(2023.01.03) During the New Year's holiday season, many shops are closed for the first three days. Last year, I struggled to find a place for lunch because I underestimated the situation and didn't plan ahead. So this year, I made sure to confirm the opening hours and make reservations in advance. Today, I visited "The Lively Fukuoka Hakata," a hotel near Nakasu Kawabata Station. As I passed through the hotel's entrance, I was greeted by a lobby bar with a high ceiling, and further inside was the restaurant "THE LIVELY KITCHEN" that I was aiming for. Both places had a sophisticated and elegant design, setting them apart from traditional hotel restaurants, which got me excited. I was guided to a table in the center of the 80-seat dining area, which had a large table about 2,500mm square with a stylish display of flowers under a glass panel. The lunch menu offered three courses - "Man," "World," and "Fortune," allowing me to choose a main dish and pasta in the "Fortune" course. First, I was served an amuse-bouche of "Churros with Chrysanthemum," where chrysanthemum stems were fried in a stick-like shape and served with prosciutto to wrap around. Next was "Scallop Tartare with Turnip Potage Soup," featuring the sweetness of turnip that intensifies in the cold weather, complemented by the rare scallop on top. For the main course, there were three options - "Grilled Mackerel with Sake Lees Cheese Sauce," "Grilled Pork Shoulder and Apple," and "US Prime Beef Tagliata." I chose the "Grilled Pork Shoulder and Apple," which had a delightful balance of grilled apple's sweetness and the saltiness of the seasoned pork loin, along with a crispy outer layer and a moist interior. The accompanying sour cream added a nice touch. For pasta, I chose the "Rigatoni with Beef Bolognese," which had a strong tomato sauce flavor but satisfying al dente rigatoni texture. For dessert, I opted for the "Purple Sweet Potato Mont Blanc," which was the staff's top recommendation. Served in a wine glass-shaped dish with crushed biscuits at the bottom, the vanilla ice cream topped with finely squeezed purple sweet potato cream melted in the mouth, accompanied by a crunchy biscuit texture and sweet potato chips. It was a satisfying and delightful treat.
