I finally settled down at this nice Japanese lunch spot for just 1,100 yen, located right at the intersection of Hibiya Street and Route 2 in Shinbashi. Although it’s not widely known yet, it has already become popular among nearby office workers. The restaurant, called Shinuma Shoyu Shokudo, is directly operated by Shinuma Soy Sauce, which has been in business since the first year of the Genroku era. You can also find Shinuma products displayed and for sale inside the restaurant.
I had my eye on the "Shinuma Ban Oil Beef Sukiyaki Set" for 2,200 yen, but today’s daily special included "Beef Tendon Stew", so I decided to go with that instead. The daily special is priced at 1,100 yen. I was told that the rice portion is quite small, so I asked for a large serving, and as you can see, I definitely recommend going for the large size!
What’s wonderful about this place is that you can choose from homemade drinks, specifically their herbal craft sodas. On a hot day, most people opt for ginger ale, but I went for the hot ginger drink. The side dishes, while not large in quantity, are of high quality and delicious! The main dish, the beef tendon stew, was so good that I could have eaten three times as much—it was just a bit too little for me, haha. The miso soup was generous in portion and had an incredibly good flavor.
The seating consists of about nine counter seats and one table for four. The restaurant is quite popular, so it fills up quickly. The interior is bright, spacious, and comfortable. Right upon entering, there are six counter seats, and to the right, higher up, there's one table for four.
The lunch menu includes the following four options, all reasonably priced, which is why many people aim for the daily special:
- Shinuma Ban Oil Beef Sukiyaki Set (from Yamakawa's ribeye) - 2,200 yen
- Beef Menchi Katsu Set with Fresh Moromi - 1,800 yen
- Premium Soy Sauce Ginger Beef Set - 1,600 yen
- Daily Special Lunch - 1,100 yen
All options come with specially cultivated rice called "Fukumaru" (large serving at no extra charge) and locally sourced, fresh vegetable pickles, as well as the herbal craft soda (choices include cola, ginger ale, or hot ginger). It’s a spot for quality Japanese cuisine and a lovely lunch! Thank you for the meal!
Payment can be made with credit cards, transportation IC cards, ID, or QUICPay, but unfortunately, PayPay is not accepted. I paid with Suica. Next time, I’ll definitely go for the sukiyaki!
