I often drive by this place, but I never thought about going for lunch until now. The rice and tartar sauce were all-you-can-eat and very satisfying. The chicken nanban was tender and crispy, with just the right amount of tartar sauce that was creamy and delicious. I found a new restaurant that I want to go back to!

I had lunch. I was torn between choosing the specialty Black Vinegar Chicken Nanban or the Black Wagyu, but I decided to go with the combo "Black Vinegar Chicken Nanban + Black Wagyu (180g) set meal" from the convenience store! You can have unlimited rice refills, so you can eat until you're satisfied. The meat was tender and very delicious.

I chose my favorite menu at the vending machine and purchased a healthy set meal with mixed grain rice and chicken nanban! The soup was curry flavored! The meat was tender and the black vinegar sauce was delicious. The tartar sauce was full of eggs and very satisfying! The pudding was also delicious! My husband's set meal had plenty of vegetables and looked delicious too! I would like to come back when I crave chicken nanban again!

Located at 2-3-11 Kuchinami Nishi, Kokuraminami-ku, Kitakyushu City, Fukuoka Prefecture, Takamotoya Kokura Higashi specializes in Kurozu Chicken Nanban. The portion size is quite large, around 200 grams or maybe even more. Unlike typical Chicken Nanban, the batter here is very thick and crispy. Even when coated with the sauce or tartar, the batter remains crispy until the end. The chicken is well seasoned with garlic and the tartar sauce is mild in flavor, letting the chicken shine. It's like a teriyaki egg sandwich. Rice, miso soup, and tartar sauce are all-you-can-eat. Be prepared for a full stomach due to the generous portion size.

Parking available. A set meal restaurant specializing in Chicken Nanban. Uses a ticket vending machine system. Menu includes Black Vinegar Chicken Nanban Set Meal, Black Wagyu Beef Tenshukaku Steak Set Meal, Black Vinegar Chicken Nanban + Black Wagyu Set Meal, Black Vinegar Chicken Nanban Bento, Black Vinegar Chicken Nanban only, Beer, Lemon Chu-Hai, etc. There may have been other menu items as well, but it was hard to see on the ticket vending machine. This time, I ordered the Black Vinegar Chicken Nanban Set Meal. The Chicken Nanban has a crispy coating. The tartar sauce is light. The taste is average.

Kumamoto-born Kumamoto black vinegar chicken nanban specialty store in Kokonoe Nishi, Kokuraminami-ku, Kitakyushu City. The chain has branches in Kumamoto, Oita, Fukuoka, and Saga, with the Kokura Higashi branch being the only one in Fukuoka. Menu items include black vinegar chicken nanban set meal, black wagyu beef castle steak set meal, black vinegar chicken nanban + black wagyu set meal, half & half set meal, crispy chicken set meal, and more. Takeout options include steak bento, black vinegar chicken nanban bento, colorful vegetable and chicken nanban, and special bento. Popular side dishes include fried chicken, shumai, and pudding. This time, I ordered the black vinegar chicken nanban set meal (880 yen). The black vinegar chicken nanban set meal includes chicken nanban, rice, miso soup, cabbage, and tartar sauce. The taste is quite tangy with a crispy coating. The tartar sauce is a light and slightly sweet type with a hint of egg texture. The tartness of the black vinegar sauce pairs well with the light tartar sauce. The rice is firm. The miso soup didn't leave much of an impression. The cabbage is topped with sesame dressing. Personally, I like this type of chicken nanban, especially the coating. The ordering process involves purchasing food tickets. The ticket vending machine is a bit difficult to read. Thank you for the meal.

This shop seems to be a rare Chicken Nanban specialty store in Kitakyushu. It is the first store in Fukuoka Prefecture, from Kumamoto. The parking lot can accommodate a considerable number of cars as the store is located in a gourmet street-like area. Upon entering, there is a ticket machine for ordering. The menu includes not only Chicken Nanban but also black beef steak, among others. I ordered the recommended Black Vinegar Chicken Nanban set. The Chicken Nanban here uses black vinegar, which may be a matter of personal preference. I personally like the sour sauce on chicken dishes, so it was fine for me, but the acidity is stronger than usual, giving it a unique sour taste from the black vinegar. It seems to use chicken thigh meat, which is unusual for Chicken Nanban. The crispy texture of the batter is so crunchy that it could hurt the inside of your mouth. Perhaps they use rice flour? The tartar sauce (similar to egg salad filling), miso soup (not very strong in flavor, on the lighter side), and rice (just delicious) are all refillable (inform the staff). I would like to visit again if I have the chance.

Recently, I work in Kitakyushu City on weekdays. Since I work night shifts, I wanted to have dinner before work. Due to the state of emergency, restaurants tend to close relatively early. By the time I leave the business hotel to go to work, both restaurants are almost closed, but this day I had something to do and left the business hotel early. I remembered a restaurant that had closed before when I had come to the front of the store. That's this restaurant. It is a chicken nanban specialty store from Kumamoto. I decided to give it a try. I arrived at the store around 18:30. I was relieved to see that the store was open. I entered the store. There were no customers in the table and counter seats inside the store. I purchased a meal ticket at the ticket machine at the entrance and handed it to the staff. I prepared my own water and sat at the available counter seat. I waited for my order. This time, I chose the basic black vinegar chicken nanban set meal at this store. You can have unlimited rice, miso soup, and tartar sauce. It was brought to me in about 10 minutes. It was quite a generous portion. Following the "delicious way to eat" posted on the wall, I decided to eat. I tried a bite of the black vinegar chicken nanban as it is. It's delicious. The chicken nanban is crispy on the outside and the chicken inside is juicy and tender. The black vinegar has a mild acidity and is easy to eat. The tartar sauce has a lot of eggs and has a rich and smooth texture. It's more like an egg paste than a sauce. When you put tartar sauce on it, the taste becomes mellow. The miso soup contains mushrooms, onions, green onions, and is delicious. The cabbage is dressed. The rice keeps disappearing. I took a bowl to the refill station and had another bowl of rice. I ate it with great enthusiasm. I finished it in no time. It uses black vinegar, and it is evident that good ingredients are used for the tartar sauce and chicken nanban. It was a healthy set meal. Next time I visit, I might try the black beef Tenshukaku steak set meal. It was 800 yen this time. You can have refills, so I think it's reasonable. It was delicious. I will come again.

Specializing in Chicken Nanban, Takamotoya opened its first store in Kumamoto and in 2021, a second store in Kokura Higashi. Located in the Kuchinetsu Umaimon Market, it is recommended to go by car as there is parking available. The restaurant has counter seats, tables for two, and family seats. I ordered the most popular menu item: Black Vinegar Chicken Nanban Set. The chicken nanban is crispy and topped with a sweet and sour black vinegar sauce. It comes with tartar sauce, but personally, I might prefer it without. It was nice to be able to eat it in my own style. Rice, miso soup, and tartar sauce are refillable! This might be one of the best chicken nanban dishes I've ever had. I definitely want to go back again.

I visited a restaurant called "Kurozu Chicken Nanban Specialty Store Takamoto" located in Kuchinomi, Kokura Minami-ku, about a 10-minute drive from the Kyushu Expressway Kokura Higashi IC towards Kitakyushu Airport. I was drawn to the refreshing taste of black vinegar, so I chose this restaurant over a nearby fried chicken set meal place. I ordered the standard "Black Vinegar Chicken Nanban Set Meal" for 800 yen at the ticket vending machine next to the entrance. The meal arrived in about 10 minutes. There were instructions on how to eat the chicken nanban on the table, suggesting to first enjoy the taste as it is, then dip it in tartar sauce. The chicken nanban had a crispy coating, perhaps too much, or maybe the sweet black vinegar marinade was overpowering. Even with tartar sauce, the coating was still noticeable. The chicken was moist and sweet from the vinegar, but personally, I found it too greasy and got tired of it quickly. It is worth noting that you can get unlimited rice, miso soup, and tartar sauce refills here. However, I was already full. This seems to be a chain restaurant originating from Kumamoto, so maybe there are differences in cooking between branches. Overall, I wouldn't recommend it based on my personal taste preferences. Thank you for the meal.

I love Chicken Nanban, so I've been curious about this restaurant for a while. I finally got a chance to visit. There's a ticket machine at the entrance, and the prices are reasonable. It's nice that you can have unlimited rice, miso soup, and tartar sauce. The Black Vinegar Chicken Nanban didn't have a strong sauce flavor, and the batter was a bit thick, making it a little difficult for me to eat personally.

Tonight, I decided to try the black vinegar chicken nanban and black beef steak set meal at a new restaurant that opened this spring in Kusunomi, Kokura Minami-ku. This place used to be a tempura set meal restaurant (Kakashi -> Rento) before. They have a ticket vending machine at the entrance for prepayment. They are known for their unique way of serving the black vinegar chicken nanban, suggesting to first enjoy it without tartar sauce to savor the black vinegar flavor. The taste of the black vinegar is tangy with a hint of sweetness, and paired with the chicken nanban, it goes perfectly with the rice. Adding tartar sauce later balances out the tanginess of the black vinegar, creating a delicious combination. The beef steak was served in small cut slices, allowing me to enjoy it with two different sauces. Despite a few chewy parts, the meat also complemented the rice well. The combination of black vinegar chicken nanban and steak was so good that I ended up getting two extra servings of rice and miso soup (laughs). They offer free refills for rice, miso soup, and tartar sauce. The black vinegar chicken nanban was so delicious that I would definitely want to visit again and try the 300g black beef steak next time. They also have branches in Kumamoto, with 4 stores, and one store in Oita (although it's only in Nakatsu) and Fukuoka (although it's only here), so I might consider visiting Kumamoto too (laughs). Thank you for the meal!

I parked my car in the parking lot of Clover Cafe in Minami Ward and decided to have some pasta. I noticed that a new chicken nanban restaurant had opened in the former location of Tempura Restaurant Ren. This location has seen three different restaurants now, all serving fried food. The sign outside boasted about being No. 1 and offering free refills on three items. I changed my plans and decided to eat here instead. The menu only had two basic items: chicken nanban and steak. I ordered the chicken nanban set meal using the ticket machine for ordering and payment. The interior of the restaurant was similar to the time when Ren was there. The miso soup tasted a bit light with shimeji mushrooms as the ingredient. The side dish was shredded cabbage with slightly coarse cuts. The dressing was Japanese-style. The chicken nanban was quite large, with an appropriate amount of breading. The black vinegar seasoning was sharp and distinct, which I found a bit overwhelming after a while. I ended up getting heartburn after eating, so overall, it was an okay meal.

Today, I visited Takamotoya Kokura store, which had caught my attention for a while, as it is famous for its Black Vinegar Chicken Nanban set meal that opened on April 1st. It was just before 2:00 PM, so I was the only customer at that time. Upon entering the store, I was directed to the ticket machine by the staff. Being a first-timer, I purchased a ticket for the Black Vinegar Chicken Nanban set meal priced at 800 yen. I handed the ticket to the staff and took a seat at the counter. The interior of the store had been renovated since my last visit to Tempura Rent, and I was impressed by the clean and beautiful atmosphere. About 8 minutes later, the Black Vinegar Chicken Nanban set meal arrived. The Chicken Nanban had a satisfying volume and looked delicious. The store also had instructions on how to eat Chicken Nanban, so I tried it without the tartar sauce at first. The combination of the tangy black vinegar and the crispy fried chicken was delicious and the chicken was tender. I then tried it with the tartar sauce, and the acidity of the vinegar and the creamy egginess of the tartar sauce harmonized beautifully, making it even more delicious. It was a delight to find the top-ranked restaurant in the Yahoo review ranking in Kumamoto available in Kokura. The fact that you can have unlimited refills of rice, tartar sauce, and miso soup is also a nice touch. Satisfied with my meal, I left the store. Next time, I plan to challenge the Black Wagyu set meal. Thank you for the meal.

The store was clean and the staff were extremely polite. The portions were generous, and you could get refills on rice and tartar sauce, so I think it's great value for money. It was also nice that there was a free rice set for children.
