Sauce Katsudon Cafe Etizen." The exterior of the shop is quite striking and stands out, making it exciting even before entering. I arrived just before lunchtime, so I was able to get a seat quickly, but the place quickly filled up. The shop is run by a couple in their 30s, and even a baby was left at the back table. I ordered the #Sauce Katsudon Large (Pork) #Drink set, but later realized they also had a set menu with #Echizen Oroshi Soba, which I wanted to try. While waiting, I looked around the shop as usual. There was a curious sign saying that the katsu should be moved to the lid of the bowl because it makes it difficult to eat the rice with the katsu in the way. I wondered if it was necessary to have it in a bowl in the first place. Wouldn't it be better to serve it separately? When the dish arrived, I found it challenging to scoop up the rice. The visual impact of the large size was impressive, but I left it to the younger folks to decide. I tried a piece of katsu, "It's tough..." I couldn't chew it. However, the strong taste of the pork stood out against the sauce. I tried another piece, the katsu touching the rice at the bottom. Bingo! The katsu, steamed by the heat of the rice, was slightly softer and easier to eat. So, my conclusion was to ignore the sign completely and eat from the bottom without moving the katsu to the lid. The rice was delicious, made with Koshihikari rice from Okuetsu, Fukui, which had a strong sweetness. The miso soup and pickles were plain. The coffee was on the acidic side. I used to dislike this type of taste, but I'm starting to find it a bit tasty now. The couple running the shop had a nice atmosphere and seemed cool. If I come back, I definitely want to try the soba set. Thank you for the meal. #Tamatsukuri #Tennoji-ku Uchiborimachi #Sanada Maru ruins #Sauce Katsudon Cafe Etizen #Fukui Okuetsu Koshihikari #Limited to 10 servings, soy sauce katsudon also looks interesting.

I visited during lunch time and used a ¥500 coupon from AU Pay. I ordered the Fukui sauce katsudon (large size) but wanted to change the side to soba noodles. However, I was surprised to find out that it would cost an additional ¥300. So, I decided to try the soy sauce chicken instead next time.

I wanted to eat Sauce Katsu, so I visited the restaurant in the early afternoon. I ordered a small portion of Sauce Katsu (pork), while my companion ordered a regular portion of Sauce Katsu (pork) and Echizen soba set. It arrived - when we opened it, there were two pieces of Katsu, with one more kept under the lid for us. The regular portion had three pieces. You need to chew it well, so if you prefer something softer, go for the chicken option. The sauce tasted great, and the rice made from Koshihikari rice from Fukui was delicious and paired well with it. I was pleasantly surprised to find a Fukui-style Sauce Katsu donburi in Osaka. Thank you for the meal!

The menu focuses on sauce katsudon that can be enjoyed in Fukui Prefecture, with a special limited to 10 servings per day of Fukui Ono's shoyu katsudon where you can choose between pork and chicken. Recently, they started serving Echizen Oroshi Soba, so I decided to try it out. I ordered the Fukui Ono's shoyu katsudon and the half size Echizen Oroshi Soba set. The Echizen Oroshi Soba featured slightly thicker noodles. While you can choose to have the sauce katsudon in larger sizes, the shoyu katsudon is only available in regular size. I also enjoy egg-topped katsudon, but the thin, crispy coating and lightly fried meat of this shoyu katsudon make it easy to eat. Although I initially hesitated due to various reviews when the restaurant first opened, three months have passed quickly. The restaurant is bustling with locals during lunchtime, and I recommend trying the limited 10 servings per day shoyu katsudon in addition to the sauce katsudon.

The planned restaurant was unexpectedly closed, so I ended up visiting this nearby place. It was lunchtime but there were no customers, only UberEats orders. The interior was like a Showa-era coffee shop. I ordered a small size sauce katsu don, which was like a tea cup size with two pieces of thin cutlet. I've had sauce katsu don at other places before, but this one was the sweetest I've ever tried, almost too sweet for my taste. The price was slightly higher compared to other places. I haven't been to Fukui yet, but when I do, I'd like to try the authentic sauce katsu don there.

Located in Kuhori-cho, Tennoji-ku, Osaka City. A 11-minute walk from JR Loop Line Tamatsukuri Station, I visited Sauce Katsu Don Cafe Etizen. The shop, which was originally a coffee shop, has been renovated and has been in operation since May of this year. The space is filled with a pleasant atmosphere and Western music. Here, you can enjoy the soul food of Fukui, Sauce Katsu Don. In Fukui, Sauce Katsu Don is made by dipping thinly sliced cutlets in sauce and serving them on top of rice. There is also a variation called Shoyu Katsu Don, using soy sauce from Fukui instead of sauce, particularly known as a specialty of Ono City. At this shop, you can enjoy both Sauce Katsu Don and Shoyu Katsu Don. Today, I ordered the Fukui Ono Shoyu Katsu Don "limited to 10 servings". You can choose between pork or chicken, and this time I chose pork. It costs 980 yen and comes with miso soup and pickles. The thinly fried cutlet is crispy. The soy sauce dressing is not too strong, and the grated radish is a nice accent. It is light and easy to eat, with a good match with the rice. It also has a satisfying texture. Yes, delicious! Next time, I want to try the normal Sauce Katsu Don. This is a definite revisit. It was delicious. Thank you for the meal.

I went to a restaurant after getting anesthesia at the dentist, still feeling half of my left side paralyzed. I remembered the place because my mother mentioned seeing it on TV, so I decided to go. The restaurant had an old-fashioned coffee shop atmosphere, and we were able to sit at a table. My husband ordered a special large portion of sauce katsudon, while I ordered a limited edition soy sauce katsudon. I was worried about not being able to get the soy sauce katsudon, as I don't like sauce, but I was glad they had it. The food arrived surprisingly quickly, with three pieces of tender katsu topped with shiso and grated daikon. I started eating! The katsu was soft, but lacked the crispy texture I was hoping for, maybe due to the soy sauce. It was delicious, but it was difficult to enjoy it fully with my paralyzed side still numb from the anesthesia. Nonetheless, the grated daikon and shiso added a refreshing touch, and I enjoyed the meal. Thank you for the meal! I would like to come back again when I can fully savor the flavors.

Source katsu-don is a local specialty of Fukui, but it's rare to find it in Osaka, so it's quite valuable. Recently, it seems to have appeared on TV, and the restaurant was crowded. They offer source katsu-don in four sizes: regular, small, large, and extra-large, with a choice of pork or chicken. During lunchtime from 11:00 to 14:00, it comes with miso soup and pickles. Prices are as follows: Regular 980 yen, Small 850 yen, Large 1280 yen, Extra-Large 1880 yen. This time, I ordered the Extra-Large, which comes with 6 pieces of cutlets stacked on a skewer to prevent them from falling. The cutlets are thin with a fine coating, generously covered in sauce that is slightly sweet but not overpowering. It goes well with rice and is a nice change from the usual egg-topped katsu-don. •••••• Shop Information •••••• Shop Name: Source Katsu-don Cafe Etizen Address: 16-13 Kuhori-cho, Tennoji-ku, Osaka City, 1F Dai 2 Wakou Heights Nearest Station: Tamatsukuri Business Hours: Not specified Closed: Not specified Phone: 06-7896-7457 *All information is taken from gourmet websites, so there may be changes. I asked my senior at work, and it seems like the restaurant has been featured on YouTube and TV. I love sauce katsu don, so I went there after work. It's about a 10-minute walk west from JR Tamatsukuri Station, located on the north side of the playground at Meisei Gakuen where Sanada Maru is. I arrived at the restaurant around 6 o'clock, and since there were no customers (you can sit wherever you like), I sat at a table for two by myself. I checked the menu, and although I thought the sauce katsu don was pork only, there was also chicken available. The menu recommended chicken if you prefer something tender, but I decided to go with the special serving of pork sauce katsu don for 1,880 yen. As other reviewers have mentioned, the interior of the restaurant seems to have been originally a cafe that was left as it was. It gives off a nostalgic vibe of the Showa era when there were quite a few cafes that served proper meals. When the dish was served, the special serving of sauce katsu was presented with six pieces stacked and secured with skewers so they wouldn't fall. It's definitely a visually appealing dish for social media. I measured it, and the rice was just under 600g while the katsu was just under 400g, so each piece is around 65g. I couldn't eat it as it was, so I temporarily set aside the katsu to the lid. I tried the first piece. I thought the Worcestershire sauce would be light, but it was slightly on the sweeter side with a bit of a rich flavor. It's a unique taste different from Yoroppaken or Fukushin. The special serving is almost 1kg in total, so for those aiming for the special serving, please take note. I was satisfied after trying the taste this time, but I also became curious to try the chicken. I would like to revisit soon. Please note that the opening hours will change slightly from July 1st, so if you plan to visit, please be aware. It was delicious, thank you for the meal.

"I watched the recording broadcast of 'Yo-i-don!' and jumped up about 5 cm. What?! A specialty shop for Fukui's famous sauce katsu don has opened!? I couldn't wait and visited it right away. It seems like they took over a retro coffee shop, both the exterior and interior look like an old coffee shop. But who cares! They offer sauce katsu don in sizes like regular with 3 pieces of katsu, small with 2 pieces, large with 4 pieces, and extra-large with 6 pieces. I ordered the regular size and asked if they had miso soup... and they said they had some left over from when 'Amakara Techou' was here earlier. They kindly served it to me. The sauce katsu don had stacked pieces of katsu. This arrangement of the lid is quite common these days. The katsu had a pretty dark sauce color with a glossy appearance. It's not as thick as Worcestershire sauce, more of a medium thickness? It's sweet and rich. I couldn't quite identify the spices used, it had a unique aroma. I thought it might be garlic, but they said it's not used. The katsu was thin and easy to eat, but there were some parts that were a bit tough to chew. The katsu had a strong sauce flavor, but it was lightly drizzled over the rice, creating a good balance. The miso soup had wheat gluten and seaweed in it. Since there were no other customers, I had a nice chat with the owner. He is from Kansai and his wife is from Fukui Prefecture. Of course, they were aware of Kiyoshi Hikawa's existence and we talked about it. I'll refrain from sharing the details here. The TV broadcast had a big impact, and they said the number of customers and phone inquiries increased significantly from that day. They mentioned that they will be featured in the August issue of 'Amakara Techou'. The owner was friendly and seemed to enjoy chatting. I hope the restaurant becomes popular. Personally, I have a slightly different opinion... (^^; The miso soup was a complimentary service. Thank you for the meal."

Last time, I was lucky to find leftover soy sauce cutlet rice bowl and ordered it, but I still felt unsatisfied because I wanted a stronger soy sauce flavor. After three weeks, I finally revisited the restaurant. The sauce used in the dish is made with a special soy sauce that includes various fruits from Fukui Prefecture, making it a unique and exceptional dish that cannot be found elsewhere. It will be featured on the "Yo-i Don!" show on the 21st, so if you have time, be sure to check it out!

I visited a restaurant that serves sauce katsudon, which I have been wanting to try since my snowboarding trip to Katsuyama. The restaurant is located in Kansai and was featured on Instagram, so I visited the next day. The place used to be a cafe, so it has more of a retro coffee shop vibe than a typical katsudon restaurant. Despite arriving at around 7:00 PM, I was the only customer there, creating a calm atmosphere that helped me relax after a long week. The food was said to closely replicate the taste of authentic katsudon from Fukui prefecture, and it did not disappoint. The thinly sliced pork cutlet had a perfect texture and the rice paired perfectly with the katsu. The pricing was also very reasonable for the quality of the food. I ordered the soy sauce katsudon, which was a bit lighter in flavor than I expected, leaving me craving for more salt after a tiring Friday. I definitely plan to revisit soon and try the sauce katsudon. The soy sauce katsudon is limited to 10 servings per day, so if you want to try it, make sure to visit before noon. The owner is friendly and willing to share information about Fukui prefecture and katsudon, making it a great place to unwind and have a chat after work. I was considering going to Tsuruga, but I'm delighted that this restaurant opened in Osaka during Golden Week. If you're thinking about visiting, it's a great place for friends, family, or a date.

2023 New Store Development Record Part 109 Yesterday, it was a Maguro Mashimashi Don (tuna bowl) with all-you-can-eat fresh tuna for 1,100 yen. But today, it was a different kind of bowl... Recently, the thick cutlet bowl without egg (the lid won't close) has been gaining attention as a trendy dish on social media. The Sauce Katsu Don is originally a type of thick cutlet bowl without egg. In the past, I have featured One Coin Lunches several times on my blog. Also, the Niigata specialty, the Tare Katsu Don, falls into this category. On May 2nd, the "Sauce Katsu Don Cafe Etizen" opened in Tamatsukuri, Osaka. The lunch menu includes the Fukui Sauce Katsu Don, which is served until 2 PM. Even after 2 PM, it is available at the same price, but it comes with miso soup and pickles during lunchtime. The Sauce Katsu Don at Etizen seems to have a decent amount of food, but just to be sure, I ordered the Fukui Sauce Katsu Don with pork in the special size for 1,600 yen. Since it was difficult to eat as it was, I moved the top part of the Sauce Katsu aside, and it looked like this: ==========

To Cafe Etizen with an open 5/2 source katsu don! My father and two children (4 and 2-year-old girls) rode our bikes to the park for a little outing. We had brunch at 11 am, so we weren't very hungry by 3 pm. My father wanted to try the new source katsu don, but my 4-year-old daughter insisted on udon. Unfortunately, they were out of udon, so we ended up getting the source katsu don for takeout. My daughter initially wanted chicken, but the owner recommended pork as the standard option. We ordered a large pork katsu don for 1100 yen, and my 2-year-old fell asleep. My 4-year-old daughter couldn't stop saying how delicious the katsu don was and she ate every last bit without losing her appetite. I don't usually eat katsu don, but the sauce mixed with the rice was amazing! My daughter kept saying "rice rice" as she happily ate. Since the restaurant is close to our house, we will definitely be back in the future. Thank you! ✨

I visited a newly opened restaurant called "Sauce Katsudon Cafe Etizen" on May 2nd, a short walk from Tamatsukuri. While in Osaka egg-topped katsudon is popular, this katsudon is made with sauce. It is a local specialty from Fukui Prefecture, where thinly sliced pork is coated in fine bread crumbs, fried until crispy, then mixed with sauce while hot. It is served on top of piping hot rice. Originating from a long-standing Western-style restaurant in Fukui City called "Europeken," this dish is known for using sauce instead of the typical egg topping. Customers can choose between chicken and pork for the meat. I tried the large katsudon for 1,100 yen, and it was delicious with the sauce soaking into the dish. Despite being busy on the opening day and running out of rice at one point, the staff provided attentive service. I hope this restaurant continues to thrive. Thank you for the meal.

When I went to Kochikaze, it was closed, so I entered this restaurant that caught my eye because I was hungry. I ordered the large Sauce Katsudon for 1280 yen. The stacked thin cutlets looked fun. The cutlets were a bit tough. The Worcestershire sauce was also good, reminding me of the taste I had when I traveled to Fukui prefecture in the past. The rice was delicious. I usually prefer Katsudon with egg on top, but I thought Sauce Katsudon was also good once in a while.

I went to eat. This time I went alone. For the sauce cutlet bowl (pork, small) size, the number of cutlets and the amount of rice varies. Small size has two cutlets, regular size has three cutlets, large size has four cutlets, and extra-large size has six cutlets. The amount of rice is slightly more than usual for regular size. It's about 1.5 times the amount of small size. For those who want a hearty meal, it's better to choose the sauce cutlet. Taste: ★★★★★☆☆☆☆☆ 5, Quantity: ★★★★☆☆☆☆☆☆ 4. Soy sauce cutlet bowl (pork, regular) is closer to a Japanese style with grated soy sauce. It's recommended for those who want to eat something refreshing, especially in the summer. It's also recommended for those who don't like sauce. However, it's limited to 10 servings, so order early. Taste: ★★★★★☆☆☆☆☆ 5, Quantity: ★★★★★☆☆☆☆☆ 5. Sauce cutlet bowl (chicken, small) has thickness compared to pork, and it's soft. It's easy to bite into and easy to eat. Taste: ★★★★★★☆☆☆☆ 6, Quantity: ★★★★☆☆☆☆☆☆ 4. *Please note that taste and quantity judgments are subjective, so please take them as a reference.

I went for lunch on a regular day. It was my second visit since they opened. I ordered the sauce cutlet bowl (regular size) and it was delicious just as I had expected. However, within about a month of opening, the price had increased from 900 yen to 980 yen. Also, the amount of rice has decreased, which used to make me feel full. The cutlet was crispy and tasty when dipped in the sauce, so it's disappointing.
