I recently noticed that my stomach has been getting a bit round from eating and drinking too much, so I decided to go for something a little healthier. I headed to "1/8 Piece," a vegetable skewer restaurant located a 5-minute walk from Shinsaibashi Station (1 minute from Nagahoribashi Station). The restaurant has a stylish setup with a horseshoe-shaped counter surrounding the grilling area, all adorned with striking red tiles. The distance between the seating area and the grilling area is just right, so you don't have to worry about the smell bothering you. They also have tables for two, making it a great spot for a casual date.
Their specialty is vegetable skewers, which are perfect for guilt-free drinking. I heard that if you wrap vegetables in pork, it becomes zero calories, but I guess that's not entirely true, right? The lettuce wrap for 420 yen is a classic choice, with crispy lettuce balancing out the richness of the pork and sauce. The avocado wrap for 380 yen is also a good option, with creamy avocado and wasabi soy mayo. They offer a variety of vegetable skewers like enoki mushroom, ginger, shrimp and shiso, and water spinach, all for 380 yen each. The ginger skewer was surprisingly popular, with a slightly sweet pickled flavor.
I also tried the natto wrap for 380 yen, which I love. The fluffy natto is surprisingly delicious. In addition to vegetable skewers, they have a diverse menu that caters to different tastes. The simmered motsu (offal) for 380 yen is light and flavorful, while the grilled chicken meatball for 380 yen is a crowd favorite with a runny egg yolk. The garlic shrimp for 1280 yen was a surprising addition to the menu, offering a nice garlic aroma and large shrimp that I couldn't resist eating with the shells on.
I couldn't resist ordering the special meat-wrapped rice ball for 680 yen, with a beautifully crafted meat-wrapped rice ball that absorbs the umami flavor of the pork. The black chanja for 420 yen was a unique addition to the meal, with a peppery seasoning that provided a good kick. Lastly, we shared the Tokachi Obihiro pork bowl mega size for 2280 yen. Despite my intentions to eat healthy, I ended up indulging a bit too much in the flavorful sauce of the dish. Overall, it was a satisfying dining experience that might tempt your inner foodie.
