I always thought that the best ekiben (train station bento) at Hakata Station was the Kashiwa Bento from Higashi Chikuken. However, this time I decided to be adventurous. After researching beforehand, I chose the "Mentaiko Nori Bento with Genkai-sourced Mackerel Mentaiko" from Chikaei Tea House. After all, it is a famous store in Hakata. I also bought a beer and boarded the Shinkansen. Let's dig in. Hmm, it has a subtle and elegant taste. However, it lacks the punch that would go well with beer. Well, it makes sense. It was too elegant for a common guy like me.

When it comes to Fukuoka, Chikaei is a high-end restaurant known for its exquisite flavors. You can easily enjoy their taste through their take-out bento boxes. The gentle seasoning and well-balanced menu reflect the essence of Hakata. A visit to Ichibangai Street is a must for anyone exploring Fukuoka.

Enjoy the taste of a traditional Japanese restaurant easily. At Hakata Station, a new shop called "Chikaei Saryo" has opened on the Chikushi exit side of the station, in the Ippin Street. They offer delicious bento boxes and side dishes such as an assortment of appetizers for 870 yen, roast beef, teriyaki chicken, and grilled salmon in Kyoto-style. It's rare to find an "aradaki" dish being served here, but it's priced reasonably at 650 yen. It's not really meant to be eaten on the train, but it's still a good deal.

I always wanted to go to Chikaei but never had the time. Luckily, I found it when I was feeling a little hungry. For me, Chikaei is all about squid and mentaiko! So, I bought a mentaiko onigiri. The mentaiko and shiso leaf go well together. There is a lot of mentaiko in it! Next time, I want to try other bento boxes too. It was delicious. Thank you for the meal. I will buy it again!

I bought mentaiko for breakfast and it was very delicious. I will definitely buy it again! However, depending on the time of day, it may be sold out. When I passed by Ichibin Street, all the shops, regardless of the store, had empty lunch boxes and side dishes, so I was lucky to find this place this time. There was shiso leaves laid under the mentaiko, and the onigiri was surprisingly heavy and dense. The receipt had a stylish drawing of a crane and turtle from the shop, which was very fashionable. It was so stylish that I wanted to keep it.

I bought a mentaiko seaweed bento here to take on the shinkansen in the morning. As expected, it was a bento from Chikaei. Although the mentaiko is not raw, it includes horse mackerel, crispy fish cake, slightly sweet rolled omelette, lotus root, takana (leaf mustard), black beans, and more. It's a seaweed bento for adults. It was delicious. Thank you for the meal!

■ Overall review
This shop is located on the Ichibun Street near Hakata Station, and it offers a variety of everyday dishes rather than traditional station bento boxes. It seems to specialize in takeout from a high-end restaurant. I haven't been to the main restaurant, but...
■ Mentaiko and Nori Bento
When you hear "nori bento," you might think of something cheap, but this one features fresh horse mackerel as the main ingredient. It is elegant and delicious, although it is priced at almost 1000 yen, so it's a bit on the expensive side. Thank you for the meal.

I was looking forward to visiting my favorite restaurant, Masauei, at Hakata Station, and was excited that I could buy their food there. I had researched in advance that they sell their delicious mackerel sushi on Mondays, so as soon as I arrived in Hakata, I planned to make a reservation. However, to my disappointment, I found out that they had sold out the day before and there was no new stock available. I ended up reserving a bento for the next day and took it with me on my business trip. The next day, I picked up the bento and had it for dinner at home. As a person from Kansai, I found the grilled mackerel a bit too thin, but the amount of rice, the taste of the rice, and the seasoning of the side dishes were all very delicious. I would love to eat it again next time. Thank you for the meal.

I saw that Chikae's bento shop opened in Ippin Street inside Hakata Station, so I decided to try it out. I love nori bentos, so I was torn between the Mentaiko Nori Bento and the Colorful Mentaiko Bento. In the end, I chose the Colorful Mentaiko Bento because it looked more visually appealing. It had elegantly seasoned simmered dishes, plenty of karaage (fried chicken), and lots of mentaiko, which made me happy. I also saw a Mentaiko Shime Saba (pickled mackerel with mentaiko) dish that looked really delicious, so I'll try it next time. They accept electronic payments.

This is a bento and side dish shop located on Ippin Street at Hakata Station. Here, you can easily take out the taste of the Fukuoka ryotei "Chikaei". The shop offers bento boxes using Chikaei's mentaiko (spicy cod roe). I tried taking out one bento box and one sandwich. The most popular item was the Mentaiko Nori Bento for 980 yen. It is a nori bento box featuring Genkai natural red sea bream marinated in mentaiko dashi, topped with mentaiko seaweed tsukudani, salmon mentaiko, and mentaiko pickled vegetables. The Mentaiko Tamago Sandwich for 870 yen consists of a large mentaiko tamagoyaki sandwiched between soft bread. The shop is located on Ippin Street at Hakata Station. Opened on 2/1 on the Ichibin Street in Hakata Station. The other day, a similar Japanese restaurant opened on the opposite side as well. While some menu items overlap, this place seems to focus more on Japanese cuisine with Fukuoka fish, mentaiko, simmered dishes, and minced meat. Everything looks delicious and the presentation is beautiful. It was quite a dilemma to decide what to buy. The most popular item is the Spicy Mentaiko Bento for ¥980, with a lovely decoration of mentaiko. The second popular item is the Three-color Bento for ¥980, with a beautiful mix of colors (mentaiko, egg, minced meat). I decided to go for the delicious-looking Nori Bento with fish, as there were two options (fish and chicken). [Purchased items] - Mentaiko Nori Bento ¥980 (made with Genkai-produced fresh horse mackerel mentaiko) - Mentaiko Dashi Roll Sandwich ¥870 - Ara-dzukuri (simmered fish scraps) ¥600 (yellowtail) Each ingredient on top was delicious! The thickly sliced horse mackerel mentaiko was flavorful and satisfying. The kinpira burdock and salmon mentaiko had just the right amount of flavor. Even if someone from another prefecture buys these, they can confidently say that Fukuoka's flavors are delicious, right? The cold dashi roll egg had a wonderful dashi flavor that oozed out, which was impressive. Especially the juicy dashi roll in the middle was outstanding. The ara-dzukuri was also thoughtful with the sauce on the side, and the flavor was rich yet sweet, perfect for drinking. Thank you for the delicious meal. Truly the work of a long-established traditional restaurant.

Whenever I go to Hakata, I always make sure to stop by the shop of Gakaei. This time, I purchased a set of assorted side dishes for dinner. Each dish was carefully cooked and the seasoning was truly impressive, showcasing the unique flavors of a traditional Japanese restaurant. It was a satisfying experience. Thank you for the delicious meal.

The luxurious seaweed bento box has an elegant overall seasoning, and it tastes delicious even when cold. The rice is just the right firmness with a good stickiness and texture, and the combination of mentaiko and salmon mixed with seaweed is even more delicious. The sweet tamagoyaki at the end is a superb dessert. The beer goes down smoothly, and I left feeling 90% satisfied.
