An old man went shopping at a nearby supermarket. The store he visited was Daily Canart Izumiya Tamatsukuri store. This supermarket is one he occasionally visits in the neighborhood. It's relatively cheap and has high-quality products, so he quite likes it. The old man usually goes to discount supermarkets, but he sometimes visits larger ones as well. When he goes to regular supermarkets after being used to not caring much about quality, the ordinary products there seem really high-quality to him. Well, he's frugal, so it can't be helped.
In supermarkets that are not discount stores, he sometimes comes across unusual ingredients. For example, this time he got his hands on something called Young Coconut. As a man who isn't very interested in traveling abroad, he has never eaten coconut before. It seemed rare, so he ended up buying it. It wasn't that expensive, just a few hundred yen, but it's quite hard to eat. Or rather, hard to drink. Coconut is like the fruit of a palm tree, right? You'd imagine it's really difficult to cut, right? This time it was labeled as Young, so I thought the fruit might be soft? But it wasn't particularly soft. It was a struggle to make a small hole to drink the juice. However, I managed to peel off the outer skin by force, then I stuck a straw in and sucked the coconut juice. It was probably the first time in my life drinking coconut juice. The sweetness was not as strong as I expected, and the refreshing taste was delicious.
I probably could have gotten coconut milk and other things, but peeling the fruit was such a hassle. This time, I just settled for the juice. But having tropical food or drinks at home is not bad. However, next time, I'll do a little more research before buying. There might have been an easier way to peel it. Well, if you have the chance, please try it out! It's delicious when chilled!
