It's my day off today. Yesterday, I had a disappointing mackerel simmered dish in Fukuoka (considering the price), so this time I'm trying a highly rated fish restaurant in Kurume. The restaurant is called "Gyosei" and it is located along the prefectural road leading from Kurume to Yanagawa, known as the Yanaken Line. It's around halfway between Tsufuku and Yasutake. I knew the location of the restaurant beforehand, but the narrow parking lot in front of it made me skip it. However, this time I decided to visit. I arrived at 11:25 am and there were three parking spaces in front of the restaurant. Luckily, I managed to park by backing into a spot due to a momentary decrease in passing cars. While parking, I could see people entering the restaurant through the mirror. When I entered the restaurant, I was informed that they were opening in 5 minutes and asked to wait in my car. While waiting in front of the restaurant for the opening, I found a sign indicating additional parking spaces on the north side, but it might be difficult to find if you're not aware of it. More cars kept arriving as I waited. It's a super popular restaurant! The restaurant opened right on time. Priority was given to customers with reservations, and there were quite a few despite it being a weekday. After the reservations were taken care of, I informed them that I was visiting alone and was seated at the counter right by the entrance. I ordered the "Gyosei set meal (1,100 yen, excluding tax)" from the lunch menu. For the main fish dish, I could choose between simmered fish or fried fish. When I asked for more details, I was told that today's options were "simmered sea bream" or "fried mackerel". First, a tray with three small side dishes and three types of sashimi was served. The side dishes included simmered burdock, lotus root, and shiitake mushrooms, mozuku topped with sea bream milt, and tempura of yellowtail? All of them were of a quality that could pass as individual dishes in a small restaurant. With the sashimi included, I felt like I would be happy with a warm sake. It's a shame I came by car. Then the main dishes, "simmered sea bream" and "rice and miso soup," arrived. The volume was too much to fit on the tray from earlier, so they placed it next to me. The counter seats five, but considering the size of the people sitting and the volume of the dishes served, four people would be the limit. There were also customers waiting, but I appreciated the restaurant's policy of not overcrowding. Thanks to this, I was able to enjoy my meal without feeling cramped. After confirming that I could only have one serving of rice but could get a refill, I started eating the "simmered sea bream." It was a large sea bream with plump flesh and a sauce with just the right viscosity. It was delicious! I quickly finished my rice too. Then, for the first serving of rice, mentaiko was added as a topping. The miso soup contained large sea bream heads. Lastly, coffee and dessert were served. For the deliciousness, volume, and service, 1,210 yen was a great deal. I enjoyed it very much. Thank you for the meal.
