On a weekday night on October 20, 2014, I had some business to attend to at Grand Front. Despite its close proximity, I don't visit this commercial facility often (lol). I still had the image of the crowded opening day in my mind, so I was a bit hesitant to go... But since it was a weekday, there were very few people, and I was able to walk around comfortably after a long time. After finishing my business, I wandered around trying to decide where to eat. I decided on this restaurant that looked delicious. It's a super small shop with only 7 counter seats! It's called Kyushi Yakitei, a specialty shop for Kwa Yaki.
Kwa Yaki is...? A Kwa is a tool used for tilling fields. In the past, people in Osaka started cooking birds, fish, vegetables, etc. on a Kwa that was heated in fields or rice paddies during breaks from farming work. There are individual menu items available, but there are also course menus where you can choose the amount of food. This time, I was drawn to the course menu and decided to try the Kwa Yaki Enjoyment Course or the Kwa Yaki Appreciation Course.
I wanted to eat something light, so I chose the smallest 8-piece course in the Kwa Yaki Appreciation Course. It includes vegetable sticks, 8 pieces of Kwa Yaki, and dessert for 1500 yen. The vegetable stick skewers were refreshing. The condiments on the table are sauce, ponzu vinegar, mustard, and salt. Each skewer is grilled in front of you at the counter and served. The staff also recommends the best condiments to go with each skewer.
The dishes included in the course were: Stuffed Shishito Peppers (with ponzu vinegar), Chicken Breast Wrapped in Yam (with salt or ponzu vinegar), Pork Fillet Cheese (as is), Melting Octopus Foil Steam (with mustard), Shrimp and Taro (with salt), Curry Croquette (as is), Whole Asparagus Pork Roll (as is). The dessert options were vanilla ice cream or pear sorbet.
Overall, it was a nice restaurant to visit when you want to eat lightly or focus more on drinking. However, the staff's voice was a bit too soft when serving the skewers, making it difficult to hear. It would have been even better if they were a bit more friendly. Delicious food equals happiness.
