I had it at a friend's house. The monaka and the red bean paste were both amazing.

"Hakata Suzunoya," with its main store located in Arita, Sawara-ku, offers a passionate karinto snack called "Age Man." It has been featured on TV and caught my attention with its cute wrapping design. I tried the red bean flavor this time. The thin outer dough made with brown sugar and fried in rice oil was very crispy. The filling inside was packed and not too sweet, making it delicious. The combination of the crispy outer texture and moist filling was excellent. However, the oil... even though I placed a paper underneath, the oil kept seeping through. Maybe some kitchen paper is needed? Even one piece has a substantial volume! They also offer "Sweet Potato An" and "Yuzu Sweet Potato An."

It is a shop located in the basement of Iwataya, which I have liked for a long time. I was happy to see it open there. I have been back many times already. The karinto manju is really delicious. The crispy texture is so good. I love the sweetness of the brown sugar. Of course, you can buy just one piece. The staff is also very friendly, which left a good impression.

I went to Iwataya and discovered a new shop called Suzunoya, a specialty store for karinto manju. They are made with red beans, brown sugar, and rice oil, all domestically produced. They emphasize being additive-free, but I wonder what exactly is additive-free? Maybe no artificial flavors, colors, or preservatives? Oh, when I checked the ingredients list, it mentioned the use of artificial flavors. Red bean paste is 137 yen, sweet potato paste is 158 yen, and yuzu paste is 158 yen. I bought sweet potato and yuzu paste. The sweet potato paste has a subtle sweet potato flavor and seems to be popular among women. Personally, I prefer the yuzu paste. The crispy texture of the karinto, the yuzu peel inside, and the delicious paste go well with green tea - it's delicious! When the karinto gets soft, you can bake it in a toaster oven to make it crispy again. The only downside is the high calorie content - it's high compared to cakes, but what can you do? If you're conscious of calories, you might not be able to eat two or three at a time.
