Pound cake made with koji. It's small and perfect for a souvenir. It's moist and sweet this time, using pure rice sake and egg yolks. The chestnut sweets I bought as well were delicious.

The main store in Urumi-cho, in the evening, there were few skewered dumplings left, so I pretty much bought them all. The prices were cheap and I was grateful for that! The plum-flavored red bean paste in the skewered dumplings was very delicious, and I think it's a unique product that you can't find elsewhere. There were also various sizes of cakes made with local sake from Fukushi, which would be a great souvenir from Kushiro!

On this day in January 2023, we went on a field trip. We walked to Itsukushima Shrine for a visit and then stopped by "Nakajima" Urami Honten. Their famous Fukushi Castella has a rich flavor that I tried about 30 years ago. My partner hasn't tried it before, so we bought some to enjoy later at home. The moist Castella doesn't have a strong sake scent, but it is really delicious. I remember it used to have more of a sake flavor, but maybe it's because it's made with pure rice sake. This is really tasty! The Kushiro cheesecake tasted just as I imagined, delicious. Nakajima also has a Nakazono shop, so I'll try stopping by there next time. Thank you for the meal.

I purchased these cakes last month when I visited the Fisherman's Wharf in Kushiro, Hokkaido. They were both around 300-400 yen each, making them affordable souvenirs. Another reason I bought them was because I thought they might not be sold in Honshu, so I wanted to try them. Both cakes were moist and not too sweet. They paired well with coffee and were a lovely and convenient treat. Thank you for the meal!

This is a souvenir from a business trip to Kushiro. It was requested by my wife, so I searched several supermarkets but couldn't find it. After a serious search at the inn, I realized that I could definitely find it at MOO or Kushiro Station. I stopped by Kushiro Station first thing in the morning to buy it. However, there was no parking for regular cars at Kushiro Station, which was very inconvenient. When I finally got back home, I missed the opportunity to eat it and stored it in the refrigerator until I finally ate it the other day. It is said to contain Kushiro's local sake Fukushi's sake, but you can hardly taste the alcohol flavor. It just feels like enjoying the texture of a cheesecake. I ate the cake with Fukushi in it while drinking Hokkaido's Hidaka Mountains "Tokachi". It was a nice moment in the atmosphere surrounded by eastern Hokkaido. Thank you for the meal. I bought one for each person, but it may have been a bit too much.

This time, I didn't buy Fukushi's famous cakes even though it's a well-known shop for cakes. Lately, I've been into "anko" (sweet red bean paste) desserts, so I chose Japanese sweets this time. Even though it was just past lunchtime, there were only a few manju (sweet buns) and dango (sweet dumplings) left, with some items already sold out. From the remaining selection, I bought kashiwa mochi (rice cake wrapped in oak leaf) and inaka manju (country-style sweet bun). The inaka manju had plenty of sweet red bean paste wrapped in a thin skin, with black faces peeking out from the gaps in the white skin. The sweetness was evident just by looking at it. The sweet red bean paste inside was made of whole azuki beans, giving a satisfying texture when eaten. It was a delicious treat that went well with slightly bitter tea. The kashiwa mochi had a nice aroma of oak leaves. The mochi was shiny and had a good chewy texture, paired well with the subtly sweet red bean paste. I think it's a great confectionery shop known for its red bean paste treats. It has become my favorite shop. Thank you for the meal.

In Kushiro, there is a well-known and long-established store that offers a variety of traditional Japanese sweets, and as a sake lover, there is one item that caught my attention. It is "Kashidokoro Nakajima Urami Honten". Located at 3-3-16 Urami, Kushiro City, the store is open from 9:00 to 20:00, closed on the 2nd and 4th Sundays. They have parking and offer takeout. Please contact the store for the latest information on their opening hours, closures, and takeout services. You can find their website at https://kashi-nakazima.com/ This store collaborates with Fukutsukasa Shuzo, a long-established sake brewery founded in 1919, to produce a special product called "Fukutsukasa Sake Cake". The packaging has a sake-like design. This cake, made with sake, is currently the top souvenir in Kushiro. It is recommended to enjoy it chilled. The texture is fine and moist, with a light and fluffy taste. It has a slightly sweet flavor with a hint of sake. The sake flavor is not only on the surface but also adds depth to the overall taste. It is a luxurious cake for adults.

When I visited Kushiro at the end of the year, I tried a local original castella cake made with local sake "Fukushi". It was reasonably priced, moist, and delicious. The portion size was also decent. Recently, it seems that Kushiro City has dropped from the 4th to the 5th in population in Hokkaido. I hope that the local industries will continue to thrive.

I was recommended to try a local specialty snack by a local, so I went to "Kushiro Kashidokoro Nakajima". I heard that the cakes made with Kushiro's famous sake, Fukushi, are recommended! So, I bought one. There were regular and junmai sake versions, and I chose the junmai sake one! When I opened it, there was a gentle and delicious sake aroma! The cake was fluffy. Although you couldn't taste the alcohol, you could feel the richness of the sake. It seems very popular in the local area, probably because it's made with famous sake! I was surprised to find it later at a souvenir shop in Sapporo Station. You can check out more on my blog here: http://kapilog.yutabi.net/

On a weekday afternoon in Kushiro City, I headed to Nisachi for strawberry daifuku, but after parking in a difficult spot and walking to the store, I found out that it was closed for the day. Disappointed, I decided to try another place recommended by locals. Located in a residential area up a hill from a rotary near the famous Bembei Bridge, this place has been in business for 40 years. I didn't know that they had a collaboration with Kushiro's only sake brewery, Fukutsukasa, and their signature cakes are made using sake. Inside the store, there were Fukutsukasa cakes displayed prominently. They offer two types of cakes made with sake, known for their moist texture and sake aroma. It's an interesting souvenir idea for Kushiro. I ended up buying skewered dango, choosing soy sauce and matcha flavors. Each skewer was only 97 yen, quite affordable. When I asked, the staff brought them out from the back. The soy sauce dango had a familiar taste, not too strong, and the matcha dango had delicious chunky red bean paste. The dango was soft and chewy, a great deal for the price. While I'm not sure about their sales breakdown, Fukutsukasa cakes seem to be popular as they are sold in souvenir shops in the city. This place may be hard to find even for locals, but it seems to have a strong lineup of long-standing popular items. Overall, it was a satisfying experience. Note that there is another branch called Nakazono located in the city, which might be easier to locate. Enjoy your meal!

When I was looking for a souvenir to bring back to my home in Kushiro, I came across the sake cake "Fukushi" from the confectionery Nakajima. I tried to buy it at the nearest Nakajima store, but it seemed to be closed. So I headed to the main store in Urashiri, but that was closed too. I couldn't write a review for Tabelog like this. I then tried Moo as my third option, going to the store farthest from the parking lot first. It was hard to find, but I finally managed to purchase it at the service counter and in the store. Now, time to taste it. They said it had a scent of alcohol, so I decided to do a taste comparison with two different types. The color: white and yellow, clearly distinguishable. The texture of the sponge: visually, the white one seemed finer. The mouthfeel was fluffy like a soufflé, without the dryness of the sponge. But it did take away the moisture in my mouth. What kind of drink goes well with sake cake? Coffee? Tea? Black tea? Maybe sake? But having alcohol with alcohol might diminish the flavors. So, I went with coffee. The scent: something hit me with the first bite. The flavor... by the second bite... the third bite... there was nothing left. No scent, no cake, nothing. In the end, I enjoyed only the texture without being able to distinguish the scent. It was a delicious cake.

It was my first trip to Kushiro, so I decided to buy some sweets from Kushiro's confectionery shops to bring back home. I purchased the "Azuki Roll" from Nakajima, which is a roll cake filled with plenty of red beans, and the "Yuhi" from Akanko Matsuya, which is a steamed bun with a sunset-colored skin filled with milk bean paste and raspberry jam. At first, I regretted only buying a small amount. The "Yuhi" initially seemed like it didn't need the jam, but it turned out to be a perfect accent that added a unique flavor. The "Azuki Roll" was small in size, about 4cm in diameter and 12cm in length, but it was moist, dense, and perfect for red bean lovers. It was sweet but not overwhelming, and I couldn't stop eating it. I should have bought more. I thought about buying in bulk, but they don't last long as they don't contain preservatives or additives. I was considering visiting Kushiro and Lake Akan in winter, but the temptation of these sweets might make me go sooner. I wonder if there are any shops around here that sell them. Maybe I should order them online? But if I buy multiple, I might not be able to stop myself from eating a whole roll at once.

After the fireworks in Kushiro ended and autumn approached, I heard the sound of it getting closer. Feeling sentimental about getting older, I decided to take a stroll to find some souvenirs. It was still early, so I fed the stray cats in the area and wandered around. I arrived at Nakajima Kashiya at just the right time. Although Fukushi is famous, I decided to try their dango instead of their main mochi. There were many varieties in the case, including suama. I bought soy sauce and plum flavors, both of which were delicious. The dango from Fukushi was soft and tasty. I wonder if I prefer this over suama? Next year, I'll definitely stock up on dango. But regardless of next year, I hope they continue making delicious dango for years to come. I will definitely visit again soon!

I drank in Kushiro and had a fun time. It was just for one night, so I have to go back today. I heard they have dried "shishamo" at the station, and next to it is Shikisai-kan Otaru. Shikisai-kan in Kushiro is even smaller than half of the one in Obihiro, right? Kushiro is even smaller. There's a noticeable place called "Fukushi" in Kushiro, so they also sell local sake. My wife seems to be looking for something. She's spinning around quite a bit, but I'm worried about the time to go back. And she mutters, "Oh no..." so I ask, "What's wrong?" She heard that Fukushi's pound cake is there, but it seems they don't have it. I'm not interested in that kind of stuff, so my brain isn't working... Oh, is this sake? I picked it up absentmindedly... It's light... It says it's a baked confectionery? Is this it? Oh, this package is indeed confusing, huh? I'm not complaining... There are two types, but she doesn't seem to understand well. Then why not just buy both? That's what I think as a dad, but my wife went to ask. The lady kindly explains that one uses only egg whites and the other uses the whole egg. She's good at this, remembering all those details. The cake was made in collaboration with a confectionery store and Fukushi, using plenty of local sake. It's said to be more delicious when eaten cold. I, who continues to fail without reading instructions, didn't bother reading them. I didn't read the instructions even when I got married. When you cut the packaging, a scent comes out, my wife says it's the smell of sake, but I can't quite figure out the smell, and certainly not an attractive one. A bad smell? But once you taste it, you don't notice the smell anymore. There's a filling inside, right? It's moist, not too sweet, soft, and a pound cake. It was a properly delicious cake.

This is a confectionery shop located in a residential area in Kushiro, eastern Hokkaido. I first visited this shop because I bought a sake cake (Fukushi Mini) and wanted to try more. They offer sake cakes made with junmai sake and clear sake, each priced at 367 yen. The "Silver" type is made with junmai sake and egg yolk, while the "Gold" type is made with clear sake and egg white. Both cakes have a moist and fluffy texture, resembling castella. The "Silver" type has a rich flavor, while the "Gold" type has a refreshing aroma. I enjoyed these cakes as a snack at the Kushiro Marsh, where a butterfly landed on them. They also offer dumplings for 95 yen each, with flavors like matcha, red bean paste, soy sauce, coarse red bean paste, and cherry blossom paste. The texture is soft and slightly flat, with a moderate level of sweetness. The plum paste tasted like plum jam. I also tried the Kushiro cheesecake for 160 yen, which had a nice cheese flavor and moist texture. The shop has a variety of local specialties, and the staff provided friendly service typical of a local confectionery shop. Overall, it was a pleasant experience. Next time, I might try a full-size "sake cake" instead of the mini version. Enjoy your meal!

At a crossroads with a traffic signal in Nakajima, there was a shop called "Nakajima" that mainly sold traditional Japanese sweets. In the vicinity, there was also a Fujiiya store, a hospital, a supermarket called "Fukuhara," and a soba restaurant called "Takechan," resulting in decent traffic flow. Parking was a challenge. I bought some dango, specifically the skewered dango with plum, sesame, and sweet red bean paste. I enjoyed them at home, and even though some time had passed, the rice cakes and fillings were still soft and moist, stretching well. A skewer came with 4 pieces and cost 95 yen. The daifuku was priced at 126 yen each. The pumpkin manju had a strong pumpkin flavor that was very delicious. The skewered dango with plum paste had a nice balance of acidity and sweetness, complemented by the plum flavor, making it very tasty.

"Among the snacks sold at the kiosk, the recommended one is the 'Local Sake Cake Fukushi' made with sake from Fukushi, a sake brewery in Kushiro. It is a cake that uses plenty of local sake. There are two types available, one made with sake and the other with pure rice sake. I prefer the pure rice sake one. It is moist and tastes like a cheesecake. The scent of sake is subtle. On this day, I also bought a cake made with honey, which is only available at the main store. It is moist and sweeter than regular castella, giving a nostalgic feeling. Children would probably enjoy it."

Local sake cake is a cake sprayed with local Fukushi sake, giving it a subtle sake aroma. It feels more like castella than cake, soft and just the right amount of sweetness. There are two types available, seishu and junmai-shu, with junmai-shu being white in color and less sweet. When it comes to enjoying sweets, seishu has a stronger sweetness, which I personally prefer. Both are delicious, but the downside is the high price. The size is about 10 cm in length and 3 cm in width, costing around 350 yen. If it were 100 yen cheaper, I would favor it as a regular treat. The cakes can be found at Nakajima Urami store, Nakazon store, AEON Katsuragi, Showa, and MOO. They may also be available elsewhere, but I am not aware of it.

When it gets hot, the symptoms worsen, it is a designated rare disease by the government. Unfortunately, there is no medicine that suits me yet. I will update the review while considering my condition. Likes and comments may be delayed, so thank you in advance. [September 2019] Hokkaido Dosanko Plaza is an antenna shop for Hokkaido. It is operated by the Hokkaido Trade and Industry Promotion Association. The first store is located in Tokyo Yurakucho in the Tokyo Traffic Hall. (The backyard of Tokyo Traffic Hall is quite narrow) There are standard products, but also special products and specialties from Hokkaido are sold at events for one week at a time. Initially, the Tokyo store was operated by the Hokkaido Trade and Industry Promotion Association itself. As the operation became busy, the operation was outsourced to Marui Imai Department Store. Due to the integration of Marui Imai and Mitsukoshi Sapporo Store, the store outside Hokkaido continues to be operated by Hokkaido Marui Mitsukoshi. The Sapporo store is still operated by the Hokkaido Trade and Industry Promotion Association itself. Various companies and organizations such as general companies, chambers of commerce, and municipalities such as Sapporo City and Hakodate City can register with the Hokkaido Trade and Industry Promotion Association. Through various routes, products from Hokkaido are sold. There is a wide variety of products such as sweets, seafood, and various craft items, not limited to food. You can sell famous and specialty products from various regions of Hokkaido. If you want to exhibit at a Hokkaido product exhibition outside Hokkaido, it is easier to exhibit if you join the Hokkaido Trade and Industry Promotion Association. Some department stores may require you to go through the Hokkaido Trade and Industry Promotion Association to exhibit. In addition, the Hokkaido Trade and Industry Promotion Association holds a large trade fair at a hotel once a year around June. Member companies can have a booth at that time. This large trade fair is well known nationwide, and many store managers and buyers from various department stores attend. In recent years, major supermarkets and powerful companies in local areas also attend. You don't have to go to each store nationwide from Hokkaido, as they will come to you in one place, making it a very helpful trade fair. After the last day of the large trade fair, there is a standing party hosted by the Governor of Hokkaido. (Personally, I don't remember the governor attending every year, and I think I only saw the governor's representative) This standing party is also a direct sales opportunity between top executives without the involvement of the sales representatives. There is no membership fee for joining the Hokkaido Trade and Industry Promotion Association, and the annual fee is 10,000 yen per unit for three or more units. It is convenient and inexpensive for companies wishing to exhibit at product exhibitions. At least you can exhibit on a rotation basis at Dosanko Plaza. I visited the confectionery section at Hokkaido Dosanko Plaza Sapporo store. I noticed two types of "Jizake Cake Fukushi Mini" from Kushiro City's "Kushiro Confectionery Nakajima". ■ Jizake Cake Fukushi Mini Junmai Sake ★ 4.1 A tie-up product with the only sake brewery in Kushiro City, Fukushi Sake Brewery. Slightly strong sake aroma White color with a hint of yellow (using egg white). Moist, fluffy cake texture with a taste similar to cheesecake. The outer color of the inner packaging is gold. Price 380 yen (tax included) ■ Jizake Cake Fukushi Mini Junmai Sake ★ 3.7 A tie-up product with the only sake brewery in Kushiro City, Fukushi Sake Brewery. Slight hint of sake aroma Beautiful yellow color (using chicken eggs). Light and fluffy cake sponge cake-like taste. The outer color of the inner packaging is silver. Price 380 yen (tax included) There are two types of "Jizake Cake Fukushi", with different ingredients and sake flavors. It is designed to be enjoyed even by those who are not good at sake. Personally, I definitely prefer "Jizake Cake Fukushi Mini Junmai Sake". The good aroma of sake goes well with black coffee. "Jizake Cake Fukushi Mini Junmai Sake" is rated ★ 4.1. "Jizake Cake Fukushi Mini Junmai Sake" is rated ★ 3.6. Overall, it is rated ★ 3.9.
