The Baumkuchen from Bunmeido available in Kanto region and the one from Kyushu are completely different! The one from Kyushu has a thoroughly adhered bottom layer of sugar coating. Not only that, the Bunmeido Baumkuchen available in Kanto region is too sweet. On the other hand, this Baumkuchen is elegantly sweet, moist, and has a nice elasticity, making it the best. I was lucky that the individually wrapped ones were not purchased this time and the price was the same as buying in Kanto region.

When it rains, it's common for people to take shelter indoors. While seeking refuge from the rain, I stumbled upon an advertisement for Maindo's spring selection. Above the advertisement, I spotted my favorite treat - the "Sakura Mikasayama" dorayaki made with cherry blossom sweet bean paste! I placed an order for just one, and the staff kindly served me with a smile. The staff at Maindo are friendly and likeable. The dorayaki was wrapped in a stylish cherry blossom-colored package with a cherry blossom seal, making it a cute treat. The white bean paste had a hint of spring color and cherry blossom leaves, giving it a nice aroma. The moist dough, sweetened with honey, was delicious. The aroma of the bean paste and the sweetness of the dough balanced perfectly, spreading a fluffy taste in my mouth. It was so delicious, just as expected from a representative traditional Japanese sweet shop in Kyushu. Thank you for the meal! A few hours later, I ended up buying a large quantity for my company! When returning from Hakata to Osaka, I purchased some sweets. Although there are plenty of stores selling these in Western Japan, I decided to buy them here for some reason. The store has been around since 1900, which makes it a very old and established business. Bummeido is known for its castella cakes, made with Nanban eggs which are not commonly heard of. The castella has a golden color thanks to these unique eggs. I bought a set of three different cut castella cakes for 500 yen each, and since the price was reasonable, I bought two sets. When I got home, I tried the matcha and regular flavors, and they were delicious. The chocolate flavor was enjoyed by my children. I also bought some fruit yokan and monaka, and I tried the white peach yokan, which was rich and smooth, but a bit too sweet for my taste. Overall, these make great souvenirs and a variety of treats to enjoy.

Second revisit and additional review: - Castella Roll with Strawberry (110 yen): This is the strawberry version of the castella roll. When you open the package, the aroma of strawberries fills the air. The moist castella combined with the strawberry flavor spreads in your mouth. I really like this one. - Mikasayama (160 yen): This is what you would call a dorayaki. It may not be as moist as the castella, but the red bean filling was delicious. I visited the Bunmeido Main Store at Hakata Station Minegishi. Bunmeido is a name that brings back nostalgic memories from my childhood, as I have seen their castella commercial many times. They have a variety of products on display, with the classic being castella. I decided to try the Castella Roll and Kuchinashi Shiruko. - Castella Roll (110 yen): A moist castella rolled in dorayaki batter. The castella is moist and incredibly delicious. - Kuchinashi Shiruko (120 yen): Inside the mochi skin is powdered red bean paste. Just add hot water and you have a warm and comforting shiruko. Perfect for this season!
