I went to Fukuoka to participate in the Drift King's Wonderland event! I had prepared a list of delicious restaurants from a colleague who is from Fukuoka, so I headed straight to Isogai-san. There were many fish names on the menu that I don't often hear in Tokyo (maybe I just don't know them, haha), so I asked the staff a lot of questions while ordering. I also ordered the tamagoyaki with mentaiko, which my high school classmate from Sapporo insisted we try since we were in Fukuoka, and it was incredibly delicious! The squid sashimi that I had also decided to try was really tasty and satisfying. The sweet soy sauce was surprisingly delicious once I got used to it. We visited the restaurant after the live show, so it was already past 9 p.m. when we arrived, and two women with towels around their necks, indicating they had also attended the same live show, came in after us. The restaurant was very lively and fun!

When I went back to my hometown, I wanted to eat delicious fish in Fukuoka! I loved Isogai in Fujisaki, but is this also a related store? When I entered, there were counter seats surrounding the kitchen and several table seats. We arrived around 6 pm, so it wasn't too crowded, but by the time we left, it was full. The recommended dish is the sashimi platter. We visited as a couple, and there was quite a lot of food, very fresh and delicious. The Fukuoka's nerve-removed fish had a firm texture and was very satisfying! The sesame mackerel also had a good amount of oil, and paired with sweet soy sauce, it went well with beer. The recommended menu item near our table, the abalone butter sauté, was also excellent. We ate and drank to our heart's content, and the bill came out to around 16,000 yen for two people. It may be a bit extravagant, but for those who want to eat delicious fish in Fukuoka, I highly recommend this restaurant!

I visited Robata-yaki Isogai in Imazumi, Fukuoka City. It is located very close to Nishitetsu Fukuoka Station. Although they used to only open at night, I saw a lunch sign and decided to visit. It is a seafood restaurant, but I opted for chicken instead. I ordered the Cold Chicken Nanban (880 yen), which was a bit pricey. Rice refill costs an additional 100 yen. I thought it would be freshly fried, but the chicken came in a container and I had to transfer it onto a plate. It lacked acidity and was on the sweeter side. The batter was soggy from being soaked for too long. The staff were all sitting and chatting, seemingly busy. Overall, it was disappointing. Thank you for the meal.

I had the sesame sauce yellowtail set meal. It was delicious when dipped in Isogai's special sesame sauce. The sashimi was very tasty. During lunchtime, only set meals are available. Other side dishes seem to be part of the dinner menu. When I went, only female staff were in the dining area, while two men were in the kitchen. They seemed busy, as they forgot to bring me water when I asked for it. The sashimi dishes arrived quickly, but the seared bonito set meal took longer. The set meal for my companion arrived just as I was finishing my meal. I bought some Isogai sesame sauce to take home.

A typical izakaya that serves delicious fish. I was a bit worried about the service based on other people's reviews, but it was fine. No issues. The miso simmered sea bream, shirasu dashimaki tamago, young sweetfish tempura, fried burdock, garlic cheese sweet potato, and more were all delicious, not just the fish. Thank you for the meal!

The restaurant is a popular izakaya with its main store in Fujisaki. They have also expanded to Tenjin. Their fish dishes are delicious, and before the pandemic, it was a crowded izakaya where reservations were essential. I had tried to go a few times but failed. After the pandemic, they seemed to have started serving lunch without me noticing. I was looking forward to it since I couldn't go at night. The menu is mainly focused on fish dishes. Today's menu featured all-natural fish starting at 800 yen. I ordered the local specialty sesame mackerel set meal. The dishes were served together on one tray, including rice, miso soup, side dishes, and pickles. The main dish, sesame mackerel, was soaked well in a slightly sweet sauce that complemented the rice. The miso soup had plenty of delicious roasted dried seaweed. The portion size was decent. I am not sure until when they will be serving lunch, but the content seems to be something that working people would enjoy. I was able to see the evening menu as well, so I am looking forward to it in the future.

A popular izakaya specializing in seafood with its main store in Fujisaki. When I first moved to Hakata, I was recommended to try "Isogai" a few times by a friend. I happened to come across it while walking by a building in Imaizumi where many restaurants and bars are located. The lunch menu caught my eye, and even though they didn't have the "Nakaochi Don" today, I decided to go for the "Tuna Sashimi Set Meal" (800 yen including tax) which turned out to be the right choice. When the dish was served, I couldn't help but exclaim at how beautiful the tuna looked. It was a pleasant surprise as I wasn't expecting much for 800 yen. The tuna was delicious, and I enjoyed the meal. The set meal also included some seaweed vinegar, a small portion of boiled squid, and miso soup with seaweed and green onions. Overall, I felt the satisfaction of enjoying high-quality seafood at this well-established izakaya. I was told that the lunch menu will continue for a while, so I might come back for this delicious tuna again.

Fujisaki Isogai. It has been very popular for about 20 years, and I lined up a few times back then. I happened to pass by Tenjin Isogai. Even though it's Isogai, I had chicken cutlet. I was drawn to the tartar sauce. I want to come at night after the corona is over. Maybe I'll challenge the fish lunch before that.

While looking for a place to have a daytime drink, I saw a sign outside that said "Can drink during the day" so I went in. I ordered a beer and looked at the food menu, but was told in a cold manner, "We only serve lunch sets!" I had no choice but to order the set meal, and while chatting and drinking, the lights on the table were turned off. When I first entered, I was told under their breath, "This might take a while..." which made me wonder if turning off the lights was a signal for me to leave early. The food might be delicious, but the service was questionable. I will not be going back.

I visited this place craving for champon because of my hangover. The champon here had plenty of ingredients like dried seaweed, bean sprouts, cabbage, carrots, snow peas, wood ear mushrooms, onions, red kamaboko, pork, clams, shrimp, and squid, all in a seafood broth with a strong flavor of dried seaweed. The thin noodles were easy to eat and I was pleasantly surprised to find homemade coleslaw in the champon, which tasted great. The soup was a bit rich, but I couldn't help but finish it all. It felt soothing to my tired stomach and liver from the hangover. I would love to have it with some white rice if I was hungry.

I had been wanting to visit this restaurant for a while but never got the chance. I was drawn in by the sign for the Ara Daki set meal, so I decided to give it a try. I ordered the large serving of rice, which was free. The meal arrived in about 5 minutes and it was quite a generous portion. I took a bite and it was delicious! It was a bit disappointing that it had cooled down a bit, but it was seriously tasty. There were about 10 different set meals, all priced at 800 yen each. I'm already thinking about what to try next time I visit. I am full and satisfied. Thank you for the meal.

I have passed by this place several times, but this was my first time actually dining here. I was pleasantly surprised by the menu options, especially the delicious fish dishes. However, I was disappointed that many items I tried to order were sold out, even though I arrived shortly after the 5:30 opening time. It seemed like they were out of stock. It would be helpful if they could remove unavailable items from the menu recommendations. The mentaiko tamagoyaki was also very tasty, with a good amount of seaweed. The staff, except for the manager, were all from Southeast Asia and there were some communication issues, with mistakes in orders and delivery to the wrong table. It's best to double-check your order and what is being served each time. While I appreciate the diversity in hiring foreign staff, I hope they receive better training. Overall, thank you for the meal.

Due to the main branch of Fujisaki store being closed, I visited the Tenjin store instead! As it is a popular place, I made a reservation just in case. When I arrived at the restaurant, I saw a notice saying that they are currently only accepting reservations, so I was glad I had made one! I wanted to eat fish, so I ordered the popular dish called miso-grilled fish. The miso flavor was not too strong, which was good as it did not overpower the taste of the fish! The vegetables, especially the green peppers, were excellent - I wanted to eat another one. The mentaiko (spicy cod roe) roll with nori (seaweed) was delicious, and the jumbo shrimp salt-grilled dish was fluffy and tasty. And finally, the uni (sea urchin) and ikura (salmon roe) rice bowl with a raw egg on top was amazing! I mixed it all together and enjoyed every bite! Next time, I will make sure to visit the main branch!

I went to Isogai Tenjin store on May 26, 2020. It is located in the Nishitetsu Imaizumi Building where places like Oomori Shokudo and Kochisoba are also located. I was surprised to find out that they also serve lunch, as I thought they only operated at night. The lunch menu consists of 6 items priced at 800 yen each, all inclusive. Isogai is known for their delicious fish dishes, so I ordered the sesame soy sauce fish bowl for 800 yen. They also offer curry. Due to the impact of the coronavirus, the restaurant was still not very crowded. I asked how long they plan to continue serving lunch, and they mentioned that they started in February before the coronavirus outbreak, so they plan to continue even after it ends. The fish bowl I ordered was beautifully presented with warm rice topped with tamagoyaki, cucumber, sesame seeds, and diced sashimi. It also came with side dishes like marinated salmon, miso soup, sesame sauce, and raw egg yolk. You mix the egg yolk in the center and drizzle the sesame sauce around the bowl before eating. The tobiko had a nice popping texture, and the crispy cucumber added a great crunch. It was incredibly delicious for the price of 800 yen, with a generous portion of rice that would satisfy even male customers. I look forward to trying their chicken cutlet next time. In 1989 (Heisei 1), the seafood izakaya "Hakata Gyoka Isogai" opened in Fukuoka City's Sawara Ward, Fujisaki. It has since expanded to various genres such as sushi, robatayaki, izakaya, and bar, but maintains the local seafood izakaya style typical of Fukuoka. The Tenjin branch is located in the heart of Tenjin, just a few minutes' walk from Nishitetsu Fukuoka (Tenjin) Station and Tenjin Minami Subway Station, making it easily accessible. I thought it was only open for dinner, but they have been offering lunch service on weekdays since February. The menu is diverse, featuring meat, fish, vegetables, and curry. They offer dishes such as Chicken Cutlet Set (Demiglace/Tartar) for 800 yen, Aradaki Set for 800 yen, Seafood Sesame Soy Sauce Bowl for 800 yen, Itoshima Vegetable Salad Set for 800 yen, Charcoal-Grilled Salted Mackerel Set for 800 yen, and Sri Lankan Curry for 800 yen. *All prices include tax. They also offer takeout bento boxes. The special fried chicken bento box from the seafood izakaya is priced at one coin. This time, I dined in and tried the Sri Lankan Curry for 800 yen. The kitchen counter had a staff member who appeared to be Sri Lankan. The Sri Lankan Curry is a one-plate meal of authentic chunky chicken curry with tuna salad, potato salad, vegetable salad, boiled egg, and for some reason, pickled mustard greens, with kelp tsukudani topping the rice. It was indeed a "Sri Lankan staff's assorted curry meal at an izakaya" as expected. It's not like the mixed dishes at Sri Lankan cuisine specialty stores, but more like a curry one-plate meal. The chicken curry, which is simmered with large chunks, along with tuna salad, potato salad, vegetable salad, boiled egg, and spicy pickled mustard greens, was delicious and went well with Japanese rice. My colleague had the Seafood Sesame Soy Sauce Bowl for 800 yen, which was topped with diced mixed sashimi. It came with miso soup, a side dish of nanbanzuke, and pickles. Mix the sesame dressing with egg yolk and pour it over the seafood bowl for a flavorful and easy-to-eat dish. It's an ideal seafood bowl that blends well with rice. The male office workers seemed to enjoy the Chicken Cutlet with Demiglace sauce as well. Thank you for the meal. I look forward to visiting again at night.

I used this restaurant during my business trip to Fukuoka. The staff consisted of 100% foreigners, creating a unique atmosphere. However, there were no foreign customers. It was interesting to see that everyone except the owner seemed to be foreigners. The prices for individual dishes were around 900 yen, which may be a bit expensive for solo diners. The deep-fried flying fish, tubobina tempura, and seared sawara (which was only half portion but given as a service) were tasty. The tubobina tempura was well-fried and delicious. However, the sesame mackerel and seared sawara tasted average, possibly due to the fact that the kitchen staff were also foreigners. I apologize for any prejudice, but seeing the faces of the cooks may have affected my perception. The unique atmosphere was great, but I felt that they could add more value to their dishes. In the past 10 years, Isogai and Shirasukujira have rapidly increased their number of stores and expanded to Osaka and Tokyo. As a result, their signature dish, grilled miso-marinated sea bream, has become scarce. Despite this, they still offer it for 980 yen. Sea bream is a white fish that becomes tender when grilled, with a rich flavor. When marinated in Saikyo miso, it absorbs the flavor and becomes incredibly delicious. Another recommended dish is the squid dumplings with mentaiko, which is just as good as the original from Manbo. The burdock tempura and shrimp tempura are also delicious. The miso soup with seaweed was a bit strong, but still tasty. Overall, the food was enjoyable and satisfying.

First time at this restaurant. My partner found this place after I mentioned wanting to eat Japanese food. Our concept is not just high quality and delicious, but also how can we enjoy a delicious meal at a good value! This place fits the bill - it's a good deal, delicious, and overall a pleasant experience. The staff includes a motherly figure in the kitchen, a veteran chef, and all other roles are filled by foreigners. Despite that, everyone is attentive and the service is polite. The sashimi platter for two was quite large, we couldn't finish it all, but it was no problem. This restaurant suits us well, we will definitely visit again!
