Today, I would like to introduce you to Unagi Chazuke. This is my first time hearing about Unagi Chazuke. "Unagi Tok" is an eel cuisine restaurant based in Hamamatsu, Shizuoka Prefecture. They have branches in Tokyo, such as Nishi-Azabu, Ginza, Shibuya, as well as in Kyoto, Osaka, and other locations. I visited the Osaka branch this time, located on the 10th floor of Lucua Ile. I ordered their specialty, Unagi Chazuke. It is a dish where eel and rice in an oshibako can be enjoyed in three different ways, not as hitsumabushi, but as Unagi Chazuke. I placed my order and waited for it to be ready, sipping on hot tea in the meantime. The signature Unagi Chazuke comes in different levels - regular, upper, pine, and special upper. I chose the upper level, which comes with liver suction, pickles, and a small side dish. Opening the lid of the oshibako is a delightful moment, as a lovely aroma fills the air. First, I enjoyed it as it is, like an eel bowl. For the second serving, I added condiments - wasabi and white leeks. The sharp spiciness of wasabi harmonizes well with the eel sauce, giving the dish a nice kick. For the third serving, I added condiments, poured broth over it, and enjoyed it like Chazuke. It was a bit challenging as I encountered eel bones towards the end, getting stuck between my teeth, but it was delicious nonetheless. Thank you for the meal.
