Seiro Steamed Meal (upper) ¥3,700 Includes soup, salad, small side dishes, and pickles. Eel ham ¥1,700 Bone senbei (rice crackers) ¥600 There are about 4 tables on the 1st floor near the flowers, and the 2nd floor is about twice as spacious. The Seiro steamer is presented in a stacked box and served with a popping sound. It has a unique way of eating with sticky rice. The bone senbei was a generous portion and had good value. The ham was quite tasty, but when asked if it's a must-try, I would say it's not particularly special. In the end, the grilled dish looked the most delicious, so that solved everything.

The steamed eel on a bamboo steamer for lunch costs 4000 yen, which is quite expensive. The portion of eel is small even on the top, so I decided to order it. I tried it since it's a specialty. The eel was indeed steamed, so it wasn't greasy, but I think I prefer the regular eel dish. The value for money seems poor, probably due to tourist area prices. The tamagoyaki (rolled omelette) wasn't necessary. It reminded me of something I had in Nagasaki... The restaurant was clean and comfortable, and even though it was off-season, the view was enjoyable despite no boats passing by.

★October 8, 2022 Lunch★ [Me] Eel steamed in a bamboo steamer set meal (top) 3,800 yen [Da] Grilled eel set meal (top) 3,800 yen I suddenly decided to come to Yufu to eat eel because Da said so. There are many eel restaurants here, so I was unsure where to go, but I chose based on the scenery. Thank you for the delicious meal!

I bought a full enjoyment ticket for my first trip to Yanagawa in April 2022, including round-trip transportation, boat ride, and meals. I chose this place to visit. Upon arrival in Yanagawa, I called the restaurant on the second floor to make a reservation for 1 pm. I didn't specify a seat, but I heard you can see the boat ride from the second floor. After arriving in Yanagawa, I went to a souvenir shop, took a bus to the boat boarding point, and visited the Sanja Shrine before the boat ride. The boat ride was more enjoyable than I expected. Afterwards, I had an eel lunch at Shiraishi's birthplace. I was directed to my favorite spot, a window-side counter on the second floor. I ordered a bottle of beer for 660 yen, and with my ticket, I enjoyed steamed eel and eel bone crackers. The eel was deliciously fluffy, and the sauce-soaked rice was amazing. The salad and side dishes were also great. I brought my own sansho pepper and enjoyed the meal with a view of the boat ride, feeling excited. I thought the food was incredibly delicious and I would love to come back here. Thank you for the wonderful meal. Across the street, there was a famous restaurant with a long line.

I visited the restaurant on a holiday around 1 pm. I was recommended to go there by the owner of the tea house across the river. I was seated by the window on the second floor, with a nice view. I ordered the eel steamed lunch box (large). The appetizer and salad came out quickly, which was nice for my hungry stomach. About 10 minutes later, the eel arrived. Instead of white rice, it was served with mixed rice, which was a nice touch. The flavor was not overly sweet, just right. It was a great restaurant.

At the beginning of July, I bought eel at the Kanetsu Service Area (upward) and brought it home to microwave for 2 minutes. The eel was frozen, so it wasn't very delicious, but the rice had a sweet sauce soaked in and was tasty. There was also shredded egg on top of the eel. I can't remember the exact price, but it was probably less than ¥1500. I enjoyed a little luxury feeling at home.

The weather was not completely clear that day, and there were a few shops in Yanagawa that were closed for the day. I randomly entered this second-floor restaurant, and the seat by the window had a nice view. It wasn't too crowded, probably because it was a weekday, so it was nice and relaxing. I ordered the eel steamed in a bamboo steamer. It came with a salad, side dishes, and eel liver soup. The eel steamed dish wasn't too strong in flavor, and the portion was just right. It was delicious! The staff's service was also good.

Recently, my favorite hot spring facility is located in Yanagawa. On my way there alone, I decided to have eel for lunch. I head towards the Okiba area by car. This area is lined with eel restaurants on both sides of the moat. Located west of the tourist spot "O-Hana," you can see quite a few foreign tourists here. The road along the moat is one-way. Driving along, I first head to Man'ei-Do. The catchphrase on the wall of the shop "I want you to eat delicious eel" catches my eye. After passing by the shop, there is a parking lot about 20 meters ahead, with four spaces designated for the shop. There are available parking spaces. Decision made to visit here! (laughs) It seems like they renovated an old folk house. The interior of the shop has a modern Japanese style. There is a grilling area separated by glass on the first floor. You can see the craftsmen grilling eels with charcoal live. There were a few table seats on the first floor, but you are generally guided to the second floor. As I climb the stairs to the second floor, a staff member informs me, "The second floor is divided into tatami seating on one side and table seating on the other. Which would you prefer?" I take a peek at the table seating side, and there are no other customers. "Please choose any seat you like," they generously guide me. Naturally, the spacious table for four is nice, but I am visiting alone. I am not sure how crowded it will be later, so I sit at the counter seat along the window with restraint. There are six counter seats. The retro atmosphere is enhanced by the bamboo blinds attached to the window. When I sit down, the view is quite nice. I can see tourists passing by along the moat and boats for river cruises through the glass. While listening to jazz BGM and gazing at the outside scenery, I faintly sense the aroma unique to river fish from downstairs. After waiting for a while, the ordered "Jou Seiro Steamed Set (3,240 yen, tax included)" is brought to me. It consists of steamed eel, salad, two small dishes of uza...

We visited this restaurant on a company trip. We had a 3300 yen steamed dish. We were guided to a second-floor tatami room with a view of the outside moat. They also gave us bone senbei on our way out.

Enjoying a steamed eel while gazing at the river in Yanagawa. "Ban'ei-do" August 10, 2018 NEW! Theme: Kurume and Chikugo area Before heading to work in the Chikugo area... my senior colleague kindly treated me to steamed eel in Yanagawa, Okibata. It was Wednesday, so many places were closed for their regular holiday. Along the river, "Ban'ei-do" was open. It seems like they renovated an old folk house. The old beams on the ceiling... If you look down from the second floor, the river surface is beautiful. First, a salad and pickled vegetables appeared. Then, the steamed eel. It's been years since I had steamed eel... The eel is small but fluffy and delicious. It was a relaxing time and a nice feeling. If it wasn't before work, I would've had a beer... ● Shop Information Ban'ei-do 050-5594-3991 Inarimachi 13-5, Yanagawa City Business Hours: 11:00-21:00 Closed on Mondays

The interior of the restaurant had jazz music playing and modern design tables. I ordered the eel steamed rice set (large). Small dishes of vegetables and seafood mixed with salad were served. When the steamed eel arrived, it came with liver and pickles. The taste of the eel rice was mild and easy to eat for women. The amount of rice was also small. However, for men who want to eat a hearty portion of eel, it might be a bit lacking.

When it comes to Yanagawa, it's all about eel and steamed eel over rice! I ordered the special steamed eel at Mannendo near the river cruise. The rice is fluffy with delicious eel inside. The taste is light but just right in richness. It doesn't come with pickles, but it comes with a salad. The miso soup is liver soup! The atmosphere of the restaurant is also nice, and I was able to enjoy my meal in a calm setting.

I went on a river cruise in Yanagawa City for the first time in several years. The weather was nice and there were many tourists, making it lively. On this day, there was also a local festival with stalls, floats, and a warrior procession to enjoy. After the river cruise, it was time for lunch, and of course, the famous Yanagawa specialty of steamed eel in a steamer. Eel restaurants are scattered around the area near the end of the river cruise. The well-known famous shops have long lines and a wait of about an hour, so I visited this less crowded place. The first floor has only a few table seats, but on the second floor, there are table seats on the left side after going up the stairs, and tatami room seats on the right side, both allowing you to relax. The special steamed eel is satisfying as the eel is hidden inside the rice. Since it takes time to steam, it would be good to munch on eel bone senbei or fried eel bones while waiting. This is a delicious hidden gem restaurant where you can avoid waiting in line.
