The restaurant "ugo Neck of the Woods," which opened on December 3, 2023, in the former location of the popular "Fruit Club 818," is located on the fifth floor of a building. However, the elevator only goes to the fourth floor, so you have to take the stairs up. While there are signs for the restaurant on the ground floor and halfway up the stairs, the entrance looks very ordinary, resembling an apartment door rather than a dining establishment. You open a slightly rusty, unremarkable door and proceed down a long hallway to the dining area, where you find counter seats, tables, and sofa seating in a spacious layout with high ceilings. There's a rack displaying some clothing, which seems to be for sale.
Upon entering, there were two groups of customers—two men and one woman. A handsome staff member presented a QR code and said, "Here is the MENU," but orders are taken verbally. The menu includes "soft drinks," "shisha," and "alcohol," alongside a small selection of simple appetizers, two or three types of desserts, and sandwiches, fitting the theme of a "shisha bar & café." The sweet aroma of shisha wafts through the air.
I ordered a hot blend coffee (¥600), ginger ale (¥500), egg sandwich (¥650), and chocolate terrine. The drinks arrived about five minutes later, followed by the chocolate terrine and egg sandwich in another five minutes.
The coffee... appeared to be machine-brewed with medium roast beans, offering a refreshing light acidity that's easy to drink. However, the coffee was a bit weak for my taste, not strong enough to pair well with the chocolate desserts, although it might appeal more to a female audience.
The chocolate terrine... had a firm, rich texture similar to a gâteau au chocolat, served with lightly sweetened whipped cream. It was deliciously smooth, but it was a bit unfortunate that the coffee was on the milder side.
The egg sandwich... was packed with lettuce, grain mustard, mayonnaise, and a generous amount of egg salad, making it challenging to eat without spilling. The bread was dense, with a mix of nuts and sesame seeds, providing a tasty and aromatic twist—it was enjoyable and flavorful.
Young men might want to keep this hidden café in mind, as it could really impress. Thank you for the meal!
