Last year, I visited Kochi Prefecture for the first time and was amazed by the deliciousness of "Tosa Akauushi" that I tried at Petit Veil in Hirome Market. I had heard that it is not easy to find outside of Kochi Prefecture due to its low distribution, but I didn't give up and searched for a restaurant that serves Tosa Akauushi in Osaka. And I found one! So, I made a reservation and visited the restaurant.
1. Exterior, atmosphere, interior of the restaurant:
Located about a 5-minute walk from Higashi-Yodogawa Station and easily accessible from Higashi-Mikuni Station as well. It is situated in a shopping street with many individually operated eateries and retail stores. The signboard outside boldly displays words like "Lava Grilled," "Phantom Wagyu Red Meat," and "Most Delicious." The restaurant seems newly opened and the interior is very clean and fresh. In addition to table seating, there is a spacious counter seat facing the kitchen, making it comfortable for solo diners. The cute cow-themed utensil holders and plates are also adorable and make you want to take them home.
2. About the food:
We ordered the following items after consulting with my companion:
- "Petit Veil Assorted Appetizers (small)" which includes homemade pickles, chicken liver and walnut pate, Spanish ham with carrot rapé, and organic anchovy cabbage. The quantity and variety for 1,480 yen is quite impressive.
- "Tosa Akauushi Tomato Stew and Mashed Potato Mozzarella Gratin" which had a perfect balance of tender Akauushi, fresh tomato acidity, and savory mozzarella.
- "Assorted Steak Cut End Pieces Steak" which is a great deal at 1,380 yen for 100g and allows you to enjoy various cuts of Tosa Akauushi.
- "Akauushi Seared Meat Sushi" with caviar and sea urchin toppings, which was a luxurious treat.
- We also received a complimentary slice of "Forbidden Roast Beef" which was moist and paired well with red wine.
3. Staff service:
The service was excellent with a lovely lady managing the floor with a smile and providing clear explanations of the dishes and wines. The chef, who seemed busy in the kitchen, also took the time to talk about Akauushi and other ingredients, showing a warm and welcoming attitude.
4. Value for money:
We thoroughly enjoyed the charm of Tosa Akauushi and found the other dishes to be equally delicious. The restaurant's cheerful atmosphere, friendly service from the staff, and overall dining experience made it worth the price.
5. Overall impression:
I had a great time savoring the delicious Tosa Akauushi and other dishes at the restaurant. The warm atmosphere, attentive service, and the chef's dedication to quality cooking all contributed to a memorable dining experience.
