I want to try sushi at various restaurants, so I drove around and found a sushi restaurant in Oogawa City a few days ago. The sign in front of the store caught my attention, so I decided to visit another day, but the 44 km one-way distance was still far. This time, the location was in Nakakoga, Oogawa City, Fukuoka Prefecture, along the Chikugo River. I visited on a weekday just after 12 pm. The restaurant was not very spacious, with counter seats and three raised tatami rooms. I sat at the counter and ordered the sushi set meal for 1000 yen including tax, which is only available for lunch. While waiting for the meal, elderly women customers kept coming in one after another, and the raised tatami rooms quickly filled up. The couple in their 50s who owned the restaurant seemed busy. The meal was served. The nigiri included tuna, squid, shrimp, scallop, and fresh mackerel. The scallop was particularly large. When I dipped the mackerel in soy sauce, the fat spread on the surface of the soy sauce. It was really fatty. It's that time of year again. From now on, it's the peak season for sushi. Everything tasted delicious, including one inari sushi and one lettuce mayo roll served as sides. Of course, I was delighted with all the sushi. The side dishes included simmered sea bream, lightly salted grilled salmon, rolled omelette, and one piece of fried chicken. The side dishes were also perfectly seasoned, and I couldn't help but smile. The simmered shrimp, konjac, green beans, taro, and thick fried tofu in the mixed dish were also seasoned perfectly. There's more. The half-sized chawanmushi included fish slices, peeled shrimp, and kamaboko. I had no complaints even though it only had three ingredients. The soup had five small clams in it, and since the clams were small, it was difficult to pick out the meat, so I just slurped the soup. All of this for 1000 yen. If you see this review, there should definitely be someone who wants to go. As expected, if you look for it, there are good places out there. It was the right decision to find this restaurant. I was able to leave the restaurant feeling good after a long time because the prices were reasonable.

Sushikawa - Affordable and Authentic Sushi Restaurant for Everyday Use In the local town of Okawa, there are quite a few sushi restaurants, but being on a budget, it's not always easy to find a good one. However, through a friend's recommendation, I heard about a place where you can enjoy affordable and delicious sushi. Located on Route 47 along the Chikugo River, connecting Okawa City to Jōjima Town, is Sushikawa. It's a traditional sushi restaurant that has been around for almost 40 years. The restaurant has a formal and traditional atmosphere, with a counter on the left side and private rooms on the right. The wooden menu is solid and exudes a sense of quality. And the prices are surprisingly affordable for a sushi restaurant - ¥800, ¥1,300, and ¥1,800 for regular, medium, and premium sushi sets. In addition to sushi, they also offer a variety of side dishes. We started with a soft-boiled octopus appetizer, followed by dishes like deep-fried eggplant, assorted tempura, scallop salad, and seasonal dishes like oyster fry. Each dish was delicious and well-prepared, showcasing the restaurant's commitment to quality seafood. For the main course, we opted for the chef's choice sushi set, which included an array of fresh and flavorful sushi pieces. The saba (mackerel) and kaibashira (scallop) were particularly impressive, offering a perfect balance of freshness and taste. Overall, Sushikawa offers high-quality sushi at affordable prices, making it a great option for casual dining. The restaurant's attention to detail and commitment to serving fresh and delicious seafood make it a must-visit spot for sushi lovers.

Located at the western edge of Oogawa City, a little north of Route 208 along Prefectural Road 47 along the Chikugo River, this restaurant is clean and has a welcoming atmosphere. I visited with a group of 5 on a Sunday night around 7 pm after making a reservation. I ordered the medium nigiri sushi set which came with tuna, sea bream, shrimp, squid, octopus, salmon, sea urchin, and snow crab, along with tamago. The rice was slightly firm and the vinegar was subtle, making for a light and balanced taste. The quality of the fish was fresh and the portion sizes were satisfying. The cost performance was great, especially considering the miso soup included in the set. My companion ordered the premium chirashi sushi which was filled with sea urchin, squid, shrimp, sea bream, yellowtail, scallop, tamago, and more. We also shared a tempura assortment and various rolls. The service was a bit slow due to a large group dining before us, but the staff was very accommodating and provided additional service. Overall, the sushi restaurants in the area offer good value for money and quality dishes.
