[Otaru City, Hokkaido] On October 24, 2020 (Saturday), at the bar of Hotel Nord Otaru near the Otaru Canal. The location is... From JR Otaru Station, walk straight towards the sea on Ekimae Street, at the corner of the intersection facing the canal. It's a 9-minute walk from the station. No regular holidays. Hotel Nord is one of the closest accommodation facilities to the Otaru Canal tourist area. The unique stone exterior with a dome protruding from the top matches well with the warehouses lining the Otaru Canal. The rooftop dome is actually used as a bar. Take the elevator inside the building to the 7th floor. Upon opening the door, you'll find an impressive space dominated by black and red primary colors. By the way, "Duomo Rosso" means "red temple" in Italian. The seating includes a curved counter and a few tables along the windows. From these windows, you can enjoy the night view of the Otaru Canal. The BGM is classical music played at a powerful volume. As it is a hotel bar, the atmosphere is more about quietly relaxing rather than engaging in conversations with the bartender. Guests staying at Hotel Nord Otaru or the adjacent Hotel Sonia Otaru can enjoy a 10% discount on all menu items, which is definitely worth taking advantage of. Additionally, you can use the GoTo Travel regional coupon received at the front desk right away. The lineup of bottles on the back bar is limited, but the cocktail menu is extensive. Moreover, this bar offers a variety of food options. Particularly, their charcuterie (cured meats) selection is impressive. [Meat Dishes] Ezo deer simmered pate terrine, Hokkaido Cherry Valley duck terrine, Shari Akadon pork ham, Hokkaido pork pate de Campagne, foie gras and pork roulade [Cheese] Furano Wine Cheddar, Tokachi Washed, Kobayashi Ranch Gouda, Camembert, Blue, Homemade Smoke [Others] Hokkaido marinated sardines, Hokkaido smoked mackerel, Salmon flakes, Hokkaido chocolate -------------------------------------------------- ■ Duomo Rosso (¥1200, guest discount ¥1080) An original cocktail named after the bar. A drink made with grenadine and citrus juice, easy to drink. The base is probably vodka? Boldly garnished with roughly cut pink grapefruit and a cocktail cherry secured with two cocktail picks, resembling a cross, which connects to the aforementioned "red temple." -------------------------------------------------- ■ Zombie (¥1000, guest discount ¥900) Chosen by a companion. A standard cocktail not commonly seen in bars. A blend of rum, grenadine, pineapple, orange, and lemon. The standard recipe includes equal amounts of three types of rum (white, gold, dark). Sweet due to the syrup and juice, with a predominant refreshing pineapple flavor, but with three shots of rum, the alcohol content is quite high. -------------------------------------------------- Since we had enjoyed sushi and drinks at Ise Sushi earlier in the day, we didn't have room for food, but exploring the charcuterie from Hokkaido and its compatibility with whiskey and wine sounds intriguing. If you're staying at this hotel, be sure to stop by this bar.
