During my New Year's shopping, I visited the Tanka Market after a long time. It was bustling with activity! There are many stylish shops now, making markets in any area more enjoyable with a mix of traditional and modern stores. I came across this pudding that I had received as a gift before and was surprised to find it here. So I bought it on my way back from shopping. Apart from the cheese manju, they also had lemon cheese manju. I decided to try the latter. The taste journey started with the flavor of wheat flour, followed by sweetness, then the tangy lemon flavor and aroma. By the time the flavors mixed in my mouth, it was absolutely delicious! The pudding came in a cute container with various flavors, but this time I opted for the basic cream one, which was just as good as the one I had before. My husband loves cheese manju, so I bought it for him, but I couldn't taste it myself. I would like to visit the Tanka Market again during regular hours, not just before New Year's, to explore it leisurely.

This shop sells snacks made with locally sourced ingredients, prioritizing those from within the prefecture, Kyushu, and Japan. They do not use unnecessary additives or preservatives, ensuring safe and simple flavors. You can also purchase their treats online from anywhere in the country. The caramel piglet was adorable, and the milk aroma upon opening the lid of the pudding left a perfect first impression. The smooth texture that melts in your mouth was addictive. Be sure to ask about the shop's dedication to quality, as they have a founding story behind it. Lemon Cheese Manju at 210 yen. Cheese manju is not necessarily my favorite Miyazaki delicacy, but I eat it quite often. Today, while patrolling the Tanigami Market, I stumbled upon a sweets shop called "Aikodo Confectionery." They were selling cheese manju, and even a lemon flavored one. I bought two and they were delicious. There are many variations of cheese manju, but this one fits my taste. The lemon flavor is a nice touch. They also accept Suica.

I had a cheese manju for 180 yen and a lemon cheese manju for 210 yen. They were a bit small, so they felt a little expensive, but the crispy scone-like dough with chunks of cream cheese inside was very delicious. The cream cheese had a refined taste, not too sweet. The lemon cheese manju had a sweet and sour sugar coating with lemon peel on top. The combination of the cream cheese's tanginess and the lemon flavor was also very tasty.

Ogura Kita Ward, Kitakyushu City. A Western confectionery shop located in the Tanka Market. Discovered "Piggy Pudding" at the Black Saki Butcher's Curry BULL. Piggy Pudding comes in flavors like custard, rare cheese, Yame matcha, rum raisin, and more. Besides Piggy Pudding, they also have cheese manju, scones, rice flour cream puffs, and other interesting sweets. Tried Piggy Pudding at the Black Saki Butcher's Curry BULL, so bought a rice flour cream puff (260 yen). The rice flour cream puff has a chewier choux pastry than usual. The cream is incredibly delicious, not too sweet but rich. It has a strong milk flavor, which I really liked. The shop relocated within the Tanka Market, with the second floor undergoing renovations due to aging and fire damage. Thank you for the meal.

I visited the Aikodo Confectionery store, known for their additive-free delicious snacks and sweets. I decided to buy some treats for my cozy year-end stay-at-home time. While their cheese manju is popular, I ended up choosing the cream-filled rice flour choux cream and the red bean-filled fried bread, which looked delicious. There were so many other options to choose from, but I also considered bringing some back to Fukuoka. I enjoyed the choux cream on the bus - the cream was soft and the pastry was crispy and fragrant. The red bean-filled fried bread was enjoyed at home - the bread was crunchy and the red bean paste was moist and not too heavy. The combination of the bread and red bean paste was perfect!

Located 150 meters north of the west exit of the Tanka Station on the Kitakyushu Monorail, near the north entrance of the "Tanka Ichiba" market, is a bakery specializing in baked sweets that opened in 2013. The shop has a small and charming appearance right as you enter from the bustling shopping street. In the glass case at the storefront, you can find baked sweets along with bread. The freezer on the right side is filled with homemade puddings. I purchased the specialty of Tanka, the "Cheese Manju" and "Lemon Cheese Manju" made by Aozora-do. The Cheese Manju has a crispy cookie dough filled with plenty of cream cheese. The balance of the not-too-sweet cheese with the dough is excellent. The Lemon flavor is delicious with a refreshing taste. I am also curious about their "bread" and "donuts" at this bakery specializing in baked sweets.

This is a shop located near the fish market in the morning market area. They now have a wide variety of delicious items, but I purchased their original menu item, the cheese manju. A pack of 3 costs 500 yen. Despite their small size, they are packed with rich and delicious cheese. Eating them slowly, you will find that they are surprisingly filling. They are a Miyazaki specialty, and are definitely tastier than the cheese manju I have tried at other shops in Miyazaki. Although they are called manju, the texture is more like a scone. It has a Western-style twist to it. The packaging is also stylish, making it a perfect gift that will surely be appreciated.

Located right in the heart of Kokura Kita Ward in Kitakyushu City, the Tanka Market was visited at the request of my husband, who had seen it on a travel show. We stopped by this shop near the arcade entrance. After doing some research in magazines, we bought the pudding and cheese manju that we were looking for. The pudding came in a cute pig-shaped container and we poured milk into it like coffee creamer. The milk was light and the pudding was medium firmness, creating a nice texture when mixed together. The cheese manju was full of cheese flavor, perfect for cheese lovers. As we enjoyed the treats, we were reminded of the nostalgic Showa retro arcade street, feeling like we had traveled back in time.

One of the must-visit shops at the market. All the sweets here are delicious, but my favorite is the pudding. This time, I bought the usual strawberry milk pudding and tried rum raisin and matcha flavors. I also purchased cheese manju. The piglet pudding rum raisin had a rich rum raisin filling with a sauce that was quite strong in rum flavor, giving it an adult taste. The Yame matcha pudding had a creamy matcha milk filling with black honey sauce, which was also delicious. The cheese manju had a crispy outer shell with a simple filling of unsweetened cream cheese, which was very tasty. We enjoyed this as a snack with alcohol. Thank you for the meal.

After leaving Beck, I decided to stop by this bakery nearby that I had been eyeing. It's the third shop inside the Tanga Ichiba market in Kokura. The storefront, though different from the name, had a slightly trendy vibe, with only two salarymen customers. Their specialties are cheese manju and pork pudding. They offer a variety of gluten-free items such as cream puffs, chiffon cakes, donuts, roll cakes, as well as whole wheat and cream scones, soy milk gateau chocolat, madeleines, and steamed buns. They focus on using simple ingredients without additives for a safe and natural taste. I bought the lemon cheesecake, which had a refreshing citrusy flavor that enhanced the cheesecake. The cheesecake uses stone-ground whole wheat flour made from wheat grown in Fukuoka, a mix of wheat flour from the same region, and unrefined cane sugar from Miyazaki, resulting in a rich cheese flavor with a balanced sweetness that is appealing to men. I also wanted to try the pork pudding, but I had to give up as it would take too long to get back home. The display case was filled with many adorable piggy treats... until next time!

The "Piggy Pudding" at Aikodo has become a popular item. It is a new sensation pudding that can now be ordered online. Made from milk from the natural surroundings of Aso, delicious domestic eggs, and silky smooth pudding made from Okinawa and Amami brown sugar. Topped with Kagoshima-produced pure fresh cream instead of caramel, enhancing the original taste of the pudding even more. (Our pudding does not use caramel.) Please enjoy this new sensation pudding! The name suggests a rich pudding... When you taste it, you can feel the strong egg flavor. The pudding has a smooth and creamy texture. It is a gentle pudding that is not too sweet. The accompanying sauce is not caramel sauce but fresh cream. Since the fresh cream is not sweet, I decided to add a little bit, but the pudding tastes great even without it.

I fell in love with the pig on top of the custard pudding lid and bought it. The custard pudding had a rich eggy flavor and a firm texture, which I enjoyed. Unlike the usual caramel sauce, this one had a milk sauce which added a nice touch. It was a pleasant surprise to find a pudding that I really liked after a long time. The strawberry pudding was made with milk and had a delicious strawberry sauce that complemented the milky texture well. The sauce had a perfect balance of sweetness and acidity. Thank you for the meal.

When I last ate the sweet cheese manju from Aoto Kodo Confectionery, it was too sweet, so this time I came to buy just the regular cheese manju. The appearance of the store was crowded, but I managed to take a photo in between the gaps. I quickly took a bite... Mmm, delicious! The cheese not being too sweet is great. And it's cheap too! The punchline this time is that it's tasty, but it's a cake that's difficult to serve to customers. Wait, isn't it a cake after all?

In the evening, Urikire was not sold out, so various items were still available for purchase at this time. I tried the piglet pudding and cheese manju. The pudding was light and milky, while the cheese manju had a firm skin with a rich cheese filling that wasn't too sweet, making it a good snack to enjoy with alcohol.

While walking through Ogura Kitchen in Tanka Market, I came across a shop with a crowd gathered around it. Peeking into the showcase, I saw cute cheese buns, lemon cheese buns, and pig-shaped pudding. The pig-shaped pudding had cream in a pig-shaped container on top of the pudding. It was adorable. However, I had to pass on the pudding as I was on the go, so I bought the following items: 1. Cheese bun - 180 yen 2. Lemon cheese bun - 210 yen 3. Whole wheat scone with walnut and cinnamon - 200 yen I also got a souvenir set. Later at the airport, I opened it up and indulged. Surprisingly, the cheese buns were filled generously with cream cheese. The lemon flavor was delightful, but the bun was a bit dry. Having cheese or lemon instead of red bean paste was a nice touch, not cliché. The cost-performance ratio was excellent.

After leaving Moji Port Retro on the Kitakyushu tour, we drove to Kokura Station and took a drive around the station area. We decided to park near the Tanga Market and walk along the arcade towards the station. The market seemed to have expanded with a variety of shops, including oden and sake shops offering tastings, stores selling pickled vegetables, and more. Even though it was close to closing time, it was quite enjoyable. I couldn't resist trying the black pork bun, which was delicious with a flavorful filling and a soft, chewy skin. As we continued walking, we came across a confectionery shop called Aozora-do, where we bought their adorable pig-shaped pudding container and a freshly baked cheese bun. The cheese bun was incredibly tasty, with a crispy cookie-like crust, a perfect balance of sweetness, and a creamy cheese filling. It was a delightful treat. There were other tempting items like the market's famous cannoli, so I'll have to come back to explore further.

A market that remains in good condition, the Tansu Market in Kokura. We stumbled upon the "Aikodo Confectionery" shop after lunch and decided to stop by with the family. We have a habit of buying a lot when passing through this market, and this shop caught our attention with its unique atmosphere and display of sweets. We ordered the following: - Pig-shaped pudding (350 yen) The pudding had a pig shape with cream inside, and it was not the caramel type. It was delicious even without adding cream. Overall, it was a nice confectionery shop in the well-preserved Tansu Market. We look forward to trying more treats next time.

The cheese manju here is really delicious. The whole wheat dough is great, but the fresh cheese inside is easy to eat and very tasty. I have bought it a few times before, but this time I got it as a souvenir for my sisters. My sister, who often goes to Miyazaki, has a favorite shop there, so she didn't expect to find something as delicious in Kokura. She was very excited when she tried it for the first time! My niece also loved it, saying that if it's from here, then the scones and donuts must be delicious too! I have actually tried the donuts before, and they have a simple, natural taste that I liked. I also bought a plain scone later, but it was more like the American type, so it wasn't to my liking as I prefer the moist British ones. I also tried the rice flour choux cream, which had a different texture. Personally, I prefer the moist pastry, so I probably won't buy it again, but it's all about personal preference. I would like to try the pudding next. Of course, I will continue to buy the cheese manju until I get tired of it.
