I visited for the first time in about a year. I didn't have a formal meeting, but I wanted to get some local products, so I went to Rokkatei. I tried a baked mochi with red bean paste that is similar to the famous Ume-gaeshi mochi from Dazaifu, but it has a slightly brown color and a salty taste due to the addition of buckwheat flour. It is a limited edition item that can only be purchased at the Jingu Tea House, named after the first chief pioneer of Hokkaido Jingu, Yoshitake Shima. I recommend stopping by when visiting Hokkaido Jingu.

The other day when I went on a trip to Hokkaido, I finally visited Hokkaido Jingu that I had been interested in for a long time! I stopped by Rokkatei on the premises and bought a Han-Guan-sama. It was freshly fried and incredibly tender! I will definitely visit again!

This is a unique sweet treat that can only be enjoyed at Rokkatei here. It is a must-try for those visiting Hokkaido Jingu, with its fragrant soba flour mochi that pairs perfectly with the sweet red bean paste. They have also revived the system of serving complimentary tea to customers who purchase their products.

After visiting Hokkaido Shrine, I entered this shop and bought a "Hankansan" that can only be found here. The mochi was carefully cooked on a hot plate (possibly copper) inside the shop. I couldn't resist buying it once I entered. The Hankansan was so hot that I couldn't hold it for long. They also offered hojicha tea as a service, so I was given a paper cup and enjoyed it outside the shop. The crispy mochi had a salty flavor, which surprised me at first. But when the sweet red bean paste inside entered my mouth, it transformed into a perfect harmony of salty and refreshing sweetness. Oh, this is the true balance of flavors! It was a superb dessert that was perfected through oral cooking!

This is my first visit. I often visit the Jingu area, but this is my first time stopping by Rokkatei. I came here to try the famous grilled mochi with soba flour. It is heated on a hot plate inside the store and they also serve complimentary tea. You can sit on the bench outside the store and enjoy it. It has a simple and delicious taste. The "Hangan-sama" is named after the first chief development judge, Yoshitsuyuki Shima, who contributed to the construction of Hokkaido Jingu. It is a limited edition item only available at this store.

"Han'gansama" (anko mochi) 120 yen Many of Rokkatei's sweets are named after stories of Hokkaido development, and "Han'gansama" is no exception. While there are many Rokkatei stores, you can only enjoy freshly baked anko mochi "Han'gansama" at this tea house in Hokkaido Jingu. Eating it right away at the tea house is the best way to enjoy it. The gentle sweetness of the anko and the soft mochi, freshly baked, create an incomparable deliciousness. You could eat as many as you want. Am I the only one who loves anko? The sense of exclusivity of being "only here" adds to the experience.

Here at Rokkatei, you can enjoy a special treat called "Hankansama". It is a soft mochi filled with sweet red bean paste, wrapped in a thin layer of mochi and quickly grilled on a hot plate. I had it piping hot and it was absolutely delicious! The fluffy, chewy texture of the mochi combined with the perfect sweetness of the red bean paste was amazing. If you visit Hokkaido Jingu, be sure to try this recommended delicacy!

On July 23, 2023 (Sunday) at 11:10, I revisited Sapporo with my wife and explored Hokkaido Shrine. The North Ichijo Parking Lot was very crowded, but the South Ichijo Parking Lot was always empty. We parked the car, and my wife and I took a walk that also served as a forest bathing experience. Right next to it, there was no one at the Kaitaku Shrine. The main hall was very crowded. "My wife loves Hangan-sama, I want to eat it," my wife said. Hangan-sama is only available at the Shrine Tea House. When we come here, it's our routine to eat it freshly baked. Hangan-sama (120 yen/1 piece) is a mochi with soba flour that has a firm texture, filled with plenty of sweet bean paste. Above all, this moment under the clear sky was somehow enjoyable. The two of us enjoyed eating the mochi and then continued to enjoy a walk around the Shrine.

During this trip, I visited the Hokkaido Shrine and tried a limited dessert at Rokkatei Shrine Tea House. The "Hangan-sama" was a traditional Japanese sweet with soba flour baked mochi filled with sweet red bean paste. The soft and chewy texture of the mochi combined with the slightly salty and perfectly sweet red bean paste was delicious. They serve it fresh out of the oven, so you can enjoy it piping hot. They also offer complimentary tea, making it a great place to relax. I highly recommend stopping by when visiting the Hokkaido Shrine. The prices were also very reasonable.

After visiting Hokkaido Shrine, I stopped by here. According to my friend, they used to give out these for free to people who prayed! I wanted to take some home, but was told they harden quickly, so I couldn't. The sweet bean paste wasn't too sweet, and the surrounding rice cake was fluffy and delicious! I want to eat it again!

I received a gift of "Hannya-sama" from the president, who is busy with work and goes to Hokkaido Shrine every first Saturday of the month. The "Hannya-sama" was freshly baked and warm... Even though I usually don't eat solid food until after 12 o'clock, I couldn't resist the delicious treat! I had it with a strong cup of coffee, and it was so good. It had been 3 months since I last had "Hannya-sama," and it was still delicious.

I visited Hokkaido Jingu Shrine. The weather is perfect with clear skies. There were many foreign visitors as well. I drew a fortune slip and got a great blessing. After that, I stopped by Rokkatei Jingu Chaya Store as usual. I enjoyed freshly baked mochi, which was delicious as always. It seems like it's going to be a great year!

Judge-sama was amazing. If you're in the vicinity of Sapporo City, I highly recommend going here. The sweetness is subtle and the chewy dough made from a mixture of soba flour and wheat flour is delicious. During the festival from 6/14 to 6/16 every year, you can apparently buy a souvenir of Judge-sama with 4 pieces only during that period. I happened to be able to buy it! Lucky ^^

[Translation] During my 24-hour solo trip to Sapporo, Hokkaido, I visited Hokkaido Shrine and tried the limited edition sweet called "Hangan-sama" (110 yen) only available at Rokkatei Shrine Teahouse Store (@rokkatei.official). Hokkaido Shrine was established in the second year of the Meiji era to enshrine the god of development. Did you know that there is a Rokkatei Teahouse Store within the precincts of this shrine? And they offer a special mochi that you can only get there. The limited edition treat is a baked mochi confection called "Hangan-sama," named after the first chief development judge, Yoshitake Shima, who was instrumental in the construction of Hokkaido Shrine. It is a store-exclusive item that can only be purchased at the Shrine Teahouse Store. The mochi, made with buckwheat flour, is filled with plenty of sweet red bean paste. You can watch them bake it right in front of you and purchase it piping hot. It is incredibly delicious, with a crispy outer layer and an incredibly soft mochi inside that stretches when pulled. The red bean paste has a subtle salty flavor, which adds to the overall perfection of this treat. If you ever visit Sapporo, make sure to try it out! In May, I visited Hokkaido Shrine for the first time in a while. It's one of the top power spots in Hokkaido, and a place I occasionally feel the urge to visit. After visiting there, I decided to try a limited edition item at Rokkatei. I had been curious about it for a while. At Rokkatei Jingu Chaya Store at Hokkaido Shrine, I tried the "Hangan-sama" for 120 yen. It's a mochi made with buckwheat flour, filled with sweet bean paste. It was served warm on a griddle-like iron plate in the store. The mochi was warm and seemed smaller than expected, but it felt surprisingly heavy when held. Inside the soft and fragrant mochi, there was a sweet and subtly sweetened smooth red bean paste, which was delicious. A must-try after visiting Hokkaido Shrine. I honestly regret not trying it earlier. Thank you for the meal.

"I'm not particularly religious, but Hokkaido Shrine holds a special place in my heart. I like the atmosphere of shrines, and being the Ichinomiya of Hokkaido, as well as having its annual festival on my birthday, makes it feel familiar to me. Before the pandemic, I used to visit the shrine 2-3 times a year, including the New Year's visit in January. However, due to the ongoing COVID-19 situation, I refrained from visiting during the New Year this year. But now that the situation is improving, I finally made a late visit for the New Year in March. I parked my car in the parking lot and entered the shrine. I noticed that the popular "Rokkatei Hokkaido Shrine Store" near the entrance had a shorter line than usual. Seizing the opportunity, I bought their famous 'Hannkansama' sweet. Formerly known as 'Shrine Tea House,' this store is the only place where you can get the freshly baked 'Hannkansama' mochi confection with sweet bean paste filling. It used to be offered for free to shrine visitors, but it became a paid item due to uncontrollable demand. Still, at 120 yen per piece, it's an affordable treat. While they used to serve complimentary Japanese tea, it seems that service has been discontinued, possibly due to the pandemic or cost-cutting measures. In addition to 'Hannkansama,' they also sell a variety of Rokkatei sweets, so it's a good idea to buy some sweet treats for a break during your shrine visit."

After purchasing a new car, I visited the shrine right after the delivery to pray for traffic safety in the solemn main hall, received a purification ritual, and pledged to drive safely once again. On the way back, after passing through the torii gate, there is a rest area called Rokkatei. This wooden tea shop has a calm and sophisticated atmosphere, and among the various Rokkatei shops, they sell a special sweet called "Hankan-san" that you can only find here. It's a must-stop. Upon entering the shop, there were already two groups of customers, both looking for Hankan-san. The Hankan-san was just starting to be baked for 110 yen exactly, and it would take 2-3 minutes until it's ready. I received a number tag and sat on a chair near the entrance to wait. After about 2 minutes, my number was called, and I received the freshly baked Hankan-san, which was still hot. The freshly baked rice cake was soft, with a fragrant crispy surface. When I took a bite, I could taste the scent of buckwheat, and the combination of the salty rice cake and sweet red bean paste was exquisite. The small rice cake disappeared in an instant. You can also take Hankan-san home, but I recommend enjoying it at the tea shop on your way back from the shrine. It was a delicious treat.

On the second day of my first trip to Sapporo in 4 years, I visited the Hokkaido Shrine as usual. This area has become a popular spot for the Long-tailed Rosefinch in the past two years, so if you're lucky, you might be able to see one. While the Maruyama Park, which is usually crowded with people enjoying Genghis Khan BBQ and cherry blossom viewing during Golden Week, is still covered in snow. Despite the difficult footing, after finishing my visit, I stopped by this place. It's a tea house and souvenir shop run by Rokkatei within the shrine grounds. The tea house serves a specialty baked mochi called "Hangan-sama" with sweet red bean paste, made to order, and a complimentary Kaga stick tea. In May, this tea house usually overflows with customers, but it was quiet at this time of year. However, there were a few inbound tourists who have returned. The Kaga stick tea (roasted green tea) from Maruyama Seicha is still not offered as a free service, only tea leaves are available for purchase. After buying a few sweets for souvenirs, I purchased the "Hangan-sama". Usually, I eat it on the bench outside the shop, but this time I enjoyed it in the eat-in space inside. The thinly baked skin on the surface is crispy and fragrant, while the mochi underneath is chewy and stretchy. The warm red bean paste is also delicious. It was a nice break after walking on the snowy roads. Also, the staff informed me that I could use the points from my souvenir purchases to get a coffee at Rokkatei's cafe near the municipal subway station. So, on my way back, I stopped by there, but I will report on that separately in another review. Although I was able to spot the Long-tailed Rosefinch, a bird unique to Hokkaido in Japan, I couldn't find the Long-tailed Tit as expected. It seems impossible to find one even for the locals who have never seen one in person.

I received this as a souvenir. It seems that "Hanjuku-sama" is famous here as a store exclusive. I had the "Marsei Butter Sand", which is well-known. It consists of butter cream, raisins, and cookie dough. The balance is truly exquisite. It's no wonder this long-time favorite is so popular. It was delicious.

After purifying my bad luck at Hokkaido Shrine, I bought a warm Hoka Hoka Han'gasa (110 yen including tax). The chewy mochi and hot anko warmed up my cold body. The size is perfect for eating multiple pieces. A must-have for those visiting the shrine! Delicious!
