This is an udon restaurant located near the intersection of Nakahashi-suji and Kitakyuhoujimachi-dori, within a 5-minute walk from Sakaisuji-Honmachi Station on the Osaka Metro. It is a popular restaurant operated by a long-established dried goods wholesaler. The restaurant has a system similar to a ramen shop, with a self-service ticket machine at the entrance. The udon served here is modern in presentation but authentic in taste. The signature dish, "Special Toriten Bukkake," features a generous portion of toriten (chicken tempura) on top of the noodles in a flavorful broth. The udon noodles have a shiny surface and a satisfying chewy texture, typical of Kansai-style udon. The tempura is freshly made with a delicious balance of meatiness and crispy batter. Overall, the quality of the food is high, and the portion size is satisfying. I look forward to trying their warm udon on my next visit.

Arrived at 2:35 p.m. on Friday and purchased a meal ticket at the ticket machine. Ordered the Donburi (cold) set for 980 yen, which came with a choice of toppings - I chose the Tempura Chicken on Rice Bowl set. Unfortunately, they were out of the Shrimp Tempura Donburi that I wanted, so I settled for the Chicken Tempura Donburi. The restaurant had a counter with 8 seats and there were 4 customers present. The udon arrived 5 minutes later, followed by the rice bowl a couple of minutes after. The udon noodles were slightly thick and firm, lacking in chewiness but with a strong texture. The broth was not as rich as it appeared, but had a good dashi flavor. The tempura had a thin crispy coating. The rice bowl was a generous portion with plenty of chicken tempura in a savory sauce. The udon noodles were hearty yet delicate. I was disappointed that they were sold out of the Shrimp Tempura Donburi I had been looking forward to. It's advisable to ask about the availability of the rice bowl topping before purchasing the meal ticket.

I arrived about 15 minutes early because it said it would open at 11:00. The shop opened a little after 11:00, but the owner was just calmly preparing and I wished they had said something like "sorry for the wait". I ordered the Chicken Tempura Udon for 850 yen with a 150 yen topping of a soft-boiled egg. I also ordered the Ikura (salmon roe) Soft-Boiled Egg Rice for 620 yen. The noodles were quite firm and chewy, and the broth was on the salty side, making it a bit too salty for my taste. They provided wasabi as a condiment, but honestly, ginger would have been better for the tempura udon. The Ikura Soft-Boiled Egg Rice had a strong flavor and the rice was perfectly cooked, making it delicious. This is a must-order dish. Thank you for the meal. The owner was running the shop alone and I understand the need to be quick, but the attitude was quite arrogant, and there was a lot of loud clattering noises during the cooking process, which made me jump every time there was a loud noise. I chose to eat here out of all the udon shops, but I left feeling very disappointed.

I used this restaurant for the first time at the end of August, and I couldn't wait to come back within a month! When I arrived close to closing time on a weekday around 8 pm, there were only two groups in the restaurant. Lucky me! I ordered the chilled set with warm egg and salmon roe bowl for 1050 yen, which I had been curious about. Last time, I couldn't fully enjoy it during lunch because it was so hot, but today I was able to relax and savor the firmness and richness of the udon noodles. The salmon roe bowl was a small but luxurious dish, just the right size when paired with the udon noodles. Unlike the hectic atmosphere during daytime, the owner was friendly and engaging with customers in a calm manner. I even saw him speaking in English with some foreign customers, creating a heartwarming atmosphere for the meal.

On my first visit, I ordered the ikura oyakodon and tori tempura with a photo on the ticket machine. Although I usually enjoy savoring the broth, the hot weather made me opt for cold udon instead. The udon had a firm texture with a rich umami flavor. The ikura oyakodon was simply delicious. Next time, I will definitely try the kake udon.

Even though it was hot today, I waited in line. I got a set of shrimp tempura rice bowl and tempura with warm egg over noodles with extra noodles. Luckily, they ran out of shrimp right after I ordered. The noodles were thick with a strong, wasabi-infused broth. The tempura was also delicious. However, the extra noodles in the set were a bit too much. Maybe next time I'll go for the classic chicken tempura over noodles?

Chicken tempura udon for ¥850 and Medicinal curry udon for ¥900 (with onsen tamago and koshihikari rice). Although the name of the dish is not mentioned due to regional customs, this is what is commonly known as udon with a chewy texture. The udon is glossy and can be easily swallowed. I prefer it to be firm, which is delicious. The broth is amazing! Rich and sharp!! The freshly fried chicken tempura is crispy and hot, which is wonderful. It's a great dish that can be found in both Shikoku and Kyushu. And I also want to try the curry udon... The Medicinal curry udon is (๑˃̵ᴗ˂̵) As it is advertised as medicinal, it is not just a spicy curry, but also includes various Chinese herbs that seem good for the body. With a runny egg on top, the curry udon has a slightly luxurious feel, making me feel happy. I mixed the remaining curry with Sasashiniki rice and finished it all! Thank you for the meal!

I visited "Honmachi Seimenjo," located a 6-minute walk from Honmachi Station on the Osaka Metro (about 7 minutes from Sakaisuji Honmachi Station). Despite arriving before 3 pm, there was still a line with one person ahead of me, indicating its continued popularity. The restaurant operates with only one staff member, so they try not to fill up all the seats at once. It was a hot day, so I decided to order the famous "Chicken Tempura Udon" for a cold dish. The dish consisted of two pieces of chicken tempura, mushroom tempura, and udon noodles with a soy-based broth poured over it. However, I found the udon noodles in the "Chicken Tempura Udon" I had this time were not as cold as they should be when rinsed in cold water, and the noodles lacked the desired firmness. Additionally, the soy-based broth lacked the depth of flavor compared to a warm udon broth with bonito essence. Unfortunately, the "Chicken Tempura Udon" I had that day left me feeling a bit disappointed (I might have been even more disappointed if I had waited longer).

I arrived near Honmachi around 11:30 and was lucky to get in without waiting in line. I chose the jukkofun (small fish rice) since the tempura bowl takes a bit of time, and it was also delicious. The udon noodles were glossy and had a good texture, enjoyable to eat. The chikuwa tempura had a flavor I liked as well. Thank you for the meal.

I went at 2 o'clock and waited in line for about an hour. There were many foreign customers, so the turnover rate was slow. Maybe it's better to visit close to closing time... I ordered the seafood bowl set, but when it comes to waiting in line to eat it... I was left with a feeling of uncertainty. Thank you for the meal.

This is the list of the top 100 restaurants in Sakaisuji-Honmachi for 2022. When I arrived around 7:30 pm on a weekday, there was only one foreign customer and three customers inside. The restaurant has only 8 counter seats. I ordered the customizable bowl set (cold) for 980 yen from the ticket machine located on the right side of the entrance. Since the only options for the bowl were chicken tempura, soft-boiled egg, or bonito, I chose bonito. In about 5 minutes, I was served with chikuwa tempura udon (cold) and soft-boiled egg bonito rice. The shiny black broth, made with rich dashi using bonito flakes and kombu, blended with domestically grown wheat noodles that have a chewy texture. The noodles had a stronger firmness compared to Kyutaro's. The chikuwa tempura was crispy with a thin batter, and when dipped in the broth, it brought out the deliciousness of the tempura even more. The soft-boiled egg rice paired well with the bonito flakes, and you could feel the attention to detail in the individual grains of rice. Despite its simplicity, it was incredibly delicious.

I have been living in Osaka for a year and a half, and I haven't explored many udon shops yet. I did get a feel for curry shops, so now I'm going to start exploring udon shops. My first stop was here. I went on a weekday at 11 am, and I was the first customer of the day. By the time I finished, there were five people waiting to get in. It was cloudy today, so I managed to wait, but waiting for 30 minutes under the scorching sun might be tough. I got in around 11:30 am and ordered a set of cold tempura udon and shrimp tempura don. The udon had a great texture and the broth was rich and delicious, just as the reviews said. Since it was a weekday, there were only salarymen around, and the somewhat gruff atmosphere created by the owner gave the place a bit of a battlefield vibe, which wasn't bad. When a regular customer started a conversation, I was surprised to see that the owner was actually quite friendly. I think I've found my first favorite udon shop in Osaka.

I arrived around 14:30 on Friday! There were many tourists and I waited for about 20 minutes in line, being the second in line. An energetic older man was running the place by himself! The cold plum and seaweed udon was delicious to the point where the broth was blowing away...! The noodles had a nice texture and I want to try other menu items as well. I will definitely visit again!

Donburi set (Bamboo tempura on cold udon, Chicken tempura rice bowl) for 980 yen. The udon noodles have a nice chewy texture and the broth is well-known, but the sweetness seems to overpower the broth. Despite waiting for 30 minutes in the scorching heat, the ice-cold udon noodles were just right, but the flavor is quite strong so I couldn't finish it all at once. The chicken tempura is crispy on the outside and juicy inside, and there are quite a few pieces, so I was full. This dish also has a slightly strong flavor. The table condiment, a kind of seven-spice blend with sansho pepper, is excellent. It tastes great sprinkled on the udon or on the chicken tempura.

The tempura rice bowl with a soft-boiled egg was good, but adding chicken tempura for 1,200 yen was a bit pricey. The restaurant is understaffed, with only one person handling everything and a ticket machine for orders, leading to slow service. The owner seemed flustered and disorganized. Hiring another staff member could improve efficiency and serve more customers. It was questionable to prioritize the order of a Japanese customer who was in a rush over other customers who were there first. However, the udon noodles were authentic and delicious, with a great texture and flavorful broth. The chicken tempura was especially tasty, with a rich chicken flavor that stood out on its own.

I arrived at 11:30 and found 5 people waiting in front of the shop. I had to wait 20 minutes to place my order. The shop has only 7 counter seats and is run by one chef, so the turnover is slow and there is always a line. I ordered the great value set of cold bamboo tempura udon and shrimp tempura bowl (980 yen including tax). The udon was very chewy with a great texture and delicious. The tempura is fried after you order, so it's definitely tasty. The quality, portion size, and satisfaction level for 980 yen is unbelievably good. When I left, there were 12 people waiting. The last person in line will have to wait quite a while. [Note] The ticket machine only accepts 1000 yen bills, and they don't provide change, so if you don't have a 1000 yen bill or coins, you might not be able to eat.

This time, I visited this shop for the first time after it opened at around 11 am, but the store was already full and there were a few people waiting in line! After waiting for 20 minutes, I finally got in! Yay! Here are the menu items I tried this time: - Chicken Tempura Curry Udon (*served with mini white rice) - Shrimp Tempura Small Bowl Points to try: 1. The "Curry Udon" is made with a special broth and spices, without the thickness of curry roux, allowing you to enjoy the harmony with the fluffy chicken tempura. According to the shop owner, first enjoy the "chicken tempura and noodles", and then enjoy the "white rice, soft-boiled egg, and curry" at your favorite timing. 2. The "Shrimp Tempura Small Bowl" allows you to enjoy the plump shrimp tempura and onion tempura from Awaji Island. 3. You can enjoy "Rooibos Tea", which is good for beauty and health, throughout your meal. Overall impression: As someone who loves spicy curry, I found a curry udon at this shop that made me want to eat it again! If you're curious, be sure to give it a try!

A store where there is a line before it even opens. It's recommended to go early. The price of udon is relatively cheap, and you get a lot for your money. The amount of udon noodles is generous, and it may be a bit too much for women. Also, the chicken tempura is delicious and comes in a generous portion, which is great.

Udon WEST, selected as one of the top 100 udon shops in Western Japan in the 2022 Udon Log rankings, ranked 72nd out of 100 with an overall rating of 3.72. I visited on Wednesday, July 5, 2023, at 6:55 pm. I ordered: - Cold plum and seaweed udon for 820 yen - Chicken tempura udon for 850 yen - Salmon roe and soft-boiled egg rice bowl for 620 yen When I arrived at the restaurant, there was no wait to get in. It's a small place with only counter seats, and it was almost full when we sat down. It seems like the shop is run by a dried goods wholesaler, and their specialty is the broth. They recommended the hot menu items because of the broth's strong flavor, but since it's been hot lately, I ordered cold dishes. I didn't have high expectations for the noodles since the broth was the highlight, but I was wrong! The noodles were delicious - smooth, chewy, and had a firm texture. The broth for both the cold and hot dishes was rich in bonito flakes, as they advertised. The flavor was unique compared to other shops! The chicken tempura was also very tender and juicy, living up to the reputation of being one of the top 100 udon shops. And the moment I opened the lid of the mountain pepper on the table, a fantastic aroma filled the air! Instead of barley tea, they served rooibos tea, showing their attention to detail. I also tried the "Salmon roe and soft-boiled egg rice bowl" because it looked appealing, and it was not just about the appearance! I was skeptical about the combination of salmon roe and soft-boiled egg, but the bonito flakes added a perfect touch, making it incredibly delicious! This dish is highly recommended as a side menu item. The service was also excellent. I was impressed by the quality of the bonito flakes from the long-established dried goods wholesaler.

Between Honmachi and Sakaisuji Honmachi, on Nakabashi Street, there is a hand-made udon restaurant called "Honmachi Seimenjo" with a rating of 3.7 on Tabelog. During this season, they are serving cold dishes, and I tried the Cold Take-Ten Tempura Udon with a choice of toppings (shrimp tempura, small dried fish tempura, or chicken tempura) with shrimp as my choice for 980 yen. The udon noodles arrived first, made with delicious broth from Kuromon Yamachoshoten's bonito flakes and savory soy sauce, with a nice chewy texture. Next, a small bowl topped with two sweet onion tempura pieces was served. The place got busy quickly after opening at 11 am, with a wait of 3 to 5 people by the time we finished. The owner, who has a unique charm, seems like a friendly old man. It was delicious!

This shop seems to be popular for its affordable and popular udon and rice bowl set. It is a one-person operation with only a counter, where you purchase food tickets. Each dish, including tempura, is fried to order, so you can enjoy freshly made food. I recommend the wakame udon, which is full of seaweed and has soft udon noodles.
