8/12/2015 First visit Since the personnel change in April until today... I had never taken a full day off (^_^;) Today is the day I promised to go to Otaru Aquarium with my nephew♪ I picked up my nephew early in the morning and headed straight to Otaru!! Upon arrival, we walked around the aquarium as my nephew pleased. He absolutely loves feeding the seals and sea lions, so he ended up spending most of his allowance on feeding them (lol) Well, as long as he's having fun, that's all that matters, right? And then lunch. Since we still had to explore the aquarium, we decided to have lunch at the restaurant inside the aquarium. It was quite crowded, even though it was a weekday and close to lunchtime... We managed to find an available table and secured it. Then we lined up at the ticket machine. There were two machines, and it took about 10 minutes to buy the meal tickets (^_^;) I had a bad feeling about this type of cafeteria, so I decided to pass on the ramen. I chose the pork bowl (900 yen) instead... Expensive!! My nephew wanted soy sauce ramen (780 yen), so I bought that... Expensive!! My wife went to buy her meal ticket. She chose the hamburger plate, probably around 900 yen. Then she went to submit the tickets to the kitchen. We were given a number tag and waited to be called. It took about 15 minutes from submitting the tickets until all the dishes were ready. Anyway... the pork bowl was a disaster... There was just a small amount of pork on top of the rice!! And for 900 yen, it was the worst value for money. The ramen looked normal. Bad value for money as well. The hamburger plate was the same. It's understandable that prices are higher in tourist areas. At that time, I had accepted this fact. We started eating... First, my pork bowl. The amount of meat was small, but what surprised me more was the rice. Was this... rice cooked in a lunch box!? Hard and with a core-like texture. You don't encounter this often... At this point, the taste of the meat becomes irrelevant. As for my wife's hamburger plate, it definitely looked like a frozen hamburger from the store... This is terrible... My nephew couldn't eat directly from the bowl yet, so he transferred it to a small dish and ate from there. He didn't complain and ate as usual. But he couldn't finish it all by himself, so I joined in halfway. The result... this was the best (laughs) The spinach had a canned smell, but the soup and noodles were okay. I made a mistake... Ramen was the right choice from the beginning (^_^;) However, if we were to rate it like a regular ramen shop, the taste would barely get a 3.0, but since the value for money was bad, we couldn't give it a good score. Even in a tourist area, with an environment where customers enter quietly, this is unacceptable... The cafeteria on the seaside is much better. And if you have the time, it's definitely better to go outside the aquarium for a meal, even if it's a bit of a hassle. I think I will visit Otaru Aquarium again, so I vowed to take this as a lesson. The aquarium was fun, but the food was not good!! I will make sure to feed my nephew something tastier next time!! P.S. We also enjoyed exploring in the afternoon♪
