I went to "Sanyo Shokudo" in Nagahama, Chuo-ku, Fukuoka City, Fukuoka Prefecture! Located just a few minutes' walk from Akasaka Station on the Fukuoka City Subway Airport Line, right next to Nagahama Fresh Fish Market. This restaurant is run by the seafood processing wholesale company Sanyo, known as the "Holy Land of Horse Mackerel Fry" (the largest horse mackerel catch in Japan). You can enjoy horse mackerel from Matsuura, Nagasaki Prefecture. The day I visited, despite being a weekday, there was a long line before opening. The restaurant only accepts cashless payments, so be aware. You order your meal at the ticket machine and then wait for your seat. They offer a choice between a Horse Mackerel Fry set meal and an all-you-can-eat Horse Mackerel Fry set meal. Of course, I tried the "Horse Mackerel Fry Challenge" (laughs). The amazing thing about Sanyo Shokudo is that you can have all-you-can-eat horse mackerel fry. The horse mackerel fry is fresh, freshly fried, with tartar sauce, and meets all the delicious conditions, so it's obvious that it's "delicious" (laughs). Each piece is a bit small but satisfying because the meat is firm. The rice is made from high-quality rice "Kinumusume" from Shimane Prefecture, but the cooking method leaves something to be desired, as it is a bit mushy in parts. The soup is a seafood soup with "ika shumai" (available for purchase from vending machines) inside. The ika shumai has a satisfying texture, and the flavorful soup was delicious. After finishing the horse mackerel, it's time to chant the spell (laughs), "4 more pieces please!" "Add more tartar sauce!" You can also add more tartar sauce. "Horse Mackerel Fry Challenge!" Although I said that, that's where it ends (laughs). The people around me chanted 1 or 2 more times. For seconds of rice, you need to purchase another ticket from the machine. It's a bit of a hassle, so I recommend buying the ticket in advance if you plan on having seconds. The salaryman next to me was using this advanced technique (laughs). Another amazing thing about Sanyo Shokudo is the "Ajitataki all-you-can-take" where you can help yourself to "Ajitataki" in a miso flavor that tastes like namero. It's really delicious!! There is no fishy smell at all, and it goes very well with rice. And it's free! This alone could keep the restaurant running at such a level (laughs). Depending on the day, they also offer "gomasaba," which is also great. For 1,100 yen, the quality was excellent, making it a high-cost performance for horse mackerel fry lovers, like a "heaven" of a restaurant! Horse mackerel fry, ajitataki, and a cold beer would make it perfect, but oh well (laughs). I would like to challenge it next time in perfect condition (laughs).
