It is Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine. After visiting, taking a walk inside the precincts, there are many sacred trees over a thousand years old. It is a healing spot everywhere, but it is so hot and humid! I was immediately drawn to a shop. The inside of the building is air-conditioned, which is very much appreciated. I had my favorite "Tokoroten" (400 yen) and my companion had "Yuzu Honey Ice" (650 yen). Tokoroten has a smooth texture with crunchy ground sesame seeds. It is refreshing with a light ponzu sauce. Yuzu Honey Ice has a refreshing yuzu honey syrup that helps to relieve fatigue. Finally, after the sweat has dried, we looked at the souvenirs inside the shop and then went outside. It's so hot! Thank you, "Shoseikan"!

I visited this restaurant during a shrine visit. It is located towards the back of the shrine grounds, and I tried their plum rice cakes. It was the season when plum and peach blossoms were just starting to bloom, so the plum cider and rice cakes looked very beautiful! The interior of the restaurant is very spacious, and even in winter, it seems like a warm place to have a meal. They also have a variety of hearty menu items like udon and beef bowls.

A tea shop located right behind the main hall of Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine. Depending on the season, it may get crowded with tour groups, but the spacious interior creates a luxurious atmosphere with few customers. The air conditioning works well, the greenery is beautiful, and it's very comfortable. They serve Hakata specialty meat and burdock tempura udon, as well as Ume gaeshi mochi, making it perfect for greedy tourists. The udon has a smooth texture and a deliciously sweet broth. My wife, who was trying burdock tempura for the first time, was delighted. Since the udon is quite filling on its own, we only ordered one mochi. By the time we finished the udon, the hot mochi arrived. It was enjoyable to savor the Ume gaeshi mochi while panting in the cool interior. I also saw quite a few people enjoying the visually appealing Ume somen. Since the number of visitors coming all the way to the back is limited, I think this tea shop in the area is a hidden gem.

Located right behind the main hall of Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine, this restaurant offers meals and of course, their famous Ume Gaeshi Mochi. The restaurant is spacious and can accommodate large groups. There are many table and chair seats, but there are also traditional Japanese seating areas where you take off your shoes. The restroom is located to the right just outside the restaurant. We had a delicious Makunouchi meal. The Ume Gaeshi Mochi was particularly tasty. It is made of mochi and shiratama flour, with sweet red bean paste inside, making it a simple and delicious traditional Japanese sweet. The flour made from shiratama is unique. It is said that an old lady from this area tied this mochi to a plum branch and offered it to Sugawara no Michizane, which is how it got its name. In Dazaifu, you can enjoy Ume Gaeshi Mochi at various shops. The staff at the restaurant were used to handling group tours and efficiently guided us to our seats. Thank you for the meal!

"Easy-to-eat mochi outside in Dazaifu" ▶Recommended Points * ☆ ・Can be eaten leisurely near Dazaifu ・Delicious mochi and matcha! ・Enjoying nature outside! ▶Slightly disappointing Points ・None in particular! ▶Honest Thoughts ☺ A shop where you can eat mochi just after leaving Dazaifu. Of course, you can also eat regular meals! Ordering matcha and mochi as a set outside while enjoying nature is the best. The mochi is chewy and hot, filling your stomach with happiness. Please come and visit!"

Today, I enjoyed my day off while being conscious of preventing the spread of infection in the new style of life. I came to Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine. I visited the god of learning. After paying my respects, I started to feel a bit hungry. I decided to have a break at the tea house behind the main hall. Here are the menu items: - Ume-gaeshi Mochi (Japanese rice cake with sweet bean paste) 130 yen per piece - Uji Matcha Kakigori (shaved ice) with condensed milk 800 yen I ordered the famous Ume-gaeshi Mochi and, since the lingering summer heat, I also ordered the kakigori. I splurged a bit on the expensive one, but the bitterness of the authentic matcha was excellent. The Ume-gaeshi Mochi is best when freshly baked. The texture of this one was quite crispy and delicious! It's nice to enjoy tea outside on a sunny day. This season might be just right. However, despite it being snack time on a holiday, the restaurant was quite empty with only a few other customers. It looked somewhat lonely. I hope things settle down a bit more in the world. Thank you for the meal!

It was probably my first visit to Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine in about 10 years, and it was extremely crowded with people visiting for Shichi-Go-San, including adults and foreigners. The shops around the approach were bustling, but this place in the back was relatively empty. However, it seemed like there were group reservations as there were a large number of meal sets lined up. So, the actual availability of seats was limited. They also offer food menu items like Champon noodles, but I opted for a light snack: Ume-gaeshi mochi for 110 yen. While sipping on warm hojicha tea, the freshly baked mochi arrived. It was piping hot and I enjoyed the chewy texture of the mochi and the subtle sweetness of the red bean paste. It's nice to have something sweet when you're tired. I bet it would be even more beautiful during the season when the plum blossoms bloom. Perhaps because it was the weekend, there was a monkey show going on, and the performer was quite skilled. It was a delightful experience. Thank you for the meal!

In October 2014, I enjoyed a relaxing moment at Tenmangu Shrine while admiring the shrine stamp I received. Sitting outside, feeling the dappled sunlight and gentle breeze, I leisurely savored some Ume-gaeshi mochi. It felt like I had traveled back in time. The combination of mochi and sweet bean paste was delicious, and the size was easy to eat. I appreciated that I could order Ume-gaeshi mochi and also receive tea.

It's extremely crowded, so be prepared for large groups! The food is average. But that's to be expected with all these group tours. Thank you.

I visited the store that appeared in my favorite manga. The staff were very friendly and the store was spacious. I had two pieces of Umeboshi Mochi and a cola.

I am enjoying some plum mochi and tea outside. It's a bit chilly, but the warm tea and plum mochi are delicious. There are a lot of visitors at Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine today! It's Sunday and the weather is nice, so it's great to enjoy them outside. I often eat plum mochi at service areas or festivals. Every plum mochi is tasty, but the authentic one here is really special with its crispy exterior and fluffy interior. It's so relaxing to enjoy tea and plum mochi in this atmosphere. There are many stalls selling plum mochi along the approach, but this place is recommended as it's less crowded.

I took a breather. It was a relaxing spot in between visiting Tenmangu Shrine. It's a nice place to take a break with a restroom in the back, making it easy to relax! The weather was good, so I decided to sit outside. I ordered some umegae mochi, and after a short wait, I got a freshly made, hot umegae mochi! Normally, they are individually wrapped in plastic, but this time I had it unwrapped for the first time, and it was crispy on the outside, chewy on the inside, and the red bean paste was soft and smooth. It was the best and most delicious umegae mochi I've ever had. The crispiness and fluffiness were just perfect! It seems that when they are wrapped in plastic, they tend to get soggy. This time, it was truly the best.

It's been a long time since I visited Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine. It must have been about 12 years. Memories are fleeting. The only thing I remember in the shrine grounds is the plum blossoms. Oh, I see a face of an old companion from my past visits. I wonder where we used to buy and eat umegae mochi. As I think about it, I head towards the back of the shrine. Since it's just past 9 o'clock, there are only a few shops open, so I decide to peek into this one. Inside, I see someone shaping umegae mochi by hand and carefully grilling it on a umegae mochi grill. Along the approach to the shrine, all I see are umegae mochi being made by machines, which disappoints me. I receive a complimentary tea. The freshly grilled umegae mochi is crispy and delicious. Thank you for the meal.

I received a gift from my parents after visiting Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine. They brought back some hot Amazake (sweet fermented rice drink) for me. Along the approach to the shrine, there were many shops selling Umeboshi (plum) rice cakes, and this was my first time trying the ones from Kagayaki-kan. I quickly prepared some tea and tried it. Although the outside had softened a bit, I imagine it would have been crispier when freshly baked. The sweet bean paste inside was subtly sweet and elegant. It was a perfect accompaniment to the delicious tea. Maybe if I lightly reheat it, the outside will become crispy again! Thank you for the meal!

Visited Dazaifu in January 2015 as part of a tour and stopped by this restaurant for lunch. Besides a souvenir corner, they also had table seating and tatami rooms where you could dine. It was a bit disappointing that the dishes did not feature local ingredients. I wish they had served the specialties of the region. The bonito soup was comforting and warmed me up. However, the tempura and simmered dish were a bit cold. They also offered plum konjac, plum burdock, and sweetened plums from the souvenir corner, which you could purchase if you liked them. For those who don't have time to search for a lunch spot, I recommend this place.

I used this restaurant during a business trip, and since it was a weekday, there were few people around the Tenmangu Shrine, so I was able to relax. I think this was my second time using this establishment. The last time was probably about 7-8 years ago... In the dining area behind the main shrine, there is a spacious tatami room where you can have a meal. From the approach to the back of the main shrine, there are quite a few shops selling umegae mochi. It's literally filled with umegae mochi (laughs). It's painful that the price has gone up to 120 yen per piece due to the increase in consumption tax, but there's nothing that can be done about it. The crucial thing is the taste - the crispy surface with a moist red bean paste inside, not too sweet, which is really good. It goes well with green tea. Whenever I come here, it's a must-buy. As a side note, there are ramen shops like Ichiran Dazaifu and Karakasa Dazaifu Ekimae on the approach, as well as stores selling spicy cod roe, which makes me very curious. The evaluation is based solely on the umegae mochi.

This is a tea shop located on the right side as soon as you enter the North Shin'en garden behind the main hall of Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine. On this day, the "Kokusui no En" event was held at Dazaifu, and I participated along with a Rotary Club exchange student. Despite the light rain, we enjoyed sitting in the tatami room and experiencing the world of Heian picture scrolls. I am grateful to all those involved who made this event possible. Before enjoying the Kokusui no En event, we first had lunch with a lovely bento box from Shoseikan. The bento box consisted mainly of Japanese dishes such as simmered root vegetables, tamagoyaki, and shiraae, which are healthy side dishes. Of course, a Japanese bento box wouldn't be complete without tempura, and there was also udon noodles on the side. I decided to top my udon with the tempura from the bento box and make it into Ebiten Udon. And for dessert, of course, there was "Ume-gaeshi Mochi" in the corner of the bento box. At the store, you can buy freshly baked Ume-gaeshi Mochi and various souvenirs from Dazaifu, so it's a must-visit shop when sightseeing in Dazaifu. The shop is located right after you pass through the main hall of Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine.
