浜のゴジラ
From May 29th to June 8th, I had to work for 11 days in a row, with no time for eating out. After the 11-day stretch, I now face the heavy self-restraint on going out for the rest of June. A follower on Instagram posted a lovely photo of melon balls and cake from House An, which is operating as a dream season in Kitakyushu. The store is located in Asakawa, Yawata Nishi-ku, famous for its Asakawa choux, a popular souvenir from Kitakyushu. Even after moving to Fukuoka, I used to go all the way to Kitakyushu to buy the beloved Asakawa choux, but there is a branch in Kashii as well. However, it's too late now. The Atago choux from Sugar Bear in Niihama, near my house, is tastier than the Asakawa choux. That's House An for you. The store has expanded without me noticing, and now it has branches all over Fukuoka Prefecture. I was planning to go to Kashii to buy melon balls, but then I realized there is one in Ion Itoshima. The melon balls at the Fukutsu store on Instagram had both red and green, but at Ion Itoshima, they only had either red or green. I was asked which one I wanted, and even though there were plenty of green ones left, there was only one red one, so I bought the red one. The melon was firm, not as soft and juicy as I like, but still sweet and delicious. Beneath the fruit were sponge cake and custard cream. As expected from House An, known for Asakawa choux, the custard cream was undeniably delicious. I headed to Atago Beach to take a photo with the cake and Fukuoka Tower in the background. Surprisingly, there were quite a few people there, all looking at me curiously as I placed the cake on the pier for a photo. It's true, not many people take pictures with cake on the waterfront.
