Asano in Kokurakita Ward, Kitakyushu City. There are many local candy chains in Kitakyushu and its surrounding areas, such as Kotsukado, Hiyoko, Sakaeya, and more. Nishikyodo, located in Ota-machi, Kokurakita Ward, Kitakyushu City, is one of them. They offer a variety of sweets like Genkai Maki, Kokura Warabe, Kokura Potato, Genkai Roll, Orange Road, Dorayaki, Mochimochi Dorayaki, Taiko no Manju, Mochi Cookies, Baked Chocolate, and more. They also have assorted souvenir packs available. This time, I purchased Kokura Potato (170 yen). Kokura Potato comes in two flavors, sweet potato and purple sweet potato. This time, I chose the sweet potato flavor. It's a soft sweet potato treat that brings out the natural sweetness of the potato. It has a soft texture with hidden bits of potato inside, adding a nice accent. There used to be several stores, but now there are only two. Thank you for the meal.

◉Genre: Japanese sweets ◉Area: Amu Plaza Kokura, Kokurakita-ku, Kitakyushu City ◉Access: A few minutes' walk from JR Kokura Station ◉Parking: Available ◉Credit card payment: Not available ◉Number of visits: About 3 times ◉Number of reviews: 1st review On this day, I casually stopped by "Seikyodo Amu Plaza Kokura Store." ◇Exterior and Interior This Japanese sweets shop is located on the 1st floor of Amu Plaza, a commercial facility directly connected to JR Kokura Station in Kokurakita-ku, Kitakyushu City. While many Japanese sweets shops in the area offer sweets mainly from Fukuoka City, this shop is a purebred born and raised in Kokura. ◇No seating available. ◇Menu Composition Their specialty is the Genkaimaki! In addition, they offer items like mochi, dorayaki, and Kokura potato. The items I ordered are as follows: - Genkaimaki (140 yen) → Tax included. I completely forgot about the existence of Seikyodo... As a local, that's a disqualification. lol Satoki. Each Japanese sweets shop has its signature item, and it's common for people to have their favorites. I'm no exception. Among them, Genkaimaki is one of my top favorites. The soft sponge cake, sweet red bean paste, and double-layered mochi create a wonderful harmony. Plain is good too, but sometimes I crave matcha... lol ◆Strong Point Japanese sweets born and raised in Kokura are recommended, especially the Genkaimaki! ◆Service Average. ◆Summary Long ago, someone told me, "If you like pon de ring, you'll probably like this too." I tried it and it was true... I used to love it, but I forgot about it... I'll definitely visit again. Thank you for the meal. ^ ^

On the first floor of Amu Plaza Kokura, there is Nishikyodo, a souvenir shop. I went there to buy snacks for myself and bought Genkai Maki and Genkai Roll. Genkai Maki is a soft sponge cake filled with domestic red beans and soft mochi wrapped in it. It comes in two flavors: plain and matcha, each priced at 151 yen (tax included) per piece. Genkai Roll is a light and fluffy sweet with a soft sponge cake filled with smooth cream, priced at 140 yen (tax included) per piece. Both are delicious!

Located in Amu Plaza Kokura at Kokura Station. This place also has many other sweet shops lined up. Although there are not many stores, I didn't know that Nishikyodo is famous in Kokura, such as in the Golden Market. - Mochi Mochi Dorayaki (151 yen) It is small but surprisingly thick, with plenty of red bean paste. It also contains butter cream inside, and the dough is quite mochi mochi, giving it a hint of Western confectionery. The dough and red bean paste are slightly sweet, but with the saltiness of the butter cream, the size is just right, so it remains delicious until the end. - Genkai Roll Matcha (151 yen) There were several flavors, but I chose matcha. It contains fluffy castella dough, Hokkaido Tokachi red beans, matcha cream, and Haneju mochi. Both the dough and Haneju mochi are quite soft, and this sweet combines the best of Japanese and Western flavors. There are also boxed versions for gifts, making it a great souvenir or gift as a specialty confectionery from Kitakyushu.

I thought I had completely covered all the similar stores in the Amu Plaza, but after seeing a review from a mutual follower, I came here thinking, "Huh!" It actually existed. I had a suspicion that they might be making up fictional stores, so I completely missed it. The small sweet potato is small in size. The sweet potato is of good quality and quite delicious as a traditional Japanese confectionery. It also keeps well for a certain period of time, making it a recommended souvenir from Kokura. Suica is accepted.

I usually ignore the sweets section at Amu because it's just a row of satellite stores in a mass retailer, but since I happened to step inside, I decided to try and conquer it with my completionist spirit. I knew there was a store in Ogura-machi, but it's always closed when I go at night, so it was convenient this time. I ended up buying "Ogura Potato" from the selection. I thought it might be a sweet potato or my beloved "Hakata Potato" type, but unlike those two Western-style sweets, this one leaned more towards Japanese sweets. It had a nice balance of sweet potato flavor without being too overpowering, and a solid texture. To put it in terms of a mutual follower, I would say, "I definitely took one for the team." If I can make it to the Ogura store next time, I'd like to try other sweets, but I might end up repeating the Ogura Potato instead of writing a review for just one sweet next time.

This is a shop in Amu Plaza. I had passed by the shop several times but had never tried their food, so I bought a few items to try. They had Genkai Maki in plain and matcha flavors. The photo is of the plain one. It is a moist confection with sweet red bean paste inside, which goes well with coffee or tea. The Kogane Warabe had white bean paste inside, and its appearance is reminiscent of a lollipop. The thin skin is filled generously with red bean paste. The Kogane Potato is a snack made with regular sweet potato and purple sweet potato paste. It has a moist texture and a delicious sweet potato flavor, which I liked the most. I might buy it again.

I received this as a souvenir. It seems to be a popular item in Kokura. It is a traditional Japanese sweet. Inside something like a pancake, there was a unique texture of a sticky and sweet paste. It is not too sweet and does not leave a heavy feeling after eating. It is suitable for everyone.

Located on the 1st floor of Amuse Plaza Nishikan adjacent to Kokura Station. They have Kokura Potato (cute sweet potato petit cakes in purple and yellow). I tried two types, both were moist and delicious, similar to sweet potato, but I preferred the yellow one. The Fukumochi rice cake was soft and tasty with sweet bean paste. All of them have a long shelf life, making them perfect as souvenirs. *Kokura Potato also comes in a box, but the price includes an additional \400 for the box, so buying them individually is recommended! (lol)

I always stop by when I go to Kokura. You can buy sweets starting from just one piece, so you can try a variety of them. My favorite is Kokura Potato, but I also like their signature product, Genkai Maki. The fluffy dough and chewy mochi filling are irresistible. When I bought it as a souvenir, it was well received.

A confectionery shop in Kitakyushu City. They offer various traditional Japanese sweets. Their business hours are from 9:00 to 20:00. One of their specialties is the Kokura Warabi, a small steamed bun with white bean paste filling. The name "Kokura" is pronounced as "Kokura" in reference to the location in Kokura Ward, Kitakyushu City. The bun is small and bite-sized, with a moist texture that melts in your mouth.

At Kokura Station, I decided to buy souvenirs at the Amu Plaza on the first floor of the station building. Among the souvenir shops, I was approached by a staff member and stopped at "Seikyodo". Seikyodo is a traditional Japanese confectionery store in Kokura with a history of 60 years. Their recommended item is the "Genkai Maki" (100 yen), which is sponge cake wrapped in sweet bean paste and mochi. There are two types available, one with regular dough and the other with matcha-flavored dough. I bought one of each and enjoyed them at home. When I opened the package, I found a half-moon shaped sweet with a large piece of mochi inside. The mochi was thick and chewy, complemented by the mildly sweet sweet bean paste and sponge cake. This is truly a delicious confectionery. It can last for about two weeks, making it a great choice for souvenirs. (August 2016, First visit on a holiday)
