It was a week where I had been eating rice dishes continuously during the day, so having a tofu beef bowl instead of rice was a welcome change. The bowl contained lettuce, onions, broccoli, and corn along with the tofu. The sauce was a mix of ponzu and a beef stew sauce, creating a complex flavor profile. While tofu is often used in dishes like sukiyaki, the combination with ponzu sauce made the taste a bit confusing. The vegetables would have been fine with just ponzu, but the beef stew sauce added a conflicting element. The bowl had layers of beef, vegetables, and tofu, with the lower two layers being influenced by the conflicting flavors of the beef stew sauce and ponzu.

I had the Sukiya beef bowl mini with extra sauce and egg, oshinko, miso soup set, pork ginger plate, and okra salad for the first time in a while. The pork ginger plate was just okay, it's a new item after all (lol). The beef bowl mini was just the right size, it was good. As expected, the beef bowl is always great!

Until the end of October, there is a VISA Touch campaign at Sukiya, where you can get a 50% cashback when you use a card with the VISA Touch logo. Going back to basics, the "Gyudon Mini" (290 yen) paired with Gyudon becomes even cheaper with the "Clam Soup and Pickles Limited Set" (220 yen), which is now 255 yen with VISA Touch. It's such a great deal! However, I noticed that the clam soup had 9 clams this time, while it used to have 11 clams before. It's like what Kamaitachi's Yamashita would say, not getting your money's worth. Yamashita is known for doing things like messing up the unused bed in a Twin room provided by TV stations for hotel staff or leaving an empty coffee can on the table in the dressing room for the AD to clean up, even though he didn't invest in those things. It seems like his way of getting his money's worth. Enjoyed a delicious Gyudon with plenty of sauce using VISA Touch, satisfied my hunger, and had a great meal.

While waiting for a regular check-up at the nearby car dealer, I usually fill my stomach with the familiar set meal. At Sukiya, depending on the year and season, they offer a variety of menu items such as eel and curry, but when I find it too troublesome to decide, I always end up ordering the regular beef bowl with extra sauce, topped with egg, pickles, and miso soup set (laughs). Even though it's the same chain within Tokyo's Suginami ward (like the Koenji or Ogikubo branches), I feel like the way they cook the rice and the amount of sauce can vary slightly, but this combination is still top-notch. Lately, they have a dedicated cash register system for payments, but even for someone like me who's not used to it, they kindly instruct me through the vinyl curtain, saying "Please insert the money here."

Date: 5/22/2018 (Tue) 20:30 First customers: 6, Later customers: 0 Caesar Lettuce Gyudon (Large): 630 yen I visited this restaurant for the first time in about 8 months. I was interested in the "Caesar Lettuce Gyudon" at Sukiya, which was a hot topic on 2channel. At first glance, it may seem like a silly menu, but it seems to be surprisingly delicious. It's similar to the idea of Matsuya putting French dressing on their gyudon. The dish is colorful with lettuce, green leaf, red bell pepper, and bacon on top of the gyudon. It is finished with original Caesar sauce and Parmesan cheese, creating a rich aroma. When I tried it, it wasn't bad and there was no discomfort. However, it didn't have as much impact as I expected, and adding a salad didn't dramatically increase the deliciousness. Gyudon itself is not a very punchy dish, so combining it with a salad that is also not very punchy doesn't change the direction significantly. The only advantage may be that you can get a balanced intake of both meat and vegetables. But I felt that I would be more satisfied just eating a regular salad. Located along Inokashira Street, on the way from Kichijoji to Nishi-Ogikubo, there is a Sukiya restaurant. The parking lot was full on the Sunday afternoon I visited, probably because it was raining and everyone was using their cars. The staff at this location didn't leave a good impression, but then again, I've rarely encountered a Sukiya with great service or customer service. JAF members can get a 30 yen discount on their purchase. The beef bowl here also has a strong flavor, probably to mask the cheapness and smell of the meat, but the seasoning is good. The rice just keeps disappearing, and from the perspective of filling your stomach, the cost performance is too good.

At 6:30 PM on September 30, three customers arrived first, followed by four customers. They ordered the grated ponzu pork plate set meal for 610 yen. We discovered a Sukiya at the end of Inokashira Street. It's almost in Nishi-Ogikubo, but technically it's still listed under Kichijoji. It's a bit of a walk from Kichijoji Station, taking about 15 to 20 minutes, so it can be a bit tiring. There is a parking lot, so it may be convenient to go by car. It seems less crowded than the Kichijoji Minami-guchi store, but with only one person each in the hall and kitchen, you may have to wait a bit. Despite that, we ordered the grated ponzu pork plate set meal. It comes with pork plate, rice, pickles, and miso soup for 610 yen. It was great that there was a lot of grated daikon, but it was disappointing that the miso soup was too bad. By the way, I just realized, but in the case of Sukiya, the pork bowl is called "tondon."
