Located directly below Nankai Electric Railway Namba Station, not too far from Namba Station on various lines. This ramen shop is a long-established favorite in Osaka, located on the B2F of the main building of "Namba CITY," a large commercial facility operated by Nankai. Ramen Kotan is currently expanding its shops in underground shopping streets and large shopping centers in Osaka and Kobe. This Namba CITY shop is a long-established shop that has been popular since the opening of Namba CITY. While wandering around Namba CITY, unsure of where to have lunch, I stumbled upon this shop. Although I have frequented Ramen Kotan in the Abeno and Tennoji areas, I couldn't resist entering the shop as I was craving ramen. The interior of the shop consists of a counter seat facing the kitchen and table seats behind it, totaling 55 seats. Due to the impact of the infection, screens have been installed at the counter seats, slightly reducing the capacity. The ramen here is based on the soy sauce soup "Kotan Ramen" (600 yen excluding tax), with the option to change the soup to miso or salt (+20 yen excluding tax), and add variations with toppings such as seasoned egg, chashu, and gyoza. This time, I tried the "Special Kotan Ramen" (720 yen excluding tax) displayed on a separate sign. This includes the regular ramen with the famous "seasoned egg (half)" and simmered pork belly chashu added. It arrived about 3 minutes after ordering. I immediately tried the soup of the ramen. The soup made from chicken bones, pork bones, onions, carrots, etc., has a familiar taste. The sweetness of the vegetables is strong, and the aroma of the soy sauce seasoning enhances the flavor. Additionally, a considerable amount of collagen is extracted, so even though the soup looks thin, it leaves your mouth feeling sticky. Perhaps the popularity among women is due to this collagen. The noodles are medium-thick straight noodles with a slippery and chewy texture that pairs well with the soup. The chashu consists of two thick slices of simmered pork belly, with a richer meat flavor than the usual thinly sliced pork shoulder. The seasoned egg is well-flavored and fragrant. The shredded carrots on top add a nice touch, typical of Kotan. While new and ambitious ramen shops are popping up one after another in Osaka, "Ramen Kotan" offers a stable and traditional taste. This sense of reliability may be the reason for its enduring popularity.
