Located in Funaba-cho, Kokurakita-ku, Kitakyushu City, this manju shop is situated on the basement floor of Kokura Idzutsuya. Surprisingly, it has a long history dating back to 1953. They offer Idzutsuya manju for 40 yen each, with options for 15, 20, or 25 pieces in a gift box. I purchased 2 pieces of Idzutsuya manju for 40 yen each. The manju has a chewy texture and is bite-sized. The filling is unexpectedly white bean paste, which is light and fluffy. The combination of the soft texture and smooth white bean paste is a perfect match. Moreover, it is very affordable. The manju is usually stamped with the Idzutsuya logo, but it can change to various designs like "night view," "Teitan," "victory," or "Shabon-chan" depending on the occasion, such as the Hawks winning or the 60th anniversary of Kitakyushu City. It was a delightful meal.

Since around 1953, the "Izutsuya Manju" has been loved for a long time. It costs 40 yen per piece. Made with flour, eggs, and sugar, the dough is filled with white bean paste. The mini dorayaki has a pleasant texture and a subtly sweet, rustic flavor. It features the Izutsuya logo. It goes really well with green tea. It's a delicious taste that doesn't get old.

This is a manju (Japanese sweet bun) named after a department store. I found a shop in the basement selling these. Upon trying it, I realized that this sweet is more like a small imagawayaki (Japanese filled pancake) than a manju. They were made using a machine there. The surface had the logo of Isetan. Each one costs 40 yen. I ate it on a bench in front of Kokura Station. The taste was as expected - the skin was thick and the filling was minimal. It's just right for a snack.

On October 1, 2022 (Saturday), my daughter and I went on a 1 night, 2 day trip to Kitakyushu (mainly Kokura). On the first day, we had lunch at Sarashia Kitchen, watched a circus at Kitakyushu Performing Arts Theater, and then strolled around Kokura. While enjoying ourselves by exploring the Riverwalk and taking photos of Kokura Castle, I suddenly suggested, "Let's go to Izutsuya (department store)!" I really like the depachika (food basement) there. Moreover, Izutsuya in Kokura has a nice Showa-era atmosphere. We happened to come across the limited edition "Izutsuya Manju" that can only be purchased on the 1st of every month from September to November. I thought, "We'll be able to buy it quickly even if we have to wait a bit." But I was wrong! We waited for about 50 minutes to buy a box of 6 manju. The "Izutsuya Manju" we had while still warm was delicious with a nostalgic taste. It was a cute-sized white bean paste manju (the dough was like a pancake) that was just right for a snack.

When I was doing the Itzuya Roller operation, I discovered "Itzuya Manju". I felt a sense of unease because it wasn't even registered as a store. However, when I tried to register it, I found out that it was already registered as "Izutsuya Manju". I had seen good reviews about it from other customers, so I knew I was in the right place. It didn't matter anyway because I was planning to visit all the stores. The taste is just average, like your typical baked sweet treat. The size is a bit small, but the price is reasonable and affordable. And the best part is the Itzuya emblem (# mark) baked onto it. It's so nice, I wish they could put that emblem on my belongings too.

Located on the basement floor of Ogura Itoya, this shop offers handmade treats baked individually. Priced at 35 yen each including tax, these mini-sized treats are light and have a soft outer skin filled with white bean paste. They are so light that you could eat as many as you want, and they are incredibly delicious. The grid mark on top adds a nice touch as well.

I mistakenly thought the manju were filled with black bean paste, but was surprised when I tried it. After reading other reviews, it seems like the stamp on the manju changes daily. It's interesting. Also, they are surprisingly cheap. Although they are small in size, 35 yen per piece is impressive in this day and age.

◉Genre: Japanese sweets ◉Area: Inside Izutsuya, Kokurakita Ward, Kitakyushu City ◉Access: About 6 minutes on foot from JR Kokura Station ◉Parking: Available ◉Credit card payment: Accepted ◉Number of visits: Multiple times ◉Number of reviews: 1st visit On this day, I casually visited "Izutsuya Manju" inside Izutsuya, a long-established department store in Kokurakita Ward, Kitakyushu City. ◇Exterior and Interior This shop is located in the basement of the department store Izutsuya in Kokurakita Ward, Kitakyushu City. I visited here for a quick bite after leaving the previous store. It seems like a place that many Kitakyushu residents might know about, even though I can't say for sure. ◇Seating Takeout only. ◇Menu Composition Only "Izutsuya Manju" is available! I ordered the following: - Manju (35 yen) → It's been a while since I last visited. I vaguely remember my grandmother used to eat it often. This shop is known for its mini manju, similar to a dorayaki, with white bean paste filling. The interesting part is the stamp on top. On this day, it was the Izutsuya logo, but it changes from time to time. And it's so cheap, it's almost unbelievable! ◆Strong Points A popular item in the Izutsuya department store basement. ◆Customer Service Average. ◆Summary A fitting choice for the second stop of my year-end indulgence. The influence of Tabelog is truly remarkable! Thank you for the meal.

Located at the underground food market of the "Kokura Itoya" department store near the north exit of the Heiwadori Station on the Kitakyushu Monorail, this specialty shop has been beloved for its taiyaki (fish-shaped cake filled with sweet red bean paste). This type of shop was commonly found in department store basements in the Showa era and is now a rare find nationwide. The small round castella cakes are freshly baked one after another using a dedicated machine. The filling is white bean paste, creating a fluffy texture when warm and a moist taste when cooled. It's a delightful touch that the cakes are stamped with the Itoya department store logo.

I bought 10 Idzutsuya manju from the basement of Idzutsuya around 17:50. They were only selling pre-made manju at that time. They have the Idzutsuya mark on them, are bite-sized, and have white bean paste inside. There is a rival manju shop on the same floor called Hachigaku Manju. They have manju the same size as Roppo-yaki with the same black and white bean paste, so I would like to try those as well. If I were to have Idzutsuya manju again, I would buy them around noon because I want to eat them hot. Thank you for the meal.

When I went to Inazutaya in Kokura, I had to get their famous Inazutaya manju. It's fun to watch the old-fashioned machine making clanking noises while baking them. However, there was a sign saying no photography allowed on the machine since July. Oh well, that's a shame. They cost 105 yen for three now, a little more expensive, but the deliciousness remains the same!

Today is "No Additives Day," so the branding iron at Inzutoya has been changed from their usual mark to the Shabon-chan mark of Shabon Tamago Soap, a no-additive soap company from Kitakyushu. When the Reiwa era began, it seems they had the Rei mark. Despite waiting in a tremendous line for 45 minutes, I was able to get some freshly baked goods. The hot, fresh-out-of-the-oven feeling was fantastic. The taste was reliably nostalgic and delicious.

It's not very big, but a small souvenir. At 27 yen each, it's really a great deal. It's the Izutsuya manju. It has quite a lot of white bean paste inside, so it's not something to be underestimated even at 27 yen. So, I compared it with the Hanraku manju in the same Izutsuya basement. As usual, it's black bean paste. The skin is chewy and has a good texture. On the other hand, the Izutsuya manju has a castella cake-like skin, so it's fluffy. The bean paste in the Hanraku manju is solid and rich. While the Hanraku manju also has white bean paste, I personally don't like it... So, the Izutsuya manju also... I ended up thinking, "Was it white bean paste?" But since it's small in size, I just casually ate it. The Hanraku manju is a solid manju, while the Izutsuya manju is a fluffy and light manju, that's the gist of it.

In the midst of the rows, I wait. The taste is nostalgic, but I hope they will soon bring out the black bean paste too.

After enjoying some sweets at Ogura Idutsuya, there is something else worth seeing. In the basement food section, there is Idutsuya Manju. These small dorayaki-like pastries, about 4 cm in diameter, are all made by a machine rather than a person. The machine makes a rhythmic sound as it bakes, captivating both young children and adults in line. Previously, they were also available at Kurosaki Idutsuya, but they were removed a few years ago and now only available here. A round metal mold is brought in on a curved lane to inject the batter. It is then baked on a rotating hot plate, filled with white bean paste and more batter on top, flipped with a "click" and baked again, with the Idutsuya logo being baked on top. Removing the pastry from the mold is done by hand to ensure no batter is left inside. The hot plate is greased with a spatula and the small machine is filled with various mechanisms. Truly a city of industry, Kitakyushu. I thought the equipment was from a local machinery manufacturer, but it turns out it's from a company in Aichi. Watching this process made me crave them, so I lined up and bought four for a total of 108 yen. Each one costs 27 yen including tax. I had them after dinner. Inside is white bean paste, with just the right amount of sweetness. I could easily eat more than one.

Izutsuya Manju will reopen on July 2nd with a new name, changing from Inatsuya Manju. It is located in the basement of the Izutsuya department store in Kokura Kita-ku, Kitakyushu City. They only sell freshly baked manju for 27 yen each. I stopped by because I was craving their manju. The atmosphere seems to have changed after the renovation. They offer traditional castella manju with white bean paste, freshly baked on site. The bean paste is made with white kidney beans and the dough uses honey. It's a bite-sized treat with a mild sweetness that won't get you tired of it. By the way, during the Kokura Gion Taiko in July and the WASSHOI Hyakuman Natsu Matsuri in August, they will have a limited edition manju with the Ogasawara clan crest "Mitsugashiwa" on the surface. Izutsuya Manju remains a popular choice with its simple and gentle flavor.

When I visited Ogura Idoya, I found Idoya Manju in the basement of the department store. It costs 27 yen per piece. I was nostalgic watching the machine making traditional manju. The price list goes like this: 1 piece for 27 yen, 2 pieces for 54 yen, 3 pieces for 81 yen, and so on. I bought some to take home and some to eat on the spot. They are bite-sized, with white bean paste inside, and taste very nostalgic. I heard that there is a similar manju called Daimaru Manju at Shimonoseki Daimaru. No wonder it tasted familiar!

Now, I came to Kokura for the first time and visited Izutsuya department store. It has a different feel compared to Osaka's department stores. The Daichan manju was delicious, with a similar feel to it as it also had Izutsuya's logo on it. The white bean paste was sweet and the taste was refined and elegant. It was good, priced at 52 yen per piece including tax. Thank you for the meal! Release January 2016. Nankaihawks1's Gourmet Guide. Nankaihawks1's blog: http://hawks1.exblog.jp/

The famous specialty of Izutsuya Department Store is a steamed bun that costs only 27 yen including tax, boasting overwhelming affordability. Baked by a machine that has been automated for over 50 years, the sight of it continues to captivate the innocent eyes of young children. Even if you buy 10 of them, it's only 270 yen. This is what we call a super bargain! The fluffy pancake dough with a gentle white bean paste filling has remained unchanged in taste since long ago. Even an old guy like me, who was once a child with innocent eyes, has been fascinated by the movement of this steamed bun machine and lost track of time for 50 years. Time keeps spinning around~♪ Did Miyuki Nakajima sing about this Izutsuya steamed bun!? Please continue to provide these affordable steamed buns that keep spinning endlessly. Long live Izutsuya!!
