I visited the restaurant based on the gourmet editor's article that caught my attention. I had the "Omakase B" set, which included a beef stew set meal. The miso soup with fish broth was comforting, the simmered vegetables were elegant and delicious, the eggplant miso had a perfect balance of sweetness and softness, the dried young sardines and spinach ohitashi was a great palate cleanser, and the fried vegetables with sweet potato, shiitake mushroom, pumpkin, broccoli, carrot, bell pepper, burdock root, and eggplant allowed me to enjoy the unique flavors of each vegetable. The beef stew was as delicious as the silver tower in Higashi Ginza, with a perfect balance of acidity and richness. I will definitely visit Toraya again for their meticulous and delicious dishes. Thank you for the wonderful meal.

I had the set meal (miso-marinated salmon, nikujaga) and it was delicious. The side dishes were like well-made home-cooked meals with a good balance of dashi and saltiness. It was a comforting meal that you can enjoy without feeling formal. The fried dish was rare and seasoned well, which paired nicely with the miso soup that had salmon scraps in it. The nikujaga with beef was flavorful and had a good texture with the vegetables. The miso-marinated salmon was also tasty. It was a delicious meal. Thank you.

I had today's lunch set meal. I had high expectations based on the reviews, but what came out was two small side dishes, one croquette (normal size, normal taste), rice, and miso soup. Honestly, I was surprised. This cost 840 yen (excluding tax) and it didn't fill me up, and the main croquette was just average. Maybe it's because of the location or the price in Maruyama, but it was a shocking experience. It's a shame because it's a nice-looking restaurant. Maybe it's my fault for trusting the reviews.

On a certain holiday, I found an old-established soba restaurant in the Maruyama area that I had passed by before. Next to the soba restaurant, there was a narrow staircase with a sign that said "Obanzai," so I searched on Tabelog and found a promising restaurant. I visited the place later. The second floor of the soba restaurant had a relaxed atmosphere with a counter and comfortable table seating with cushions. The background music was soothing piano classical that made me feel sleepy. On this day, I chose the "Chef's Choice C (tax included 1650 yen)" from the lunch menu, which included a choice of meat or fish. I decided to try the mackerel miso, and asked the kind lady owner for it. With the first bite, I found the mackerel miso to have a rich flavor without being too salty, with a subtle sweetness and bitterness that was exquisite. The fried vegetables in broth had a deliberate texture, including bell peppers, burdock, sweet potatoes, broccoli, pumpkin, celery, shiitake mushrooms, and eggplant. The crab dumplings were light and elegant, and I also enjoyed the pickled vegetables, miso soup with a hint of tofu, and the rice with firm grains. I was momentarily surprised by the additional tax added to the bill, but I enjoyed a delicious Japanese meal that I don't usually have. Thank you for the feast.

I went to Toraya-san! This is a place where you can eat delicious food. It's our favorite. My parents had a set meal with three fish dishes. I had everything shared with me by my parents, and I also added nikujaga. Everything was delicious, but my dad really liked the maguro poke. My mom gave high ratings to all the dishes. Actually, you must try the nikujaga here! It's a nikujaga, but the flavor is deep and the texture is different from home... it's very delicious.

On a weekday after 7pm, I visited the restaurant alone. There was one customer before me and no customers after me. I thought of sitting at the counter since I was alone, but was prompted to sit at a 2-person table due to a reservation. I remembered being told the same thing during a previous visit for lunch. The reservation customer did not show up during my 40-minute stay. The interior of the restaurant had a retro Showa era vibe, with a view of 24th Street outside the window, creating a charming atmosphere. However, the background music playing that day was by "Gipsy Kings," giving the place a very Latin feel. I started with a beer and ordered the "Chef's Choice Set C @ 1,940 yen," which allowed me to choose between miso-marinated mackerel and pork belly. I chose the mackerel. The set came with crab dumplings, fried vegetables, simmered tofu, pickles, rice, and miso soup. Ordering a beer with the set only cost an additional 200 yen, which was a good deal. The mackerel was smaller than expected but elegant, with a well-balanced saltiness and tender bones. The straightforward seasoning without any artificial additives was comforting. The fried vegetables were slightly too salty for my taste, and the sweet and savory balance was lacking. The simmered tofu had a gentle flavor and left a good impression. The miso soup lacked a bit of depth in flavor, but the saltiness was just right. I found the rice to be slightly softer this time compared to my previous experience of it being too hard during lunch. The most concerning aspect was the cost performance. The A set for 1,400 yen (choice of salted mackerel, horse mackerel fry, or chicken karaage, fried vegetables, small side dish), the B set for 1,620 yen (A set with an additional dish), and the C set for 1,940 yen (choice of miso-marinated mackerel or pork belly, fried vegetables, small side dish, crab dumplings) all had satisfactory contents and flavors, but I can't help but feel that a slightly lower price would make it more user-friendly. I have only used the set meals for lunch and dinner, so I plan to try using the restaurant for izakaya-style dining with a larger group next time.

Lunchtime visit. This day, we went out in the morning to look for squirrels. You never know when or where you'll encounter wild animals. Hokkaido is amazing! "Hey, Dad! We saw a lot of animals today, right?" "That's right. They came pretty close to us. It seems like acorns are the key!" Oh, I see! (Well, let's collect more acorns again next time) Oh no! It's already lunchtime! What should we do? Dad suggested, "You know, last time we visited a nearby soba restaurant called 'Hattenan' on our day off..." What is it? "There's a steep staircase to the left of the entrance that leads up to the second floor where there's a restaurant." Hmm. "There's a neon sign that says 'Toraya' on the exterior wall, and it seems like it's closely related to the 'Toraya' kaiseki restaurant." I see. Let's go check it out! So, we visited this restaurant. It's true! The staircase is steep just like Dad said! We climbed up the narrow staircase and entered the restaurant. Oh, no one's here... Dad found a staff member and confirmed that they were open. The staff said, "Please sit wherever you like." So, we sat at a table for four near the window, with Dad sitting next to me. It's a unique setup, right? Dad said, "Yes, it is. The menu is Japanese cuisine, but the interior is like a café. Interesting, right?" Yes, it is (^^) Now, what should we order? Since I can't read the menu, I asked Dad to help me. There are many options, but what should I choose... Dad asked, "TOMO-P, which one do you prefer, 'Mackerel Miso Stew' or 'Salmon Chan-chan Yaki'?" Hmm... I've had the mackerel stew before and I love it, but I'm curious about the 'Chan-chan Yaki'! What kind of food is that? "It's a dish where miso-coated salmon and vegetables are grilled on a hot plate and mixed together when cooked. It's delicious!" That's it! I'll go with that! So, I ordered the 'Chef's Choice B' with an additional 'Green Bean and Sweet Potato Stew'. I can't wait! While waiting, Dad and I looked outside. It's like looking down from the second floor. Elegant, isn't it? Shortly after, my tea bowl and chopsticks arrived. It's amazing! They're real tea bowls! The chopsticks aren't disposable either! Dad said, "Surprising, right? Not many restaurants provide these kinds of items." That's true! Next, the 'Chef's Choice B' and 'Green Bean and Sweet Potato Stew' arrived. Dad said, "Oh? It's supposed to be 'Chan-chan Yaki,' but it's grilled salmon?" That's right. The 'Green Bean and Sweet Potato Stew' looks delicious with chunks of sweet potato and a nice color. Although it's grilled salmon, if it's related to 'Toraya,' there must be some special touch. First, let's put rice in TOMO-P's tea bowl. Yes! Dad transferred rice from his bowl and quickly shredded the salmon on top. Visually, it looks like a grilled salmon set meal. Dad checked! "Wow! This is the 'Chan-chan Yaki' salmon! And it's high-quality." I see. What do you mean? "You see, it's salmon marinated in miso and grilled to perfection. It's really delicious!" I'll try it too. First, I'll have some rice with chopsticks. This rice is delicious! Dad said, "Yes, it is. This cooking method is difficult for Dad." I see... Now, I'll try the fish. Wow! This is delicious! As Dad said, it's my first time trying miso-marinated salmon! It's so tasty! The other side dishes are all to my liking. The tomato salad has a dashi flavor and tastes great. The sweet potato, which I slightly cooled down as it was hot, how is it? According to Dad's check, "Just try it without saying anything." Oh! This is delicious. Dad's expression on behalf of me! "The outside has a strong seasoning, but the inside retains the flavor of the sweet potato, making it really delicious!" That's right! Dad said, "We should have ordered more dishes for the two of us." That's true. Oh? I realized! Dad's portion was almost gone... I'm sorry (;_・) "It's okay! It's okay! TOMO-P will"

I received an invitation to go to GEN, a Chinese restaurant, but since I am on a diet and looking for a healthy option, I chose a Japanese-style obanzai restaurant. I had the lunch set B, which included beef stew and ratatouille, for around 1260 yen. The food did not take too long to be served. The beef stew had plenty of meat, which I was happy about. The seasoning was just right, not too salty, and very delicious. The tofu was especially tasty. The use of seasonal vegetables and the home-cooked taste of the dishes were enjoyable. The variety of dishes may result in some pre-made or delayed serving, so it is important to understand and be patient. This restaurant may not be suitable for those in a hurry, but for those looking for a more relaxed dining experience.

I was impressed by the taste of the sister store of the main store Toraya and decided to visit this place. The restaurant is located near the subway, on the second floor of a soba shop, but if you're not careful, you might miss it. It is a reasonably priced restaurant. The set meals range from A to C, with the most expensive being the C set meal at 1570 yen. The A and B set meals allow you to choose between meat or fish. The B set meal (1260 yen) has one more side dish compared to the A set meal (1050 yen). On the day I visited, the A and B set meals offered horse mackerel fry or pork loin shiozuke. The C set meal (1570 yen) had options of simmered mackerel in miso or braised pork. The C set meal also came with crab shumai. The daily lunch set is priced at 840 yen or less, but it does not include the popular deep-fried vegetables. The portion sizes are slightly smaller overall. If you're considering the C set meal, the 2100 yen lunch at the main Toraya store might be a better deal. The service is a bit slow as it is run by only one person. The deep-fried vegetables are better at the main store. Many local housewives frequent this place. There is no parking lot, and nearby parking costs 400 yen for one hour, so adding that to the 1570 yen C set meal doesn't make it as cost-effective compared to the main Toraya store. Address: 25-cho, Odori Nishi, Chuo-ku, Sapporo Phone: 011-622-2622 Business hours: 11:30-14:30, 18:00-23:00 Closed on Tuesdays

It's a bit hard to find, but it's a restaurant that mainly serves set meals. You'll find it next to a soba shop, and you have to go up the stairs to the second floor. I've been there for lunch before, but the service wasn't very efficient as the person managing it was alone, so I didn't go back. The main branch is a Japanese restaurant, but my impression has changed quite a bit. When I ate at "Toraya," I remember the strong taste of dashi and vegetables, which I didn't feel much here. Come to think of it, I haven't been to the main branch in a while. Today, there were two other customers. I want to try different flavors, so I ordered the "Chef's Choice C" with fish, which had a wait time of 25 minutes. The pace seems slow for not having any fried food. The taste is average for the price, and it's better to compare it to a Japanese lunch bento. The rice was good, and the miso soup had a nice flavor. The simmered dish would have been appreciated if it tasted better. The mackerel miso was disappointing compared to before. The shumai didn't suit my taste at all. The simmered dish didn't meet my expectations. The miso soup was good, so maybe it was just a one-time thing. The okara was good, and the pickles were average. Considering it's a quirky shop with Enzan prices, it's appropriate. It's a bit disappointing in various aspects. Set Meal Chef's Choice C 1570 yen

I visited this restaurant based on recommendations from Tabelog. The entrance is a bit easy to miss, just as other users have mentioned. When I visited during lunchtime, the place was being run by a woman alone. The menu starts with the A set meal (\1050), and you can add more items with the B set meal (\1260) or C set meal (\1570) for an additional price. They also offer bread and a la carte dishes. You can choose between meat and fish for the set meal. That day, I had fried sardines and beef stew. The taste was different from home-cooked meals, with a unique flavor. You can really taste it in the miso soup. Depending on the menu of the day, there might be a bit of a wait if you order rice, soup, fried fish, and so on. The portion sizes are a bit small, so for someone like me who has a big appetite, it felt a bit lacking. I wish they would lower the price a bit or increase the portion size.

This restaurant is located on the second floor of a building about a 2-3 minute walk from Maruyama Koen Station. It's easy to miss if you're not paying attention, so be careful if you want to visit! When you climb the narrow steep stairs and pass through the curtain, you'll find a lovely traditional Japanese space. The interior has a warm and gentle feel with wood accents. It's surprising to find such a nice restaurant in this location! The menu seems to focus on a choice of fish or meat set lunches, so I ordered the "Chef's Choice Lunch (Fish)" for 1,260 yen. The fish that came out was a simmered fish called "Mebaru." It had a delicate flavor that paired well with the simmered sauce (I tried it for the first time). The deep-fried vegetables were delicious, capturing the essence of the vegetables' flavors. The other side dishes were also very elegantly seasoned. I would like to visit the main restaurant next time.

I wanted to eat regular Japanese food after eating out a lot, so I decided to try this place and it was a great choice! It was a night set meal restaurant. There were couples, office ladies coming after work, and salarymen dining alone. The food was delicious and I was able to get plenty of vegetables.

Last July, I went to "Obanzai Toraya" near Maruyama Park Station for lunch. The main store of Toraya is a famous Japanese restaurant known for its intricate vegetable and fish dishes. Today, I had the Croquette Lunch for 1050 yen. I enjoyed the Sukiyaki croquette, simmered vegetables, okara, and crab miso soup. Eating slowly in a calming atmosphere with healing music playing in the background made me feel relaxed.
