I decided to wait and luckily, we were able to get a table quickly when the turnover was good. Instead of using meal tickets, they have a system where you order with a barcode or directly with the staff. The menu had options like a jumbo fried horse mackerel and curry, in addition to the standard 3-piece fried horse mackerel and all-you-can-eat options. I decided to go for the thick-cut jumbo fried horse mackerel. It took a bit longer to arrive compared to the 3-piece version. When it arrived, it made quite an impression. The horse mackerel fillet was thicker than the usual 3-piece version! Since it's fried as a half fillet, there's less batter compared to the 3-piece version, allowing you to enjoy the entire fillet in a more plump way. It's a bit pricey, but if you want to enjoy horse mackerel, the jumbo version is worth it, although it's limited in quantity. There was plenty of cabbage, and the squid shumai was delicious. The complimentary horse mackerel sashimi served with the rice was a nice touch. Before I knew it, the rice was gone, so I finished off the meal by making a tea-flavored rice bowl with the horse mackerel sashimi and squid shumai soup. It had been a while since I visited Sanyo Shokudo, but I was able to enjoy delicious horse mackerel. The restaurant is non-smoking, accepts cashless payments, has a place to store belongings, is clean, and allows you to see inside from outside. It's also welcoming for women. The store was full, but after waiting for about 5 minutes, I was fortunate to get a table. The clean white walls and white wooden tables created a sense of cleanliness. The menu prominently features an all-you-can-eat set meal, and when I tried to order the "Horse Mackerel Fry Set Meal," I was asked if I wanted the all-you-can-eat option. They mentioned that those who choose the all-you-can-eat option will be served 4 or more additional pieces. I decided to go with the "Horse Mackerel Fry Set Meal" without the all-you-can-eat option. The horse mackerel fry, processed and frozen immediately after being caught, was crispy and juicy. Even without additional pieces, the portion was satisfying. The light texture suggested that it was fried in clean oil. I ended up adding 4 more pieces, bringing the total to 8 pieces, and enjoyed them with soy sauce and ponzu for a refreshing taste. I ordered the basic horse mackerel fry set meal (950 yen including tax, credit cards accepted), which was served in about 7-8 minutes. The horse mackerel fry was crispy and had a decent thickness, making it delicious. There is dressing on the shredded cabbage. There are various other menu items available as well, such as Pork Boneless Yakisoba Ramen and Horse Mackerel Tataki Dumplings. In the evening, they also have izakaya-style menu items. I had the fried horse mackerel set meal for 950 yen, which came with 3 crispy and hot pieces of fried horse mackerel, rice, and soup with squid dumplings inside. There were soy sauce, ponzu sauce, and sauce on the table. The tartar sauce served with it wasn't really to my liking. The highlight was the horse mackerel sashimi. Discovered by chance on a business trip back. Just opened the day before my visit (6/8/2023), so I decided to go in without hesitation. Although they weren't offering all-you-can-eat fried horse mackerel during dinner time, they did have a fried horse mackerel set meal, which I ordered. The fried horse mackerel was crispy on the outside and moist on the inside, very delicious. In addition to the tartar sauce that came with it, there were also sauces and soy sauce on the table, so I could enjoy changing the flavor while eating. Next time, I'll aim for lunchtime and indulge in the all-you-can-eat fried horse mackerel!
